Visual Noise in Halo 5

One thing that annoys me in a lot of modern shooters is what some might call “Visual Noise”. Visual Noise is when your view/HUD is obscured, whether it be from a bright light, lens flare, or as a result of taking damage. This is something that was present most recently in Halo 4 and Halo 2: Anniversary (it was also in the earlier games, like Halo:CE, but to a lesser extent). When playing multiplayer, I find that this is more detrimental than anything else, because when you’re taking damage from an enemy, and your screen is obscured by a bright light and a red hex pattern, it’s pretty hard to fight back or even run away (granted, I’m not very good at Halo).

I don’t know if 343i made this as a design choice, but this seems to be back in Halo 5: Guardians. All I ask is that we get an option to disable this distraction when the game launches. Unless this feature is tied to the HUD in a way where it can’t be removed.

Oh man, I love that stuff. It adds to the detail and immersion. It makes it feel like you’re really looking through a visor.

That said, keep in campaign. We don’t need that noise in arena.

I also like the Visual noise. It makes me feel like im really inside the suit of armor.

The biggest problem I had with it in the beta was the damn sun. I forget the name of the maps but the outdoors Forge maps had unbearable sun glare and a Spartan visor should be 100% completely immune to that crap.

Honestly I didnt even notice.

ikr at times during the beta I got killed cause of the distraction of the sun glaring into my visor espesically on Orion map the Pegasus wasn’t too bad with it both forge maps looked great overall

Orion! That was it. Picking up the sniper and facing toward the rest of the map resulted in instant blindness. So stupid.

Visual Noise has a great place in Campaign but does not deserve a place in Multiplayer. It is more annoying in multiplayer rather than cool.

Haven’t really noticed it outside of lens flare from scopes.

In Halo 2 however your entire screen would flash red and blind you, and that’s just terrible design.

Cant say I really noticed it myself.

Tired and true Military tactic. Attack the enemy with the sun at your back. Why Dawn attacks are so effective.

You civies will never learn

Alright. If you want to know, there really isn’t any actual ‘noise’, it’s just an expression because all the blinding visual effects results in an experience that would be like having 5,000 trumpets blasting in your ears. These effects are distractions. “Noise”.
