Very tired of losing through disbalance

No its boosters. Ranked is riddled with it. They have been clever and tried to hide it by having the smurf play some games afterwards but looking at the smurf account, their first ever game of halo was straight into ranked on a full Onyx team. then 5 more games total after that to obscure it.

That Unranked smurf brought the hidden csr value of the team CRASHING down, to the point where matchmaking figured oh hey, we will put this team against this low diamond/high platinum team.

Smurfing is c@ncer.

So they are all in a group? That still doesn’t justify 3 onyx against 2 diamonds and a plat unrated or not. Like the skill gap between a plat and an onyx is massive.

Matchmaking doesnt look at the ranks we see.

Everyone has a hidden score that MM uses.

MM puts the teams CSR the combined or average over the entire team against a similar hidden scored team.

You can be a diamond 6 for example and have a higher hidden csr than an onyx player.

Its all very convoluted and pointlessly over thought out.

Ya that’s absolutely terrible.

Almost, only an assist is worth 0.3 and not 1, so 10 kils, 5 deaths and 1 assist would make a KDA of 10-5+(1/3) =5.3

yes that right, my mistake.

Any tips lol? I always did good in halo, but I could only ever carry 3 negative kd teammates in h2.

Tbh some games are a lost cause, if your teammates lose every 1v1 or keep making crazy single file solo rushes then there’s little you can do. But some games the teammates are going negative because we aren’t supporting them. I’m sure you can think of games where you’ve died a bunch to power weapons or because you’re being constantly 2v1’d. Some games you feel unstoppable and everything falls into place and usually we see it as just a good game, but a lot of the time these are the games where our teammates are facilitating our playstyle the most, or at least the teamwork is flowing more effortlessly.

When I’m playing my main goal is to secure the power weapons and map control. I don’t have to have them but I at least want my team to have them. If your teammate is passive with them then that’s fine, but if they’re aggressive then you should also be aggressive because they could lose the weapon doing that. On some maps that’s an actual death sentence like when the enemy gets two Snipers in their half of the map. It’s unacceptable behaviour to lose a power weapon in the enemies half of the map in most circumstances and seriously hurts the team.

Neutralising the better players also helps. If your team can’t handle a certain player, but you can then you need to force more matchups against that player and make that players life as difficult as possible. Your team won’t be dying if their best player is in your pocket.

Thing for me is like sometimes you can challenge a 1v1 and get a kill, while this is happening two of your teammates die. You’re plus 1, but your team score is now -1. If you recognise things like this, or certain teammates are particularly struggling this game then it’s good to be mindful about fulfilling a more supportive role to them as the game plays out. Keeping your team alive is important to not keep losing score trade offs. Solid map control and keeping good sightlines always makes the game easier.

Sometimes I’ll find that I have to drop my usual strats to fill a hole the team are creating for themselves. Are they not covering flanking enemies, are they overextending, I’ll just try to sort out what is going wrong. Usually I like to flank and cause a ruckus behind enemy lines so my team get free shots on the enemy while they’re focusing on me. But if you’re flanking and your team are dying to aggressive enemy pushes, then you might be getting kills here and there and staying positive but you aren’t helping the team in the numbers department for head on fights if while you’re doing this everyone else is losing their battles.

Also I use my mic in ranked most the time, even when my team aren’t. I’ll call everything out, I’ll use the pings to highlight enemies, remind them of weapons or if I just think they are focusing on the wrong areas. I’ll even sometimes encourage strategies like “push push push”, “get rockets I’ve got you covered”, “stay alive, back up, I’ve got you”, “someone needs to come overshield with me”, “probably spawning long hall, watch out”. Just little basic strategy things they might not necessarily be aware of that I am in the moment.

Sorry if none of that is helpful, that’s just my usual thought process in games.

I’m the same buddy. I very rarely play badly although I’ve been playing less recently so a few bad performances have slipped in. I do it to myself though. The friends I play with are beyond useless.

The other team has Onyx carrying the team duoing with a gold/silver and my team is Plats getting destroyed by the Onyx. Even if I can pull together a decent performance my team has some players with a very negative k/d. Also, players who don’t know how to play stronghold and run in circles around the map.

This is so true and I do the same… but most people don’t…

Why is matchmaking like this? Is it really supposed to mix players this way instead of putting people with similar rank together?

This is caused by the very aggressive sbmm which forces the best player in the team to hard carry everyone else, also this game’s population is very low which only exercebates the problem

It seems to me that there should be a change with matchmaking then. But they obviously do not care.

No matter what the state of the game is in you’re going to get this though if your not picking your own teammates. It’s like this with just about any other game that has small teams in matches. AI can’t read your mind to give you the perfect teammates every single time. It goes off how you play and tries to guess which teammates would be best for you from the lot of people searching lol.

Agreed. Team balancing is way off way too often, and that’s on top of the skill “brackets” being very weird and inconsistent, too (at least in my experience).

It seems like ~60% of the time one team is composed mostly of the higher skill players while the other goes hard negative with maybe one or two people who go even or slightly positive. I’ve been on both teams plenty of times and it isn’t fun either way; getting trounced obviously sucks, but there’s no fun in being on a team facing down a total mismatch either. With the introduction of “Steaktacular” it almost feels like 343 knew this would happen and tried to spin it as a positive.

One of the biggest issues with the team mismatching apart from just how un-fun it makes the game is that it tends to distort player stats IMO which leads to SBMM fluctuating. When I am put on the better team, my K/D improves probably something like 20-25%, and after a few matches of that, I find myself being put in matches with players who are just flat out better than I am, which is absolutely no fun at all. Just leads to an overall uneven experience.

SBMM is well intentioned, but this system just isn’t producing consistent quality matches.

I couldn’t agree more !

My win rate is around 30% and i perform well in the game types. Usually always have more kills than deaths and fight hard on objective. I go 16 kills 5 deaths and lose constantly because they give me beginner team mates. Game has horrible match making. The sbmm is too strong , soon as i win 1 match I’ll lose 3-5 in a row no matter how good i do.

To be clear, I hate SBMM. But it functions as intended, like it or not. The majority of my games are pretty close score-wise. 36% WR isn’t really a result of SBMM, to be honest. SBMM does its best to funnel players into a 50% WR. 36 is a pretty significant deviation from that and does imply something else is going on.

EDIT: OP, your winrate is not 36%. It’s 52.

Bro, why did you necropost on a topic almost a whole entire year old tho?

OP posted this almost a whole year ago, last January. Their winrate probably improved in a year of practice
