I’ve been a die hard halo fan since combat evolved which I bought my first Xbox for, 1-3 and Reach still represent the pinnacle of fps perfection to me. Halo 4 I thought was average, I didn’t like the textures which I think we’re abysmal compared to Reach’s graphics, the story was a bit boring, and the game was short and linear but I thought “it’s 343’s first game, not too bad for a first effort” I genuinely had faith that Halo 5 would address all of these issues and bring the beloved series back on top. So I got halo 5 deluxe edition pre ordered, got the game and… I’m absolutely devastated at what 343 have made. It doesn’t feel at all like Halo anymore, the graphics are blurry and jaggy, the draw range for resolution is appalling with heavy pixelation to boot. Level design is poor and cramped/linear, firefights are unintelligent and repetitive, team AI is ridiculously bad, some “missions” are basically extended interactive cut scenes, the story is dubious at best… I’ve never gotten halfway through a Halo and literally lost all desire to continue before this, I had to force myself to continue. And then the multiplayer customisation is another huge step back from Reach, low res armour with very poor colour modifications and choices, basic emblem design… Halo Reach looked better and played better than Halo 5. I don’t think 343 are capable of carrying the Halo franchise. For me my adventures with the Master Chief are over. I couldn’t be more disappointed.
As much as I enjoy the other HALO games and how great they were, I also understand a need to innovate. I do feel thought hat it’s wrong that classic HALO doesn’t even get its own playlist in HALO: 5. Telling people to go play HALO: MCC is an insult as the game still doesn’t work completely correctly in multiplayer and online co-op is still broken for many people.
Feel free to read my opinion if you like: https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/forums/6e35355aecdf4fd0acdaee3cc4156fd4/topics/my-halo-5-opinion/5649e53f-76b1-434f-9f7f-a79c4d4f4915/posts?page=1
I thought the story wasn’t as deep on the surface and relies too much on the lure. It was also short, but the gameplay is solid to me. The levels keep themselves the right size for 4 players and provide a different experience and environments to each. The campaign is linear yes but so have many of the previous HALO games, but there is a lot of combat from different sides. I miss making a more unique emblem, but there are plenty to choose from and unlock. HALO: Reach looked better though… I don’t even need to provide evidence for this. I loved HALO: Reach, but I don’t let that sway what I know about it’s graphics. Just look at HALO: Reach to HALO: 4 comparisons and then HALO: 4 to HALO: 5. Should be simple enough. They are different artstyles, but saying Reach looked better is well wrong.
HALO: 5 is doing well imo, but definitely needs to add/fix things to keep the community happy and interested (and buying req packs).

The only thing I’m disappointed in is that you only play with John-117 (Masterchief Petty Officer) for 3 MISSIONS, and the rest is Fireteam Osiris like wtf? It should’ve been half and half, or more missions with Masterchief. They better make Halo 6 better.
You haven’t finished a single game of arena, so why are you already judging the multiplayer?

because he can’t play with other accounts right?

Agreed.
Even I played many rounds of Arena and Warzone before rendering an opinion.
I didn’t have my hopes to high for it just in case it wasn’t as spectacular as the trailers said it was.

That’s so ridiculous, you’re telling me that he just happened to have two gold accounts just sitting around, and he played Halo 5 on a different account than the one he is using to type on a Halo forum. Seriously?
Yeah, while it does certain things right, it surely has its fair share of flaws and issues.
Chief sends his regards. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

Sad, but true,
OP isn’t the first, won’t be the last.
C ya!

I have two accounts. I only use this one to post on here since it’s tied to my main email, and I don’t like logging into my secondary just to post on here
The only thing I said about multiplayer was the customisation which is definitely a step backwards from Reach (I never played 4 online so can’t say if that was better than 5) but I don’t need to play it any more to know it’s bad, the entire core game and it’s mechanics are bad. As a veteran fan it’s just not Halo anymore to me. I’ll always replay 1-3 and Reach and ODST, continue reading the novels and absorbing all of Halo lore but the game series is crashing and burning from a technical standpoint and storyline. Another poster above disagreed with me about Reach looking better, but in terms of art direction and texture style I fully believe it does. 4/5 look plastic and painted. Honestly load up the level on 4 where you start in the infinity hangar bay, look at the pelicans and warthogs. If you tell me they look better than they did on Reach I’d say you’re lying or blind. I don’t recall enemies turning into pixelated mess from 30m in it either, or juddering about at range. Armour looked metallic too which was always nice. In 343 Halo metals, skin, and ground all look like they’re made of plastic and painted. Heck, even the grenade explosion effects in 5 are seriously poor. I’m not against innovation either but most of the changes have been poorly initialised (squad mechanics, pointless Spartan abilities, being broken out of iron sights when hit, missions that are basically interactive cut-scenes with no shooting!) they even went backwards imo by removing Armour abilities. 343i are not worthy of the mantle of responsibility they owe to Halo fans (pun intended). These aren’t thoughtless complaints either, there are many issues with the campaign and design of 343i Halo titles and they aren’t addressing them. Honestly do any of you think the very limited AI, personality bereft, bullet sponge, dull as dishwater prometheans or equally poor squad AI/dull as a stone characters (not including blue team members or Buck though their AI sucks bad) improves the Halo genus? Or the many contradicting nonsense plot devices? The story is just poor. Aside to the awful storyline let’s take a closer look at the characters, compare Osiris to NOBLE team who were incredibly interesting, varied, and unique; Locke and his team excluding Buck are boring and clichéd, Commander Sarah Palmer is outright irritating. Spartan IV’s? How the heck does Locke fight the Chief on an even keel?? How is Osiris shown to equal Blue team?? Spartan II’s are superior in every way not to mention the experience gulf here. Someone put a nail in the coffin above by saying the campaign is designed for co-op. That is so wrong! They shouldn’t ever take away from the solo experience, some people don’t like playing online and besides that it should work just as well in solo as a point of good design. This isn’t the end of Halo for me as I stated above, but it’s the end for me playing 343i Halo games. I’ll send you the chiefs regards as I play as him in the greatest Halo titles. Peace out guys.
I’m completely disappointed.I thought it would be a continuation of Halo, but in fact I was offered something like: Swallow Spartan Lock. Despite what was said in the media channels, who wrote the story, did not play Halo Reach, 1,2,3 and ODST, not nuzzled the maps, not lei the books, did not pay attention to what each Grunt or Elite complained during games , so little noted what was said during the aminated Scenes.
Halo Reach was necessary to explain the points involving Cortana probably in 6 Halo, Master Chief’ll be Ona prison while the new characters lead the game. I think someone in the 343 wants to boast that made a new hero, for me the character was disposable. Chief bring back. Enjoy to dismiss incompetent.
While I really don’t have a problem with Halo 5’s campaign, great areas for exploring, somehow once I got into the multiplayer maps I felt disappointed. I honestly don’t know how to explain them, they just felt really like, like maybe Halo: Reach maps smacked Halo 4 maps in the face and said “What’s up?”. (Of course, I’m not saying in the sense that Halo Reach’s looked better than 4’s because I’ve always felt each were getting better at least up to ts point, but rather Halo 5’s maps’s appearances being a result.) Just feels so much like they took a real step backwards and good, hard detail appearing rather compromised.
Story was promoted to the point of bullyoink. Fight the warden 5 times?.. why not just claim some lore (because the feel the need to explain every fart) about different wardens? Make each slightly different. Refresh each of the 20 bosses. No? Concentrate on 10 maps for two years. What a battery cow milking mess. Kill her slowly.
