Vidmaster or similar challenges for Halo Infinite

Hi all,
I recently noticed 343 were hiring a live game designer to work on progression, player expression, and activities, to help with monetization. It got me thinking of ways to spice up the battle pass and provide more interesting ways to earn rewards than just grinding xp… again. I know the xp is tied to challenges already so it’s at least a little more interesting and they’ve said there will be more ways to earn rewards outside the battle pass but I wanted to throw this idea out to the forums to see what you guys think and get it on 343’s radar as I think it would add some exciting content as well as serious value to the battle pass.

We’ve already got daily challenges, weekly challenges, and a capstone challenge. The idea is to add a set of difficult Vidmaster challenges, likely 4 of them, earned at certain levels of the battle pass. (ie. 25, 50, 75, 100) alongside a free unlock at the same levels for each seasons battle pass. Like at lvl 25 you get a challenge swap as well as unlock a challenge to do. Once earned they show up under your challenges section, they may or may not give some xp, but once all 4 are completed you unlock a piece/set of armor.

This would mean in order to earn a cool set of armor someone would have to

  • Buy a battle pass - Complete all 100 lvls of the battle pass - Complete the 4 difficult challengesThe players get challenging content to play with their friends (some challenges might require co-op like the annual and endure achievements did) and exclusive rewards, because some might require co-op, it’s likely more people would buy the pass so Microsoft gets their money. It can also generate some good advertising as streamers have something exciting to make content about.

The challenges would have to be specific though or they just become something else to grind for. Like (we don’t know what Infinite’s campaign will be like yet but) complete the last level on legendary co-op with the iron skull on and no one getting in a vehicle.

Let me know what you guys think, I’m buying the battle pass either way but I like a challenge and love how halo 3 unlocks worked (get an achievement, get a piece of armor). I have friends that aren’t too interested in the battle pass but would totally do this content with me and heck I would buy them a battle pass so they can get the rewards even if they were part way through the pass and I would play the content again with them when they needed it if they got to lvl 100.

Edit: I just thought of another benefit for them to do something like this. Potentially if someone plays the f2p multiplayer, decides to buy the battle pass, completes it and sees that they have a challenge or 2 that require the campaign to get a cool reward, it could convert to sales of the campaign that might not have happened or even gamepass.

I mean, I like the idea, except the part where you have to buy the battle pass to get it. 10 years ago I would buy a game for $60 and get all of the unocks/progression system with that value. Now I have to pay for it every 3 months?

Yoink that.

In a perfect world 100% but sadly live service games make way too much money for that to change anytime soon. We could all agree to not buy the pass, but then how do you even organize that and there would still be enough people buying anyway. So the next best thing would be to try and get as much value out of them as possible in my opinion.
