Vehicle and sound design

The two big worries I have is the generic human weapons and the sound for the warthog. In Star wars you have the sound of an AT-AT’s footsteps, a Tie fighters screech, and Halo needs back the classic Warthog sound. I saw a comment on the youtube video that is sounds like a crappy Honda. I agree and think it needs a change. I enjoy the grunt throwing mechanic and the Ravager especially but I’m missing all the spikes for the brutes.

The warthog sounds nothing like a warthog and more like something from real life.

Sounds more like a Puma…

All jokes aside, I think it sounds alright. I keep saying, anything is better than Halo 4s lol. I do appreciate that it sounds like a real vehicle with clean audio.

If there was just a slight electronic whine mixed in, itd be awesome!

I’m torn about this. The orginal Warthog sound looks like you just turned on a vaccum cleaner or a kitchen blender, there’s not much nuance in REVs or gear changes. Now the new one sounds like a car with all the sounds a real car does, but is too much tamed, sounds like a Mongoose with not much power tbh. Needs more raw engine noise and we are good.

I agree with this idea it does need more power.

That is because warthogs are meant to have CVT’s, so there are no gear changes.

Ya sound design did absolutely nothing for me. The new weapons look and sound so generic military Sci fi and the hog wasn’t as distinct sounding as it has been. For all the new audio tech it did nothing to hype me. The scores beautifully reimagined though.

I want to say that sound design is still being optimised… but this was effectively an advertisement that was polished and we are only a few months from release.

The non-human weapons sound pitiful, like the terrible plasma pistol sound that is effective as was in Halo 5. When the Cheif walks through the water, he makes almost no sound.

On the whole though, I’m okay with the sound design presented.

343’s sound design philosophy is more towards keeping things fresh and realistic. They basically remake sounds every game hoping too capture us in the inviornment they create.

I love and dislike this personally. 343 puts so much time and effort into creating such powerful and well planned out sounds for everything, and yet it just misses the mark for me. I want to hear sounds that carry over from game to game, I want to commit those sounds to memory so that I could discern a weapon with my eyes closed.

Even more so I want 343 to create sounds that ring in our ears as ICONIC. To me, it feels like although the sounds are incredibly realistic and really put you in the moment if you have headphones, the sounds just don’t stick from game to game, and they can be forgettable. The saw gun doesn’t really have a sound in my memory, nothing gets jogged when I think of it being picked up.

I wish I liked the new sound design, I really wish I could put aside my feelings for wanting sounds to be consistent with guns, but it’s hard for me. I guess maybe I have an issue with how it’s not memorable.
