visible to you only......

does not mean that there is no ranking system. the whole point of a ranking system is match people according to skill, not be used as a tool too insult others. 343 knows they cant stop trash talk, but they are not going to encourage it.

edit: though i would want visible ranks to return, i can understand the reason for invis ranks

A rank that is visible only to you is one of the most pathetic things I have ever seen, all because some people can’t deal with some trash talk. If you can’t take some insults from someone over XBox LIVE how do you realistically expect to cope in real life? It’s just ridiculous.

This is a step back for Halo - I can’t name a single successful multi-player game that has invisible ranks… all the good, balanced, competitive ones have a ranking system to reflect that.

No, the point of a ranking system is to keep people interested in the game and make them want to cooperate with each other in an effort to win.

None of that is going to happen if nobody can see my rank. Why would I care what my rank is if nobody can see it.

Sucks then that the only good Halo lacks ranks, completely.

I thought that hidden ranking is to prevent cheating not to prevent trash talk. Oh and if you and I are arguing about game mechanics both of us have no real life.

Ya, it also lacks online play.

not the PC version

No it doesn’t.

To clarify, the point of removing visible ranks is that it kills the account-selling market. This should improve the ability of the game to match similarly-skilled players, as nobody will be playing with a falsely high rating. Whining/trash-talking has nothing to do with it.

today: “omfg wtf hidden effing rank, this is so stupid, effing noobs and whiney kids”

That’s online communities all over. Same story with the quit ban - everybody wants it, until it’s added, then everybody hates on it like it’s -Yoink!-.

Wow really?

I give up

“quiter’s are ruining my games we need a quit ban!!!”

“omg if Halo 4 has a quit ban im not buying it”

yeah i honestly think half of the online community just thrive on complaining about something 24/7

I agree. 343i, you must change your decision about this. This is the worst news I’ve heard from Halo 4 so far.

Epic facepalm

I don’t understand people sometimes.

It’s now the equivilant to genitals: It’s great that you have it, but people would rather you not show them off to everyone you meet.

I think it’s more to prevent the sale of 50s. Now that you can’t tell what is there until you get it, you’re more likely to not buy the 50, or whatever the max rank is called.

Ya, except that makes no sense.

When someone buys an account they’re either going play ranked and rank down to where they should be…even matches. Or play social where MM is really loose and their rank means nothing.

To be honest, I never come across people bragging about their rank. I mean, who actually does that? I’ve come across 2 Inheritors who loved the sound of their own voice too much, but it wasn’t anything a little betrayal and tea-bagging couldn’t cure.

reach doesn’t have any ranks. it has a point collection system where you get a sticker based on the amount of points you collect.
rank is only for multiplayer, not firefight and campaign too
