I got Halo 2 for Vista on Friday, and I’m really got at Combat evolved, but I can’t seem to hit anything on Halo 2. I feel like such a noob.
But that’s not the main problem. I keep trying to talk during multiplayer matches, I hit the button (Yes, it’s the right one), and I can’t type anything, nor can I see anyone else’s messages.
Also, how do you do a 3rd person perspective, as done in machinimas? Like this.

That’s not third person. Third person is over the shoulder. That’s a player who has picked up the Blind skull then went to multiplayer. I think it’s good how they improvise, and ridiculous how you can’t deduce that.
For the text chat- I had that at first, but it turned out my content settings were disabling the chat. You’ll need to either modify your settings at halo.xbox.com, or press Home in-game and select settings (not sure if the appropriate options are available with the second option…actually, they might be available when you press Home, then click on the “tile” displaying your profile).
For the missing- practice! 
If you’re not using a controller, don’t forget the (IMO overpowered) aim assist is turned off. Also, check your sensitivity settings, and try to aim a little ahead, particularly with the sniper rifle or beam rifle.
