Hello, there was recently a locked post with some heated arguments about the Assault Rifle. I use the Assault Rifle a lot. I’ve used it through my whole Halo career. The previous thread on the AR hurts to hear and I almost feel looked down upon for using it.
What I’m asking is: Do you look down upon people who use the Assault Rifle?
In my opinion, I Love the gun. It feels realistic and I’ve always been comfortable with it. I get kills and I am not a pushover either.
It just disappoints me how others view the gun and the shooter him/herself; and I’m interested in what you think.
I believe the weapon is fine and is perfectly balanced, however i do not believe the weapon takes a whole lot of skill to use compared to other weapons like the carbine or light rifle.
The ar exists for people to get used to the game, no shame in using it.
However if you use it with a jetpack (any weapon for that matter) I dislike you very much. But if you dont use it with a jetpack its perfectly fine keep spraying ar users.
I don’t look down on AR users at all. If they win a gunfight, they probably deserved to win because I let myself fall into close-enough range.
While it is true that many newcomers use the AR, many Halo fans forget that it is the iconic weapon of Halo and people who are just skilled with it as they are on precision weapons may use it, too.
Anyone who whines about auto aim on the AR is about to lose their only real gripe with the weapon, as it is losing much of its autoaim function in the next update, while getting a slight damage buff to compensate. Use what you want, ignore the people who complain.
It took 2 full clips, the enemy was already in red reticule range, and the enemy had to stand completely still, as mentioned on the YouTube comment. The Halo 4 DMR aim-assist is much worse.
And why do you keep linking a Halo: Reach video when we are discussing Halo 4?

You’re right, but I think I failed to convey what I tried to say in my post. I meant that the AR killed in a similar manner many other automatics do; by holding down the trigger when you lock on the enemy.
It took less than one magazine to kill (19 rounds, actually) because that guy let the shields fully recharge. Considering that the AR takes 16 hits to kill, that means that only THREE ROUNDS MISSED.
Because the AR in Reach isn’t much - if at all - different from H4’s.
> Don’t listen to the self-entitled “pros”, just keep on spraying.
This.
The Assault Rifle has always been a somewhat underpowered weapon compared to the Battle Rifle, DMR, and other precision weapons. I’m glad 343i finally gave it a much-needed damage buff in Halo 4; it’s actually worth something in Multiplayer now.
It also takes a bit more skill to use, seeing as it has no headshot capability. How a 16-shot kill weapon with terrible accuracy and short range could possibly require less skill than a 4-shot kill weapon with pinpoint accuracy and a much longer range, I have no idea…

Oh yes it does, watching the spread of the crooshairs which are harder to see than dmr etc, while aiming at the opponent, is more difficult than easily aiming a reticule like br or dmr etc at a head.
