Violence level

Anyone else think it would be kinda neat to have a Halo game that has a lot more gore in it? Kinda like Gears of War gory?

I don’t really see what purpose excessive gore serves.

Too much gore is kinda a turnoff for me. That being said I don’t mind a little gore to help enhance the immersion. There’s a fine line between realism and excess.

In one of the books someone’s leg got severed with a plasma shot and apparently needle weapons are very messy. I don’t remember who or where I read it from

The leg being severed from plasma was from The Cole Protocol. (I think.) I can’t remember where the thing about needle weapons is from.

Hmm, maybe I’m miss remembering the needle weapons. I haven’t read any of the books

A little more gore? Eh, maybe. Gears of War-level gore? Please no.

…or Doom-level gore, for that matter.

I don’t think a gory Halo game is necessary. Blood and gore have never been a staple of Halo games, at least not like Gears or DOOM. And that’s fine; Halo never needed that kind of gore content to be fun. And even if Halo is less popular now than 10 years ago, trying to revitalize the franchise by turning it into a gorefest would be the wrong move.

Unless it was done tastefully, like in game adaption of Mona Lisa. But in a mainline Halo FPS? No, I think it would seem cheap and shoehorned in.

I would like to see gore in a certain level that it only adds to the Halo experience but don’t take away. Gore is something that can be added to make the enemies/friends feel more organic but the amount of blood used should be still be very limited so we don’t go over to other games.

Maybe if Flood mode returns they could do something cool with the assassinations but otherwise I think the level of blood used in games prior to the rating change would work fine in future titles.
Basically I’d like organic enemies to actually bleed when I shoot them.

i would much prefer the old style Halo gory. Not the DOOM level of ripping enemies to pieces or H5g plastic dollies but the older Halo gore with sense of taste.

It is fine the way it is. No need for the excessive gore.

I’m somewhat fine if Halo had the gore type from Halo CE and Halo 3, but we don’t need unnecessary amounts of gore and guts, etc. that come from games like Gears of War 1-3, and definitely don’t need any gore from that game Prototype 1-2 (there’s no third title to the Prototype franchise as the studio has gone bankrupt and is now non-existent.)

Halo has never reveled in the gore. The violence was never really the focus of any of the Halo games past the obviousness of the Flood. The only source of Halo media that does use gore meaningfully is Mona Lisa, and that’s because it’s Halo’s horror story and the gore is used to make the Flood actually scary. The ingame Flood are basically beige papermache with green goop. They ain’t really that gory. Halo has always been on the cusp between T and M. It’s not a franchise like GoW or Dead Space where the gore is meaningful and is a focus of the gameplay and atmosphere. Adding more blood and gore for the sake of adding more blood and gore is just bad design.

maybe to much like guts across the floor but definitely more blood (it’s fun to just paint the entire hallway in covenant blood. especially in CE when just repeatedly punching a dead body would create an ocean of blood) and I wouldn’t mind some severed limbs ever once in a while or seeing a chunk blown off. halo CE use to have some gore regarding the flood but it wasn’t very vivid due to old graphics and models.

Halo is too good for gore. You don’t need gore to make a game exciting.

No thank you. Halo 3 level of blood is all I can stomach.

Perhaps if some spinoff Horror Halo game was made, then excess gore would be welcomed to help set the tone. But in a mainstream Halo game? Extreme gore is overdoing it a little bit, especially at DOOM levels of gore. Gears level of gore would also probably be overdoing it a little. I wouldn’t mind seeing the Halo games go back to having a little bit more nit and grit that allowed the art studio to add a little gore here and there, but it really shouldn’t be something that would be in your face all the time.

Although there are exceptions, We all know the opening scene from Halo 5, at the very end of the scene, just before you’re about to take control of Locke, it would’ve been cool to see a little bit of elite blood-shed after taking that hit from the energy sword instead of it going in like butter. And then there’s the flood, they need an element of gore to show themselves. Their whole nature of what they do makes your insides wanna spin sometimes so, they would likely be a big exception if they were to return.

I don’t feel like excessive amounts of gore is in the style of halo. Small amounts of blood from shooting enemies or from getting shot is fine enough, with the most blood and gore I’ve ever seen being in the mission 343 guilty spark I believe in Halo CE.

This is Halo it’s not Doom, it’s not GoW, It’s not CoD. Halo does well with the small bits of blood it has (or had, I don’t think I’ve seen any blood in Halo5) and I think it doesn’t need to add more blood to the game.
