okay, so this is something I’ve noticed since day 1! It seems like Everytime I use a “victory boost” req, the game pairs me against people way above my league and pairs me alongside absolute idiots. I try my damnedest, and I even go on the mic, but these people REFUSE to listen! I don’t think I’ve ever won with a victory boost yet because of this!
I’ve had the curse since they added challenges for winning games in Reach. If I’m trying to win for a challenge, I lose. Almost always. It’s a curse all right. I outright sell my victory boosts now because on average I get more out of them that way haha.
When I use that I put me into matched that have 2 minutes left in it or is just about to end so it doesn’t ever really help me get xp or rp bonuses.
Here’s what I do before using a victory card. Obviously this isn’t full proof, but it’s worked more than it hasn’t worked. This is based on playing solo btw. I hope this helps.

I’ll usually use it after I lose a few games or win a couple games. The game is very streaky so usually by the third or forth game expect to have the opposite outcome for the next game.

Wait to make sure you’re not going into a JIP game before using it. Most times in my experience you’re going to lose a JIP game.

Get a feel for the pregame lobby. If your team has some unmuted mics that aren’t into the game (partying, talking to ppl in the background, little kid), then I would assume I’m not going to win or it’s going to be a harder game to win.

If you see a bunch of the same emblems, chances are that’s a full party and I wouldn’t risk using it. I also don’t use it if I see a bunch of certain emblems which people use that normally are in parties, but this is already getting a bit long to point them all out.
Those types of Req are like gambling. You take a chance and if it works pays well, if not oh well you just waste one.
Even the whole game is by chance, just because you shot first and take down someones shields, you may get that one blink of lag to stall you enough for them to pop you back.
It’s a gamble when you play solo.

I think it’s a psychological thing, the more that you want that one W, the harder it is to get.

Let’s name that curse because I think it is an actual thing that happens. Seriously though, every single time I use a victory boost, especially a Legendary one, I lose.
