Video that did not age well

I really thought this video, from 343, was interesting to watch. I think the closing line particularly hits home even today.

umm didn’t they take over after halo after reach somewhere around 2010/11, they lied in that video and said they took over halo in 2007, that was one year after H3

Perhaps they meant they started work on halo waypoint then?

maybe but they definitely said they took over making halo in 07, i would like to quote general Shepard from MW2 and say “history is written by the victor; history is full of liars” but 343 hasn’t won anything but humiliation and ridicule

They said they became stewards of the franchise.

I seem to recall halo books around this time started saying 343 industries on them.

Edit: Actually I looked deeper into this. 2007 is when Bungie said it had plans to split from microsoft. It was also the year microsoft created 343 to handle the franchise.

They released this video, then a few months later in July they released the Infinite gameplay reveal and got delayed another year due to the player backlash. Then they had to hire an old writer to come clean things up and 343 was forced to admit to the public that none of the teams were on the same page when they revealed Infinite to the world, how embarrassing.

Bungie split from MS in 2007. MS founded 343 that same year and “officially” took over Halo.

Reach was created in the meantime with Bungie essentially being independent at that point with 343 working on Halo: CE Anniversary, the creation of the Halo Waypoint app and the anime series Halo Legends.

People didn’t really know about 343 until Halo 4 because that was their foray into the mainline Halo games.

Didn’t know some of that

“We have to be able to respect that legacy that we have come from, to help make sure that Halo doesn’t just become an amalgamation of what the market is currently doing”

  • Jerry Hook | Head of Design, Halo Infinite.

I hope this dude didn’t work on the Multiplayer design…

Because multiplayer is precisely an amalgamation of everything that the market is doing and that we all hate: Free 2 Play model plagued with microtransactions for everything we used to like at crazy prices, and that in previous games they were part of the full $60 game.

Not to mention the increasingly ridiculous cosmetic items they are selling in order to monetize the f2p model.
Just like the rest of the market is doing

You are absolutely right, this video did not age well at all.
