Hi everybody, I just stumbled upon an interesting YouTube video. It shows Halo 5 gameplay with classic sound edited over it. I think the video is well done.
I would love to see classic sound return in Halo Infinite. I actually think the classic sound fits 343’s gameplay style very well. It feels more like old Halo to me.
Let me know what you think.
That’s awesome! Wish it sounded like this as well.
Its very interesting to see how much more recognizable this sounds! Honestly though the advanced movement has to be completely ditched or heavily, heavily changed.
This was so nostalgic! lol.
Notice also how said sounds actually stand out when they are not being obscured by Halo 5’s obnoxious bleeps and bloops from hitmarkers and headshots constantly going off.
Even Halo 5’s sound design overall would probably feel a lot better if those things were removed. Moral of the story is don’t add hitmarkers/hitmarker sounds, and headshot pops to Halo(the obvious exception being grunt birthday party.) It just serves to water down what could otherwise be solid sound design.
This sounds so much better. I hate how cluttered Halo 5 sounds. Too many sounds overlapping drives me nuts. Halo 3 sounds so clear and concise in comparison with more recognizable sounds.

This! Keep it clean with the fx! No background war noise or high pitched on screen warnings. I just wanna hear the players and the destruction they cause!

Shields recharge beeping aside, H5 on a sound effects level wouldn’t have been to bad at all imho, but they over did it with all those hitmarkers.
I got to say though, H5 and especially H4 sounded a bit too generic compared to the old trilogy and especially Reach. Quality wise superb, but not unique basically!
completely agree, I really liked the video
Great video. As fun as Halo 5 Forge on PC was for the short time I’ve played it the sounds started to give me headaches after 20 minutes of play. I love the simplicity of the classic sounds, easily recognizable and not too “in your face”.

Halo 5’s sound design is not terrible. In fact, it can be argued that the quality of it is better in many ways: shooting inside sounds much different than shooting outside, echo location is far more accurate in Halo 5 than in past Halo’s, and some of the guns sound way more like actual guns than just some “iconic” Halo sound effect that got recycled.
It’s all up to personal preference whether a person thinks Halo 3 sound design is better than Halo 5’s. I will point out what this video does prove tho.
-Death noises: practically non existent in Halo 5 aside from the breath being let out of a person who dies that you can barely hear.
-The lack of the obnoxious “pop” noise when you get a head shot. If you a headshot, why not just let the player know in a practical way rather than some artificial X in the middle of the screen and a noise that apparently comes out of nowhere?
-One announcer: The most dumb thing in Halo 5 is the random announcer who is the alleged “referee” in the game telling you when power weapons are up and so forth.
why, why, why, WHY, would there be the need for that? How could they honestly have thought that anyone other than Jeff Steitzer needed to be announcing things in Halo?
The pistol was something that would either need a reskin, or a slightly altered sound. Otherwise this is pretty fun!
I remember somebody did this with part of the halo 4 campaign a few years ago.

Agree with the bolded stuff. I just want Jeff saying things. I also liked it when we had to find power weapons around the map ourselves.

Also agree with these points as well. I think that’s the headshot sound and hitmarkers do take away from the overall sound of the game. Halo 3 sounded much more clearer and simple. Just gunshots, death noises, and Jeff.
