How to get the vehicle mastery commendation completed:
First lets clear up the most common misconception about vehicles: the mongoose is not the strongest vehicle in the game in terms of health, it is by far the weakest. The reason people think it is stronger than other vehicles is because the drivers are very easy to kill. The mongoose provides the driver no protection so killing them off the goose is much easier than picking someone out of a warthog. That being said the mongoose is the most difficult sub commendation to master on this list, it is not impossible to get though – if you’re willing to do the work you can have a lot of fun going for it.
This guide will show you the easiest way to complete all of the requirements for vehicle mastery.

In order for vehicle kills to count the following things must be true:
[/li]- You must get a vehicle destroyed medal
- It must not be a kill from the grave
- The vehicle must start to explode BEFORE the driver starts to die
- Collisions do not count (ramming a vehicle with another vehicle)
- The last kill in a game does not count.
- You have to plant a nade if you board a wraith or tank - beating them down does not count
Banshee Destroyer- Go to Episode 3 Chapter 4 in Spartan Ops. There are 28 banshees to kill per game and you can get credit for them even if you play on easy.
Ghost Destroyer- Go to Episode 1 Chapter 1 in Spartan Ops. There are levels with more ghosts on them but 1-1 is the best place to kill wraiths, might as well kill two birds with one stone.
Mantis Destroyer- Play a bunch of BTB. Unlike a tank or wraith you can beat down this vehicle and have it count after boarding the vehicle. The best way to kill these off is to run to the closest cover you can find to them with a ghost or a mongoose and then use a plasma pistol to disable the vehicle. Board it, kill it, rinse and repeat.
Mongoose Destroyer- This commendation is actually not hard to get if you’re willing to put in the work and you don’t care about your K/D too much. You only need to blow up 165 mongeese - I got 15 yesterday without boosting. The trick is to drive around on a mongoose and get people to hijack you. If you are serious about doing this here is how you do it.
Have stickys and explosives on in your load out. Smack your mongoose 4 times, hop on and drive INTO the enemy base. Drive around in the enemy base and pick up the occasional mongoose splatter. When people come into a confined area they will be more comfortable attempting to hijack you, especially if you act like you cannot drive. You are going to want to get your orientation a little bit before lobbing off a grenade, but don’t take too much time or they will hop off your mongoose and kill the hell out of you. Bases and caves are great spots for this not only because your more likely to get someone to hijack you but because you are less likely to get killed from someone cross mapping you. Remember: You have to stay alive long enough to at least die together for this to count.
If you have access to rockets or the incineration cannon you can use them instead of stickies but you are helping the other team by doing so. driving your mongoose into a wall like you are lagged out is a great way to convince the other team that you are a very friendly person to hijack and they should do so immediately.
Scorpion Destroyer- You are going to want to hang out in BTB to get any of the UNSC vehicle commendations. Exile is the only place to get this one. Stickies and Plasma Pistol are a must. To kill the tank from range you’re going to want to suicide run at it and lob stickies cross map. Jet pack will insure you get two stikies off per life. If you manage to get close plasma pistol the damn thing and kill it with a nade plant only. Beating it to death is like beating a dead horse.
Warthog Destroyer- This one is easy. Be a cheap punk, Plasma Pistol the hell out of the thing and then throw two sticks. Most drivers are terrible and are too brainless to avoid this easy attack.
Wraith Destroyer- As stated earlier you want to hang out in Episode 1 Chapter 1 in Spartan Ops. Take one of the start vehicles and bum rush the unoccupied wrath at the beginning of the level. Once you get in the wraith killing ghosts and other wraiths is cake.
Wheelman- This is easy to complete. If you want to help a friend with the Wraith Destroyer or Ghost Destroyer take him into Episode 1-1 and grab the Gauss hog at the beginning of the level. You can rack up wheelmen in BTB by being a careful driver and staying back.
