Variants are a disappointment and 343 is lazy

So many aspects of halo 5 are simply lazy and sloppy.
Here is a prime example

When it was announced that halo 5 was going to have vehicle and weapon variants i was pretty excited.
I was thinking of up armored ghosts and vehicles with unique exciting ability and traits.

I was thinking needler ghosts, ghosts with energy shields protecting the driver compartment, scorpions with spartan lazer turrets or anti infantry autocannon turrets, anti air wraiths, wraiths with huge plasma gattling cannons, wraiths with a needler turret instead or a plasma cannon turret.
Mantises with two rocket arms, mantises with railgun arms…
I was thinking vehicles that had heavier armour but drove slower
vehicles with less armor but were faster
you get the idea

What we got was this generic tire system for each faction (normal - corp - oni, normal - sword - ultra), following the same formula (normal, more armour, more armour + a better weapon)
This is lazy! Your telling me that in 3 years of development 343 couldnt come up with some cool unique ideas like the ones i listed above?

To add further insult variants dont even look different. They have a different paint job and thats it.
Where are the heavyer armour plates to represent the vechile having more armour?
Where are the bigger guns to show the vechile has a higher damage output ect…
Are you telling me if i paint somthing a different colour it will function differently…
This is lazy.

The same can be said about weapon variants, changing the colour of somthing is lazy.
Change the look of it to demonstrate the change to it…
The saw with a higher ammo capacity… give it a bigger magazine
the rocket that fires 3 rockets per shot, give it 3 barrels… you get the point.
3 years on development and 343 couldnt even change the weapon models slightly… Lazy

We have the Hannibal scorpion but I see your point though

Phaeton helios. Hannibal Variants. Sword Hog.

I see your point, but at the same time, it hasn’t all been just complete rehashing.

Well, I play Arena, and it’s fantastic, so I’m reading this all like “variants”? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Warzone sucks.

I know that’s beside your point, but I’m not a fan of the call of laziness just because something doesn’t live up to your standard. Especially if it’s a bunch of dumb over-powered unbalanced weapons and vehicles in a stupid farm-fest K/D padding mode of nonsense. If I get the best Slayer and BTB (you know, Halo stuff) since Halo 3, then I’m not going to cry over the lack of a skin for a variant for a rocket launcher only for a mode I may play three times a month at most.

Yeah I was pretty disappointed as well with the lack of a “WOW” factor from the vehicle variants. It’s just like with the different Hog skins. Yeah no one really cares about different hog skins because the things don’t survive long enough for anyone to even notice.

You’re content with the arena maps we currently have? That’s one of the biggest push factors for me.

To be released in hog wild. https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/community/blog-posts/canon-fodder-tales-stingers

Hog with shielding, and fires needles instead of chaingun.

Its not lazy… Its just 343 paying more attention to h6. (that game has been in dev b4 h5)

It’s all about the question of balance. Everything you listed would be overpowered unless it was top tier. And we already have top tier differences.

As for only paint jobs being on the weapon, I’m fine with it. Because if not, we’d look at them as different weapons, not variants and people would want them in Forge and Arena.

Well the art department kind if sucks especially when they made all the armor look like ever generic scifi armor ever made.

Yeah, they’re not that great. Better than most of Reach’s maps, but not as good as anything Halo 2 or 3 had. Even Halo 4 had better maps.

Saw a post on reddit about halo coming to pc in the future. Wether it’s true or not i think 343 is struggling even now.

I agree OP, I have to say though Armor “variants” are a much greater offense in terms of laziness. At least the weapons do cool stuff like shoot 3 rockets and create black holes etc, The armor “variants” literally have an extra white stripe here and there. The ONLY good variant is Mark VI scarred because it actually changes the armor model.

I agree.
The white markings wouldnt be a problem if 343 gave players a ‘tertiary color’ option for customization, where you could make it any color you wanted.
haha I guess thats too hard though -_-

speaking of reskins/variants…i ahve a question about the unsc vehicles.

Correct me if im worng but if i boil down the multitude of variants for human vehicles to a 3 tier system like the covenant, would the follwoing be accurate??

  • tier 1: base model, corp model
  • tier 2: urban, tundra, woodland models
  • tier 3: ONI model

So basically its fine if i keep one type of each tier and sell the rest right? cuz basically there isnt much difference between the urban, tundra and woodland vehicles???

The corp model is on the same level as the urban, tundra and woodland. The base model is the weakest. The corp and camo ones are the second tier and oni is third tier

ah kk…i have so many reskins of the 2nd tier of unsc vehicles…could just sell them all and get some req points…

No actually Corp has slightly better armor than base while urban/tundra/woodland have slightly better armor than Corp
