tl;dr summary: Units do not receive experience toward veterancy if they are MOVING or being given commands. Please FIX this bug/ glitch!
Hello,
I have noticed that my units do not gain experience toward veterancy if they have recently received a command (such as being told to move to a location). They only seem to receive experience toward veterancy if they are sitting still and haven’t received any recent commands.
I took some time to carry out some of my own experiments and I have also done some research and there are multiple other people who will confirm this bug with their experiments:
(seriously, read this article! it goes into amazing detail)
Additionally, I have heard people talking about how the battle hardened perk does not actually help with achieving veterancy. I haven’t tested this, but I have heard from numerous people that this is an issue. There are other issues with veterancy. Any user input, such as a Y ability, seems to either contribute no experience toward veterancy or a significantly reduced amount (not sure which). Additionally, some attacks, such as Seagent Johnson’s (hero) homing missile (and many others) don’t even contribute toward experience for veterancy. I think that all damage and attacks should contribute. Finally, if a unit is given the “hold position” command, it will not receive experience toward veterancy, even if no further commands are given.
Please fix these issues! Especially the bug where units do not receive veterancy experience if they are moving or receiving commands! Thank you.
its unfair me at times. Sometimes when playing with Forge it takes me forever to get one star on him even tho I capture power nods and kills several units around the map, yet when I’m playing against him, as soon as forge survive only ONE battle, he takes a star…
Yeah, maybe it is because you are microing him. Effectively, when we micro a unit, we are moving it and controlling it. That’s when this bug/ glitch is the worst because it prevents experience toward veterancy whenever you are actively giving that unit commands or moving them. We are effectively being punished for microing our units, which is absurd. If anything, I feel microing a unit should be rewarded. Please fix this.
I honestly prefer to keep the glitch in the game, Vet in this game is extremely powerful, Vet heroes turn the game around so hard it’s not even funny, having them get vet easier because of the bug fix will just make Heroes even more unkillable then they currently are.
Why punish every other unit in the game out of fear for heroes? Also consider that heroes might be getting veterancy faster than other units because of how their mechanics interact with this veterancy movement glitch. Often times heroes are getting veterancy really fast when they are placed in a garrison. By standing still, in a garrison, they are getting veterancy experience (because the bug doesn’t affect stationary units). Additionally, they have shields so they are often left to stand still longer than other units, because they can tank it.
You could potentially nerf the rate at which heroes receive veterancy. However, I think that every unit suffers from this glitch, with some units being affected more than others (the ones that require constant movement). If every unit could have this glitch fixed so that they can all receive veterancy experience, regardless of movement, then it would put them on even footing with heroes. They should all level up equally. By doing so, this will balance out any buffs to veterancy across all units and make it balanced.

I seriously don’t think anything suffers from this glitch that badly, units with high HP can still stand still and get vet, kodiaks and blisterbacks still gain vet really fast.
Vet 3 is the scariest thing on anything, I’d rather not deal with something that does almost double damage and has insane amount of damage reduction.
If necessary, the rate to achieving veterancy experience can be decreased for all units. However, I still think that it is unfair that microing a unit means that it doesn’t gain experience toward veterancy, simply due to a glitch that prevents veterancy experience when the unit is moving or receiving commands. Sure the mechanic works properly for siege units like kodiaks, however why should units that are glass cannons and require microing not receive any benefit at all? Units like wolverines or air units and many others with low hit points are constantly being moved around and don’t gain veterancy as a result. I think microing your units should not punished.
Also, I understand that vet 3 is scary. However, if you have a balanced system that lets all units get veterancy, it might not be as scary as you’d think. I think that a large part of the reason why it seems so scary right now is because of the broken mechanics that sometimes prevent an opposing player from getting veterancy. Many people don’t know about this glitch and aren’t able to get veterancy as a result, while others are able to get vet level 3 units by abusing this silly glitch (whether they know about it or not).
Also consider how broken it is for something like a kodiak that can literally sit still and gain veterancy while other units are forced to move toward it (and thus do not gain veterancy experience). I’m not saying that kodiaks are in any way overpowered (they aren’t). I just mean that the rate at which some units can gain veterancy is very unbalanced because of this veterancy experience/ movement glitch.
