Since Halo: Reach to Halo 4 and Halo 2 Anniversary MP, vehicles have had a separate health system, and I think this has negatively impacted vehicle-gameplay in Halo. In H2 and H3, vehicles were linked to player shielding, so if the driver was able to regain his/her shielding, the vehicle’s would be no worse for wear.
Unfortunately, vehicles have become much more vulnerable in the last few games, now that weapons in general do significantly more damage to them, I have personally noticed how vehicle-gameplay has suffered. Banshees and Scorpions getting permanently damaged by DMRs, Ghosts and Warthogs becoming death-traps; even in Campaign I’ve noticed my vehicle getting torn up pretty quickly, and once they’re damaged, there’s nothing you can do about it. Vehicle-gameplay has been less enjoyable in Reach, H4, and now in H2A, in my opinion. And I know I’m not the only one who feels this way, as it’s been addressed on the forums before,
To fix this problem for Halo 5, I think it would be wise to go back to H2/H3’s vehicle health system, or perhaps adopt a new system, perhaps recharging health like vehicles in Battlefield. Either that, or significantly reduce the amount of damage vehicles take from weapons.
Thoughts?
I never agreed how if I was in a tank I would still take damage from small arms. The whole point of all the armor is to protect against small arms fire!
I agree that something should be done about it. Honestly, the vehicles in Reach weren’t that bad. We used to own with the standard Hog in that game. H4’s Hogs were worthless, especially once the Gauss Hog was nerfed. There was no point in even using one unless you just wanted to drive somewhere really quickly. Part of that had to do with everyone having ordnance everywhere, but also the ridiculous effect small arms fire had on the vehicles.
When was the last time you played CE?Vehicles were indestructible in that game.

I meant the Ghost and Banshee, forgot about the indestructible Warthog and Scorpion.

Also that most players spawned with 2 Plasma Grenades.

True, but those two only had a health system in the Campaign. However, I do agree that H5’s vehicle health system should be similar to H2 and 3’s

I dislike Halo 2 Anniversary’s vehicle play. You die right away and the vehicle just is barely broken. The vehicle should shield you more, like Halo 4 and Reach.
I think the best solution is to keep the health separate and give the vehicles regenerating health on themselves. You could give it a health bar or make it so your shield bar represents the vehicle’s health and not your own. But at this point it doesn’t really matter to me, I hated the vehicles in Halo 3, but I think that had more to do with Halo 3’s gameplay than the system itself so I’d be willing to give it another chance. And I’m sure others would be to.

reach had damage levels, you’d go to the next damage level if you taken further damage than a certain point in your shield (about a quarter removed). so if your shield recovered and you got dropped past that threshold as you were recharging then the vehicles died quickly…on the flipside if you played it evasively enough you wouldn’t drop past the damage level (which is 10-11 shots btw) and you’d be invincible.
if you received damage until you dropped a damage level, then recharged your shields back and received damage like that again repeatedly until you die the banshee was a 45 shot kill, quicker if they didn’t recharge fully and dropped levels quicker. warthogs and falcons had 60.
i felt if the concept of the reach system remained but was adjusted it would be great. it lead to quite a vehicle skill gap.
the problems in reach was that the warthog was not strong enough and that it’s physics and handling were poor and it lacked the hornet and chopper…and that some maps were too elevated and all the spawns were low and in the open.
Yes please. Vehicle combat was at it’s best in Halo’s 2 and 3. Those were the games where you actually had to aim for the occupants of the vehicle rather than the vehicle itself. Vehicles were also reusable when the enemy had been shot out of them, instead of flaming piles of garbage. Small arms fire should not damage vehicle armor. Period.
Infantry shouldn’t be able to do everything off spawn. Go find some rockets or sticky grenades or another vehicle on the map if the enemy Warthog becomes a threat.
Dont take this offensively but u r wrong. I have a csr of 50 (i no its really easy) in btb and vehicles are extremely powerful. Banshee and tank control will often determine which team wins and all warthogs are very powerfull. the key for warthogs isnot driving like a hollywood movie fast and near enemies. you must drive cautiously and at FAR RANGE so pp and grenades are difficult to hit At a low skill levell ike urs u r unaware how to properly use vehicles it does not mean they r weak. im not tryon to be mean just telling the truth. I am justt he messenger

No, you are making an assumption about my skill level. A false assumption.
