-WAY too easily countered because enemies can spawn with two plasma grenades and a plasma pistol! Make them take 5+ plasma grenades/grenades to take down!!! (This applies to all types of warthogs)
-The machine gun is super weak compared to what it was in Reach. The vanilla warthog in Reach was really good, but in Halo 4 you can’t do successful drive-by’s anymore since the gun sucks so much now. It’s hilariously weak and bad.
-Increase armor not only against grenades, but also against bullets.
Ghosts - more armor against grenades and gun damage
Banshees: Make much faster, make them semi-immune to bullet damage (DMRs SHOULD NOT COUNTER THESE!), and more agile
Wraith: Faster turn distance, and more speed, and more resilient to grenade damage
CONCLUSION:
Since we can spawn with two plasma grenades and a plasma pistol, vehicles in Halo 4 are shortlasting and WORTHLESS. The only worthwhile vehicles are the Ghosts because of the splatters, their speed, and easy to dodge grenades and its guns are good vs.enemies.
Warthogs are completely useless.
Also the Mantis destroys the vehicle hierarchy in BTB games.
If you can get at least one kill per life with a vehicle, then that vehicle is worth something. Any time I get into any sort of tank, banshee, or ghost, I can virtually guarantee at least 3 kills by not being an idiot and trying to ram anything that moves (typically at least 5-8 with any given tank or banshee).
Ergo, not useless. Except the warthog, you need a good driver who gives people a semi wide berth with that.
While I can relate to only your hate of the Warthog’s weaker turret and man, the REACH Beta Hog was more pratical than this. In the beta it started off painfully slow and its fire rate will accelerate, but at least it kept its power. Now the hog’s MG in Halo 4 is both inaccurate and weaker than ever before.
I don’t like how the banshee feels so freakishly slow even with the boosters.
Everything else, no.
The mantis is ALOT more vunerable than the tank is in a team fight. The mantis’s only saving grace is its sheilds. A fully loaded tank can have the turret wipe out the mantis’ shields then kill it with a single tank shell. Where as the mantis needs more than 5 missiles and its chaingun to do either tank in.
All a banshee needs to do is stay away from the mantis and the mantis goes down with a few dual fuel rod bolts.
Get a good driver, a good gunner, and/or to fix EVERYTHING about that whole under power problem, get a passenger.
A passenger unlike the gunner can headshot people, use rockets, shotgun, EMP, grenades, and anything his 2 weapons and fists can do.
Agree with OP; the MG Warthog really needs a buff. It’s too easily destroyed what with DMRs, Plasma Grenades, and Plasma Pistols all over the place. All the vehicles should be returned to their Halo 3 status, where you actually needed weapons like the Spartan Laser and Rocket Launcher in BTB.
Increase Mantis’ health and remove the recharging shield (walking tank, in other words)
Simply remove the Gauss Hog, that thing was overpowered from the start of Halo 2.
The rest of your ‘improvements’? Hell no. Ghosts are already freaking bulletproof as it is, and the number of them in even normal matches gets annoying after about the millionth idiot who just runs around splattering everyone because it’s hard to take them out without stickies or plasma.
As with so many of the weapons in the game, trigger discipline is king. Don’t expect to hit the guy across the map with the WH turret if you’re blasting it full auto. Same go’s for the mantis’ auto cannon, the AR, the SR, the SAW (even the pistol and dmr), etc.
Also, please people, learn to drive. Warthogs don’t die (for the most part) if they are in constant motion. I don’t know how many times I’ve been a gunner and been screwed because the driver stopped to “give me a shot”- this goes especially for the gauss hog. If you stop, I miss, and then we blow up.
The Guass hog doesn’t need to be removed, it just need fair spawning- I’m looking at you exile (one team starts with a hog, a ghost, and a mongoose. The other ide starts with a hog, a guass hog, a ghost, and a mongoose.) The only reason the gauss hog is “OP” is because of those very same skilled gunners from Halo 2. I’ve seen some baddies in the turret, which turns the whole thing into a moving liability.

I’m gonna have to disagree about the DMR. It’s bullet spread recovers too fast and increases at an insignificant rate to where you don’t need to pace your shot at any range, at all. You can try on split screen or with a buddy at the grif ball court, have each other stand at opposite corners, and see for yourself, or you can do it on a larger map like ragnorok in forge, build a huge stand so that both of you can see each other at the very ends of the map and try there.
Anyway, if you take a warthog, then get a passenger(preferably with a headshot weapon, EMP or heavy weapon, AR is excellent too) so he can finish off anyone your gunner has weakened, don’t be a dummy who don’t know how to put the car in reverse, and learn how to drift. However without an operator driving the vehicle, your best bet of surviving in a warthog is to stay out of the enemy side of the map, so it reduces the likely hood of a single person lobbing 2 grenades onto you or EMP you. Since now it’s just getting plain obnoxious in almost every BTB you go into, more than 4 people has a plasma grenade and plasma pistol.
To increase your survivablity on the assualt, have another vehicle or someone who’s great at getting across places to cover you.
EDIT: And if someone volenteers themself to get into the passenger seat, then let them, more guns is alway better.
The vehicles dont need a buff. But i do think the frequency people get anti vehicle weapons needs to be reduced.
Im a pretty safe Warthog driver, and can stay far enough away from people that are chucking Plasma grenades or shooting over charged plasma pistols. But what i cant avoid is people getting Spartan Lasers or Rocket Launchers.
I dont necessarily mind them getting them if they earned it after 10 straight kills. But most of the time Half the enemy team has an Anti Vehicle weapon within the first 2 minutes of the game. And no matter how well you drive or gunner shoot, you will get destroyed within 30 seconds.
I agree with you all of the vehicles need buffs because one player can take on a vehicle like the warthog or ghost with ease due to the load outs and the warthog gun and turrets on other vehicles are way too weak, it even seems like a normal turret is more powerful. One of the things halo has always been good at is vehicle gameplay and i really enjoyed it on reach and halo 3 but its nowhere near as good on this game.
i was never some vehicle -Yoink!- in reach however i had a go every now and then
but whenever i get into a damn banshee the entire enemy team just takes me down inseconds with DMR fire
i think the best i’ve done is 5 kills in the damn thing before being killed…
also WTF? i’ve shot and shot ans shot a bashee with the sniper rifle to no avail yet i got in a brand new banshee (i was waiting for 30 seconds to see if it would spawn and it did) and i was taken out in TWO shots, completely destroyed without any other damage, what gives!
