Vast Open World that is EMPTY after the Story

Part of the reason the campaign feels so empty is because Marines can’t do anything.

Imagine climbing a hill and seeing a large scale battle with tanks, hogs, banshees, etc. A startled marine approaches and asks you to help push the Banished back. Then you learn the UNSC is trying to take a Forerunner structure as stronghold, opening up a side quest opportunity.

This can’t happen in Infinite because Marines can’t go anywhere. Stranded at FOBs and abandoned at the side of the road next to a perfectly functional Razorback.

They’re static NPCs

and if the marines can do anything the campaign still feels empty so on that part its chance notting.

i not know why 343 has choose to make in halo infinite campaign that the marines cant do anything like enter a mission with you or drive any vehicles.
on the drive any vehicles i can only tell what i think why there have remove it.
is more that back in the halo 3, halo reach and halo 4 people have complain more about that the marines are compleet useless at all in the campaign mode from then.
that there cant do the easy thing like evade when there get shot but only standing still and shoot back when on legendary difficulty.
thats the only thing i can think about why there have remove it.

i know its easy to tell to inprove then but thats something only 343 knows why there not have done it.
and like that there are a lot off other things only 343 knows and what the communety wane know why there have done it its not only about why cant the marines drive anything in halo infinite its with a lot off stuff the communety members have questions about and only 343 knows then.

that you have questions about the marines can drive or cant do anything for 343 why there have choose for that is the same as for me like why do we have force crossplay and not a option system or why has halo infinite campaign mode no long therm contant that you can do after you compleet the story missions.

honestly to me their main purpose is more or less just world building or just a distraction while you take out enemies. we are fighting a war after all. infinite doesn’t make me feel like a soldier fighting a war like the previous games did, it feels more like im some fantasy adventurer which is not what i’m looking for.

but the older halo games have a compleet difrend setting at all.
there you go from mission to misson setting.
and in infinite you have a open world setting.

the part is more that 343i has not look at other open world game’s like GTA or Zelda from what a open world setting needs to have more.
that there not need to think about the main story line only but at other elements also te open world needs to have.

like things players can do after there compleet the main story line.
that there retake the destroy bunkers again you have destory and make then active again.

halos always had tons of wide open missions, infinite isn’t that different, actually the real difference is the story, past halo games usually put us right in the middle of the action, while infinite feel like we’re starting at the end. they also felt this stupid story be better told through dumb audio logs and holograms when it would’ve been more fun if chief was there to experience them first hand.

your right 343 clearly didn’t do research on how to make a proper open world, heck they could’ve just looked at past halo games too. they didn’t need to make an open world halo game they just need to make a bigger halo than 5, which they failed at. why the hell would you want the bases to be taken over again this game already has a problem repeating the sameold crap.

Sadly, this does seem to be the problem with open world games in general. Once you complete the main quest and the side quests, the world feels fairly empty. By the time you unlock the ability to call in wasps and scorpions, there’s not much left to really use those vehicles against. I think having random generated events after you’ve completed everything like a Banished attack on one of the FOBs you secured or the Banished attempting to retake one of the outposts you took out could help, but I don’t know how satisfying a solution that would be long term. “Oh hey, I gotta retake FOB Charlie, AGAIN, for the 6th time.”

343 released a half completed Halo game that required another year and more of polish and fixes, so I highly doubt they would be able to program AI to actually drive competently lol Look at the Bots they have in Infinite right now… they pick up the Oddball or Flag and run out into the open like mindless cannon fodder or they don’t pick it up at all and die anyways.

I’ve always tried to get Marines to drive for me because I prefer being the gunner(unfortunately, I’m usually stuck driving because the AI is bad). Marines aim at anything, sometimes you need them to shoot more important targets but they are focused on some Grunt behind a rock while an Elite or Brute is pummeling your Warthog. Ally AI and Enemy AI feels like it has barely changed since the old days, instead of making them smarter or have some actual tactics to their combat, 343 just raised their shields/health and added damage multipliers.

ow really why do’s it feel like that all the other halo game’s you most folow always the same road to compleet the mission.
its on in halo reach with 1 mission what is compleet random but thats all the other halo game’s from halo CE T/M halo 5 campaing’s have always a road you most follow and no freedom at all from let me take this way is for a turn no you cant since there is always a barrier or clif.

what about halo 2 first mission then?
halo 4 first mission?
halo reach first mission?
halo CE first mission?

i still go for the open world then the mission for mission crap since its getting more old to always have mission for mission for mission.

in the open world you can do a lot off things the only thing there have done wrong is to add stuff like that there take the bunkers back under there controle or do something with the space ships that are in the sky and doing notting.

i got a blast in the halo infinite campaign mode for a couple off month’s to do all sort off crazy things in the campaign mode.
the last time i got a blast was in halo reach in the xbox 360 day’s since it got the challance system to get CR points to unlock armor or effect parts for your spartan.

i said they were wide open i didn’t say they were non-linear, actually infinites are the most boring linear missions i’ve played in a halo it’s crazy. you know halo 5 has mission with diverging pathways and breakable wall that hide them too, it’s no open world but the main mission are still more exciting. im also talking about the whole game, all of infinite feels like such minor event in the whole game series like they shouldn’t have made it at all, and tries to bait us with stuff like “oh the infinity is destroyed, banished won, atriox dead, cortana dead, a species that some how survived the halos” all this in one game it’s like, what the hell!? i dont mind the point A to B missions as long as their filled with tons of different stuff to do, whats the point of having an open world if it’s the same old rinse and repeat trash.

the missions self in halo infinite are not boring at all.
some of then you can do things you normal not can in any halo game at all.
by fighting the 3th boss with the scorpoin tank or the second boss fight go compleet crazy by using a razorback or warthog with marine’s that the boss gets defeat by marine’s and not the spartan.
sure i have more crazy idea’s i wane try in the campaign mode from halo infinite like Elite Bloodblade vs Chak 'Lok or Diminisher of Hope VS bassus on legendary and see witch is stronger in a Hammer vs Hammer fight and Energy Sword vs Energy Sword fight.
same if there bring the assassinations back in halo infinite that there can be use in the campaign mode also then some people wane sure test then out if its working on some off the boss’s in the campaign mode.

the campaign is not boring at all if you think outside the box and go is crazy by doing things you normal never can do at all.

ok what about the rest of the missions, most of them feel like long empty hallways that go on for may to long, kinda hate that they’re mostly use forerunner designs because alot of it starts looking the same and really plain with this “new” art style. so your solution to boring boss fights is make them more boring with op weapons? boss fights are so stupid in halo anyway, turn normal enemies into bullet sponges, what fun. you know what i wish 5 had something like this, the varient weapons you could use in warzone were really awesome, would’ve been cool to use more of them in campaign, well then the whole game would be cake but still would’ve been cool.

I swear. The story with Fireteam Taurus sounds cool af. Spartan Kovan literally flies an ODST drop pod THROUGH a phantom. And instead of rendering that as a cutscene we only get to listen to it and use our imaginations like it’s Audible some s***.

Actually ODST did the same thing Infinite did. Except instead of showing the cool stuff in flashbacks and audio logs, they let you relive the events firsthand.

that’s what im talking about, i actually think the audio logs sound like a much more interesting story that i would’ve loved to play through like the fall of the infinity and whatever big battles went on after the banished attacked it. i think infinite would’ve been alot better if they went the odst route and had flash back missions, actually i think the better solution would’ve been a more cohesive story and game between 5 and infinite, it feels like i missed out on a pretty big event and i hate it.

I’m surprised they didn’t do that since ODST was the trailblazer of Halo open worlds and people seemed to like that game, in my expert opinion. Heck they could’ve even pulled a CE. You find the dead spartans, plug in and relive their final moments. Could’ve even teased the Jega bossfight.

Yeah this time skip stuff is getting old. Complete the campaign and the next has nothing to do with the last. I appreciate them trying to scrub themselves clean of H5, but just ignoring everything may not have been the best idea. I mean H5 ends with Cortana taking over the galaxy and infinite begins at the end of that.

its not boring at all since i wane try new things out if its working or not.
since in halo infinite the only thing i am doing is thinking out side the box and wane try a lot off stuff out and see if its working or not.

there are threads to ask if Warzone from halo 5 can make a return again and add weapons we have in halo infinite in it,
like the campaign boss weapons version’s and the other weapon variants you can get in the campaign mode.

same with some game type’s for the matchmaking like griftball that you fight with the Elite Bloodblade and Diminisher of Hope then the basic hammer and Energy Sword you get there.
same with the weapon variants for the matchmaking.

there have been all a lot off idea’s been suggest for in the campaign and matchmaking more like that the halo wars and halo wars 2 vehicles most join the matchmaking and campaign mode.

there are all idea’s been suggest for the campaign mode more idea’s for the long therm then let you keep playing the campaign mode still after you compleet the 14 missions that it not get bored.
like boss raid system, that the banished retake some FOB’s back and you most retake then, something with the banished space ships like enter then and destroy then.
or that the banished restore the destroy bunkers and make then active again but its more stronger defence then before so its what harder then normal to destroy then.

after some month’s the game has launch there are a lot off idea’s to make the campaign mode more fun to play.
and we all agree that the campaign needs long therm stuff to keep it fun to play it since now its after the 14 story mission to boring fast.

i wouldn’t call just simply using a variant weapon against an enemy “outside the box” i think anything they put in the game is meant to be used by all but it depends on how we use them, like that vehicle launching trick, thats real outside thinking! i assume once we get mission replay everone will be able to use the variant weapons they’ve collected through the game on enemies they previously couldnt use them on, totally stupid this game didn’t launch with that, hell i’ve played some rpgs with a level/chapter select but 343 of all games decided it could wait in Halo? they’re are really screwing them selves over. halo 5, like it or not, was 343 most successful game breaking records such “biggest halo launch” and “fastest selling xbox one game” the only thing i hear infinite broke was its big budget at $500 million!!! they had all this time and money and what do they show for it? a big steaming pile of crap.

I want the Open world to feel “alive” after you beat the campaign. Like the banished strongholds get re-fortified and they start taking back FOB’s periodically. if you are logged in while the FOB is under attack you can save the marines. Any time they take a FOB or re-fortify a different set of enemies takes control. one time it could be hunters and grunts at a FOB another time maybe sentinels and brutes. If there were just 4 sets of enemies that rotated, then it would add some variety and make the map (and the “war”) feel alive.
I obviously don’t know what it would take but i feel like implementing this would be easy and provide more post-campaign replayability.

i was more hoping that there follow the zelda breath of the wild open world more that open world setting.
that you get a lot of freedom more in halo infinite campaign mode after 2 missions more that you are free to go to any other place and not have to follow the main story at all.
like a lot of side missions and a lot off other things to do.

was it not there spent round 500 mill dollar for the halo infinite game in general and most of that money has gone to the campaign open world development from halo infinite?

OP

They had to cut most of the campaign and clearly initially intended for a Destiny style story where they would quickly follow up on it. This leaves the campaign ending with very little actually accomplished. Like I heard map was meant to be anything from three to ten times in size.

Also, it’s a mystery box campaign in which many things are left unanswered and key players have not been introduced:

  • What exactly makes Zeta Halo unique. Is it Time Travel? Is it a prison for the Precursors? Are we in the Matrix and Cortana went Wandavision?

  • To quote a canon fodder article the state of the Galaxy is deliberately being left ambivalent. They remind you that Cortana had this Empire, occupied Earth, the Elites and yet they do not provide this information.

  • The Endless. Why introduce a faction and not tell you what they are?

  • Cortana. I don’t think they were entirely honest regarding that. There’s a few odd things said and that happen that go unaddressed. How are we possibly being rail roaded if she’s dead, how are doors opening for us and the story is very sus.

  • Atriox and Offensive Bias. You have us kill two throw away villains and then tease the actual bad guys.

It would be like if Halo CE had ended with at the Control Room being told “OMG there’s something terrible out there”. Which is fine if they did a Destiny 2 and we see the looming threat of the Darkness arise in DLC. But we haven’t.

we all know there is a big cliffhanger on the halo infinite story line we have now.
that all the points you call has to do with the story line i can understand good and we maybe see it then in the DLC’s from the campaign.

but still you need to have something else that has notting to do with the story line also in the campaign mode.
story line only is not going to work at all in a open world setting.
look now its so boring after you compleet the last story line mission and the open world has become more empty with it also then before.

and here is more a question i have for you.
do you think that the campaign mode we have now that after compleeting all the story line missions, destroy all the bunkers, destroy all the towers, kill all the HVT’s and save all the mariene’s + power ups.
that this will be good and enjoy for a 10 year live span game?

or do you also agree there compleet miss the point about the open world setting that there forget to add something else in it what has notting to do with the story line at all to keep it fun and that people enjoy it also for the 10 year life span it has.
