Views on bloom in Halo 4?

With the announcement that bloom is featured in THE CURRENT BUILD of Halo 4, what are your views on it?

Personally, I think bloom is a good idea, especially since it is decreased from Reach, meaning you still have to pace your shots but not as much. For all you people that argue that bloom is a bad thing, I disagree, as I think it sets a dividing line between those who spam (for lack of a better term)and those who live to fight another enemy. That’s my opinion thats all.

Footnote: Rcoil=Bloom, Bloom=Recoil. Think of it as when the weapon recoils, its going to move slightly, just like real life, hence your reticule will be knocked off alignment slightly.

Recoil is not bloom, as seen in previous Halo games where weapons had recoil but no sight bloom.

Personally I’m against it.

I hate the mechanic because it adds randomness into the equation.

Recoil isn’t spread. Recoil is when your reticule moves up after firing, to simulate the real life effect of firing a gun. I know you didn’t mention spread, but I think it needs to be explained too: spread is the spread of bullets within a boundary. Bloom is when the spread boundary shares a linear relationship with your rate of fire. Fire slowly and the spread zone will stay relatively small, fire fast and it’ll grow exponentially.

I’d prefer it if guns in Halo 4 didn’t have recoil, didn’t have random spread (predictable spread is okay, and would be needed on a gun like the shotgun), and didn’t have bloom.

If anything, Bloom encourages spamming, because the advantage of the faster kill times outweighs the disadvantages of higher accuracy. A spammer wins 9/10 close-mid range DMR battles, get a friend online and test it yourself in a custom game. And really, even if only spammers won 1/10 DMR battles, it still adds randomness. Imagine in a game of chess that when you are about to take a piece, you have to first roll a die to see if it lands on six, then take that piece.

MRTT.

Less bloom kinda makes it redundant. They need to increase the bloom rate or size so that you’ll miss most shots when spamming. Or tweak the settings like more bloom means no magnetism or no headshots until reset.

Huh…? Noo no nooo no no no

Uh, yeah? A larger bloom size and faster rate means the spammer will miss most shots, while the pacer will land most shots. Turning off magnetism and such means the spammer won’t have their bullets automatically draw closer towards the target. Turning off headshots when the bloom it outside the aiming reticle means a spammer will never win.

The better alternative is taking the route that causes much less player frustration; modifying the RoF, damage, and magazine size.

As long as it adds an element of randomness to gunfights (your idea still DOES), it should not be in the game. Stop spewing this malarkey.

Or… Or you could just get rid of the bloom? Don’t have a problem with spammers then.

That’s not how you advance.

It’s how you balance

…by getting rid of it? Yeah, does sound like MLG talking. “It doesn’t work, let’s not figure out how to make it work, let’s just remove it”.

Man, Street Fighter 4 became lame when they started making non-Ken and non-Sagat characters working.

>Halo
>Reticule Bloom

Pick one.

As long as my Light Rifle, Carbine, and BR don’t have bloom, I’m fine.

Although it makes no sense on precision weapons.

“Sounds like MLG talking?” HAHA

Sounds like Halo* talking

Let me use an example:

On a single shot weapon with a small reticle, it is obvious that single shot weapon will be difficult to aim, and be much better-suited for longer range engagements.
Now make this weapon’s reticle expand. The expanding reticle gives it a bigger area for shots to hit up close, as opposed to the smaller reticle that is very difficult to aim up close.

No bloom on a DMR is more balanced than a blooming one, since the no bloom one gives it a defined role.

Bloom just doesn’t make sense if you really think about what they were trying to accomplish with it.

Everyone always says “It separates the people who just spam from the people that time their shots”, as if they mean it separates the bad from the skilled.

Now the problem I have with that statement is that it doesn’t take skill to wait .5 seconds between each shot (as an arbitrary number of time). It takes skill to land more shots on your opponent than he lands on you. Whether that be because you used cover to your advantage, nades, or just simply out aimed him. Being able to fire your weapon as rapidly as you want makes no difference.

If you have -Yoink- aim and only land 50% of your shots, spamming isn’t going to help you, your still only hitting your opponent with 50% of your bullets. Meanwhile your opponent is landing 90% of his bullets and capable (because no bloom exists) of shootings just as quickly as you therefore killing you faster and winning the battle.

Bloom just adds a whole separate level of frustration that accomplishes nothing accept slow gameplay down and royally piss you off when you out play someone but miss the last head shot once or twice then have two of his teammates come around the corner and finish you.

Bloom is actually less random than bullet spread.
