Vault - Sentinel Response

I’d like to talk about a feature I hate. Loathe, even. We have all played on the map Vault, no? How does everyone else feel about Sentinel Response? I mean… on every other map if you get map control the only person/people that can take it back from you is the other team. Not so much on Vault. The map can take itself back… and I think that feature needs to go. It’s a shame because the map is awesome. It has wide open fields, tight choke points, a middle of the map worth taking, etc.

But that damn response is such a pain. Thoughts?

As a note I will end on… I also think the map has no place in 1v1. Just too damn big. Anyways, I hope you all have a lovely Friday night.

Like a more reasonable response time from the sentinels would make the map much more liked and viable. Maybe a 10 minute response time would make the nodes more worth taking. As of now, I don’t even bother taking all the nodes. Before you even know it, they’re already taken back. That is a good topic. Maybe you should address new maps also? :wink:

I hate it too. I question if it’s even worth capturing the nodes in the first place.

That said, I don’t mind having it as a 1v1 map. It’s a little big, but the two-plot minibases are great for having a forward base.

Highway needs to leave 1v1 forever though…

definitely needs to be removed.
the thing is on vault you are forced to grab at least 2 because everyone doesn’t like to grab any of them. so if you have 2 you should get ahead.
just leave a marine to defend it.

Quite honestly I hated it at first but it is actually the only map where we can get a slight glimpse of what the game would be really like without power nodes.

Rushes in this map are very very punishable if held, that doesn’t happen as clearly in other maps.

So I think it is a very interesting mechanic actually, how something you despise can actually end up enriching gameplay.

Not to mention the terrain in this map offers the best variety in the whole map arsenal, it gets really tactical, especially how your “natural” is at such a disadvantage and your third is also between two high spots.

This map is big yes, but it also happens to have strategically well placed garrisons that can allow you to spot every single expansion plot in the map at the expense of a little of your pop.

I can safely say that it is my favorite map after Frontier.

I don’t mind it, I usually just farm them for freebie veterancies. What I don’t like is the inconsistency. Sometimes the timer will just sit at 0:00 and nothing happen. They only seem to show up on time for the first 2 spawns.

I like this feature personally. I mean, it is annoying but it reminds me of the “rebels” from HW1. Which is something I think this game needs more of. I like it because it adds a sense of “I have to defend this point instead of capture and never fortify”. I can see where they’re annoying though.

Agree, this respawn feature needs to go away.

I also love the map other than that. Especially the different levels of hight grounds in the middle.

I really hope the devs will attribute 2 veto that players can apply to maps. It will also help with balance inderectly since some maps are race biased.

my 2 veto will go to highway and vault. Or double veto towards highway just to get revenge on that awful map lol.

Vault and sentry are my two favorite maps because of how noticeable the high/low ground mechanic plays out there. I think we all agree that highway is the worst map in the game though

I like the idea of AIs roaming the map attacking either side, not so much taking it back.

I like the idea of sentinel response because it gives a chance for other players to re-take power nodes and it adds another dimension to the game play. I do think however there should be a few changes.
1- Increase the time before the next Sentinel response
2- Show the full time of when the next response is going to occur not the last 30secs
3- Sentinels only respond to neutral nodes
Or Sentinels only respond to 3 random nodes
Or Sentinels only respond to nodes in the middle of the map
Or Sentinels respond only to enemy nodes if you capture a control hub located in the centre of the map.
I feel this is what they need to make them less of a nuisance and more of a tactic. I also think they should add an option to disable them in skirmish options.

I think they were just trying to add some diversity into the maps other than the overall shape, but this mechanic is just plain annoying. People want weapons and powerups exclusive to the map that can turn the tide of battle. That’s what I’ve heard anyway, but I’m kinda ‘meh’ about it.

I think it would be cool if they made it universal to all maps, as well as makeing it take a bit longer between spawns so you would get it for a minute or two before you need to defend against them.

I like this feature so much that I want it to extend to not only all maps but also to minibuses.

This is one of those few features that I have a love/hate for, on one hand if I am up and have power nodes and it happens it pisses me off, does it shake up therapy and game? Yeah, which is the love factor because you could be losing and that response can back people off when it hits. As for the 1v1 factor, that maps too big for 1v1.
