I was reading Evolutions last night, and was looking at the letter at the end of the book, which discusses what has happened over the past few months and what is happening at that current time (January 2553).
At the end of the letter, it states that the Forerunner structure located in Voi, which opened the portal to the Ark, is “still active, still drawing power from an unkown source and riddles with passageways and conduits that we have, as yet, minimal access to.”
When I read this, I immiediately thought that this may have a connection to Halo 4. The book was released in late 2009, during the point 343 was working on Halo 4. Why would they include that information in the book if they werent going to use it at a later date? - Maybe the Voi Structure can open a portal to Requiem? Or maybe it leads to the Librarian, who Chakas stated was alive and he knew where to find her at the end of Primordium.[ I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

The thing that I still wonder about the Portal, is whether or not someone or something could return through it, similar to the Tesseract from the Avengers. If so, humanity might have uncovered a very nasty backdoor to their homeworld during the potential threat of a Precursor/Flood/Promethean (?) invasion.

Yes you can return trough it. The arbiter did. But you need a key ship and now those are all destroyed

I think it might be important that this can be inferred as speculative. If there are other key ships or a return of the Forerunners, then this could prove to be a problem.

It is open to Speculation but that would leave us guessing because we don’t have enough info. For now i say when something goes wrong humanity can do what it’s best at and blow it up.

Exactly. And this will be what, the 4th or 5th Forerunner installation humanity has destoyed? lol

“No a very original plan but we know it will work”
I don’t think they can use it as a portal anymore, not unless they get another keyship and even then, now that the destination has been destroyed it may not work. I think the importance behind it is more that the humans can use it to study Forerunner tech and learn from it.

Considering how the Forerunner’s were greatly advanced technologically, don’t you think it would be odd if they could only make portals to specific places? I suppose it might have been made specifically to the ark, to reduce the chance of the flood reaching other space, but it seems rather foolish to make it go to one place only, even if it is to one of the only safe places left. So I think it could possibly lead to both arks, considering you can likely fire the rings at the second ark as well.

I think they could easily make portals go to a number of places but chose to limit them to one as a precaution. They have a parasitic life form sweeping across the galaxy, I’m guessing they’d want to limit its movements as much as possible. The last place they should link the Portal to is the other Ark. If the Flood found it they would potentially be able to reach both. No, I think they limited it to the one place.
sigh i really feel like i should say this on another forum first if not wait until i have worked out all the details to explain it better so somebody doesn’t steal the idea.
Bornstellar and I came to the thought that the Librarian might have slipped into the lower catacombs of the portal if not left to a different location despite what the terminals say if she herself is to be alive.
Way I look at it, regardless of how much we can get from the Portal, there are going to be some serious changes in Halo 4. We have access to not one, but two significant Forerunner locations if you count the Trevelyan Sphere. We know already that the Infinity it capable of teleporting ordnance through structures. I have a strong feeling that that is only the beginning of it…

I think you’re a little mixed up. The Infinity can’t teleport anything. It’s just the war games simulation that has ordnance teleporting in.
