Veterans of Reach

Post hear if you played Halo from the beginning and have played Reach from the very start. And if you still follow the old way of friendly competition, no AFK’ing and respectful of other players.

Wouldn’t that be “veterans of Halo” then?

> Wouldn’t that be “veterans of Halo” then?

Yes, yes it should. but it would probably get moved to general discussion though. That and the problems are most evident in Reach.

Since day “Beta” Same with Halo 3 and Halo 2 and Halo CE.

Friendly competition is great. Unfortunately a lot of gamers today feel the need to prove they’re worth something so they’ll abuse everything broken, overpowered, or glitchy in order to pad their stats.

I try my best to do all of those but sometimes there are power outages and other times where I just HAVE to leave my xbox.

I’ve been playing since Beta day as well, and also, idgaf about stats. I play for fun, and when I see someone who brags about their stats my one goal is to then destroy them, one way or another. My favorite game so far was this one where we were up against a clan of forerunners, and decided that we wanted to get to negative 50 before they got to 50 lol THOSE are fun games.

Playing for fun is no excuse for playing badly and killing yourself lol.

Everyone plays for fun man…

Fun is subjective.

I’ve been playing Halo since day one. Started playing online with H3. Got HR on midnight release. Played everyday till about July / August when I went to Zombies on COD BO. Just came back a week ago. Got the new maps but i’m waiting till black friday to buy CE  I have every Halo game. Does this qualify as a Vet ?

I bought an XboX for Halo, not the other way around. Loved the game then as I do now, I wait with abaited breath for 4 and hopefully 5 and beyond =)

I have been playing Halo for a little over 2 years now, Have played reach from the beta and onward, I would like it if there were more mature people on XBL though,(People who don’t kill you because you took the sniper rifle or quit when their team is losing).

Seeing as the average video game consumer is about 9 to 23, which surprisingly is not a bastion for maturity in the real world (sarcasim) it appears that it is unreasonable to expect a high level of maturity on the digital battlefeilds. However young man you may lead by example and foster a higher level of maturity for future Halo fans, for the betterment of franchise.Carry on soldier.

been playing FPS since GoldenEye 007, I remember using the CE Pistol and it reminding me of the DD44 Dostovei in GoldenEye. To me Halo:CE was just another FPS no big deal…or so I thought! man I soon realized that this game was going to spawn an Empire. I told my brother “this game has so much potential and is going to bring back competitive FPS and raise it to a new level”. I was surprised by Halo2 when it became the biggest FPS in XBL history. That was the best of all Halos only rivaled by CE.

Halo3 barely hanged on despite its poor registration but the competitive spirit and skill gap was still there. I would easily trade Reach’s registration for the Fun and competitiveness of Halo3.

Reach hung a dark black cloud over the Halo name and tarnished it for ever. And when I mean for ever I mean FOR EVER!! I seriously dont think Bungie or 343i can ever do anything to fix Reach and make it competitive again. Also Reach has seriously weakened the Halo Fan base and many will not have the same faith in the future Halos like they had in Halo2, those glory days are gone for good but we sure had fun! time for us old CE, H2, H3 vets to step aside and let the Defense of Reach kids have their fun.

funny thing though the top MLG pros are CE, H2 veterans!lol go figure.

I don’t believe in labeling. Just because I’ve played a video game longer than the next person doesn’t entitle me to be superior to them. I’ve been around since Bungie’s days of Myth (well before Halo), however my opinion is just as valid as someone who just picked up Reach yesterday.

I play the video games I want to play. I play Reach how I want to play it.

Bought Halo CE as a launch title, have bought the top edition of every Halo Since & have bought all Halo special edition Xbox’s & 360’s

Currently a Nova & bought Halo CEA…

Long live Halo.

However the community has deteriorated over the years…

sounds about right, except for the part that if you played Halo for a long time and someone who just picked it up recently share the same valid opinion.

Someone who’s never played CE, H2 in their respected era on XBL cant say that Reach is better after only playing those games at a friends house. This does not mean that the new Reach player is inferior as a gamer to a CE, H2 veteran, but the new Reach player lacks a VERY important factor that separates the two in explaining reasons about a games failure or success and that is “EXPERIENCE”.

A mechanic with 30 years experience is better than one fresh out of UTI. A Chef with 20 years experience is better than one fresh out of Culinary School (this is one I’ve experienced myself). Even if you know how Reach was made code by code and say how more advance it is to the past Halos, you still haven’t played the past Halos in the prime to experience them in their full glory. Both new gamers and veterans posses the same skill level to play games but veterans know more about “why a game is what it is”, not so much focusing on “what a game is”

Another example is the Bungie Team. These guys created Reach and know more about it than anyone! Yet every time I played them in MM I completely destroyed them, same on Halo3. These guys had very little XBL experience to my knowledge, they made the most obvious noob mistakes, never timing P Weapons and PowerUps, not pushing with their teammates, running alone, using almost a whole clip to kill (some were actually good shots), camping with shotties in small rooms, etc…

No one from the Defense of Reach has ever giving me a real good reason why Reach is a great game, they always tell me how advance the graphics, netcode, registration are and the Bloom adding skill gap! Graphics to me look almost the same to Halo3 even sometimes Halo3 looking a little better in terms of realistic and Reach looks a little more Comic Book to me, CE and H2 were on old inferior xbox originals so no contest.
Reach despite having advanced technology still lags and not registers like Halo2, believe me I have videos of my DMR and Sniper penetrating heads and NOT registering and on Halo2 that was very rare, need I remind you I’ve been using the same internet and equipment since 2004.
Reach does however blow Halo3’s registration out of the water. As for Bloom adding skill gap, it does NOT. It adds randomness and hated by almost every MLG Pro for the same reasons us normal players hate it. So if the best in the world say Bloom sucks then what good excuse does the Defense of Reach have by saying it adds skill gap? Where’s their evidence? Everyone else including the Pros explain how it adds randomness and punishes skilled players (NINJA on the booth with Gandhi at last weeks Nationals explains it). It seems many who lack XBL experience and only have about 3 years on it think Bloom is a good thing. When many many with experience and top Pros with experience from past Halos hate it. Numbers dont lie, Reach’s online fans are dying…

Experience means a lot in opinions in other words “know what your talking about”…if some 14 year old tells me Twilight is the best Vampire movie ever!..do you think his/her opinion matter when comparing Twilight to “Interview with a Vampire” or “Bram Stoker’s Dracula”? his/her best excuse is Twilight made more money thanks to its books, Graphics and over televised marketing (sound familiar?), when the fact is if Twilight was released back when those two Vampire movies were huge Twilight wouldn’t last a week at the Theater.
Or when some teenage idiot compares the wimpy “Kings of Leon” to the “Legendary Led Zeppelin”, he/she were not even born to see Zeppelin perform and automatically assume Kings of Leon are better! I hope you understand what I’m saying here!

i agree, in that reach mm isnt as great as h2 or h3. been playing halo since CE, about a month after its release. i enjoy reach mm though don’t get me wrong. still, i would like to see the next halo game gear more towards how halo 2/3 mm was. and for the love of god please put in a ranking system like h2/3! I don’t mind a lifetime rank like Reach has, but i would also like a number ranked system for each individual playlist!

Your memories must serve you falsee as this “friendly competition” and “no afking” and “respect towards other players” have remained constant. You are probably only taking a few or several good memories and have forgotten the rest.

Just for reach. I got it the day it came out, then halfway through it I quit playing and went to CoD. Then 343 got control over the game, and not I am back on it. I’m saying that bungie did NOTHING to make the game better, and did not care about the fans anymore. So I am liking it now.

> Your memories must serve you falsee as this “friendly competition” and “no afking” and “respect towards other players” have remained constant. You are probably only taking a few or several good memories and have forgotten the rest.

Well Halo2’s worst memory is really the Modders and Stand-byers, and the simple solution to that was simply quit and move on…AFKing was really not common in H2 but its done religiously on H3, and this too is simply avoided by quitting.

BUT on Reach we have to put up with AFKing and Modding or we’ll get temp banned, YES there is still modding in Reach, I have videos of Snipers shooting 6 round clips with super auto-aim through walls! and unlimited Armor Locking as well. And many many many stand-byers capturing flags while everybody is in black screen.

I would easily put up with the little flaws in H2 or the major flaws in H3 then to put up with the complete ginormous flaws in Reach while also being force to put up with AFKers, Stand-byers, and Betrayals to avoid temp-ban!
