In Halo 3, back in the day we had the ‘Road to Recon’ which was 7 Vidmaster achievements spread across Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST that once completed allowed players to unlock the exclusive ‘Recon’ armour set for multiplayer. Will we see this feature again in Halo 5 Guardians? We already have the Helioskrill armour for completing the MCC campaigns on legendary (and ‘Nightfall’ armour for watching Halo Nightfall), but what about Vidmasters?
In Halo Spartan Assault there are 2 achievements - available on all platforms:
- Vidmaster Challenge: Complete Operation E, Mission 1 with the Hollow and Black Eye Skulls active
- Vidmaster Challenge 2.0: Complete Operation F, Mission 4 with the Blind and Thunderstorm Skulls active
In Halo Spartan Strike again in both versions, there are an additional 5 Vidmaster achievements. - Vidmaster Challenge A: Complete Operation A, Mission 6 with the Blind and Thunderstorm Skulls active
- Vidmaster Challenge B: Complete Operation B, Mission 6 with the Hollow and Pacifist Skulls active
- Vidmaster Challenge C: Complete Operation C, Mission 6 with the Black Eye and Pacifist Skulls active
- Vidmaster Challenge D: Complete Operation D, Mission 6 with the Famine and Thunderstorm Skulls active
- Vidmaster Challenge E: Complete Operation E, Mission 6 with the Hollow and Black Eye Skulls active
Now 343I isn’t Bungie, and 7 is no longer the de facto magic number, but there are 7 Vidmasters that can currently be completed that contribute nothing to the franchise. I wonder if they will thus unlock a reward for Halo 5 Guardians, or if they are simply a forgotten project (due to both games being fairly poorly received).
I’m a big fan of both games, so I hope this means that there will be an Xbox One release of Spartan Strike before October 27th, But what are your thoughts?
