Visual Vehicle Damage

I was playing a round of Firefight today, rolling around Prospect in my Corp Scorpion when at the start of the round I end up between two group of Hunters. I killed the four hunters but not with out taking damage to my tank.

I rolled around for the rest of round four and round five with my turret on fire and it made me think. Is this thing made out of wood? Tanks are mostly metal, so what could be burning for the better part of ten minuets that would not effect the performance of the turret? I could see wiring catching on fire, maybe a hydraulic leak but nothing that shouldn’t burn for that long with out a mechanical failure. Its 2530 something and they do not have a fire suppression system built in these things?

Now before everyone mashes the keyboard to respond I am not saying that damage should effect a vehicles performance or that there shouldn’t be a damage model for vehicles. All I am saying is that a damaged vehicle shouldn’t just belch flames endlessly because it has X% of damage.

It would be nice if there was more to the damage model and animations. Its cool to have pieces break away and have the flames at first but have them burn out, maybe have it smoke, or if you have a set period of time with out taking damage there should be an animation of something putting the fire out. Just a little detail that would make the experience more realistic.

What do you guys think? What other little details like this take away from a sense of realism that you would like to see improved in future games?

I miss being able to snipe people out of the tank

Also, it would be cool to be able to use a brute anti-vehicle weapon that can tear up the tracks on a scorpion, the wheel of a hog, etc. Make the function deteriorate in some way

i dont mind it really just a constant reminder of the fool hardy attempts on my life

That’s one thing I loved about Reach’s vehicles, especially the Scorpion Tank. Those things could get absolutely demolished, with tons of armor and pieces stripped off of the thing. Even the darn turret could get blown off the tank. Not necessarily fire coming of it (except maybe a small fire on the rear exhaust) but it could get torn to hell in the process.

But I think the details are fine right now, and while I’d love more immersion or in-depth detailing: A: I think there’s better things to spend the developer’s time on at the moment and B: I don’t know how much immersion they are aiming for at this moment with the ongoing weapon skin debate (which I dislike as far as ‘silly’ weapon skins go.) C: Fire provides a very distinct this tank is hurt notice for the driver, friendlies and enemies, which is valuable info to both sides.

hey for the covenant and prometheans attack me they must be suicidal

Not much for immersion in multiplayer play so I don’t think it really needs improved on, especially when there’s more important areas to work on. The point of the fire is just to let you know how much damage you’ve taken, goal achieved.

yeah i guess thats true. its hard to compete with titles like battlefield that already do that so well. halo should compete on different fronts smh

I want a health bar.

Nothings more irritating than thinking your fine and being 1 hit.
