Vague Wording in Updates, example included.

I have a problem with the liberal use of vague wording in your updates.
Mainly because it is a common tactic to lead people to a conclusion, without expressly stating such is true.

Early updates included my favorite words: ‘many’, ‘some’, ‘improving’, ‘sometimes’.

11/13 1:28pm Update 'We are aware that while some users are reporting improved Matchmaking experiences, many users have not seen an improvement.'

Now can you see how that creates the illusion of telling me something, without telling me anything?
How big is ‘some’? What is the size of ‘many’? Is ‘many’ > ‘some’?

11.15 7:00 PM Update
’Looking at our data logs, server-side adjustments that we have made over the past 24 hours have shown a 20% increase in server connectivity. However, we are well aware that performance is not where it needs to be, and have a content update on the way.'
A 20% increase, well that sounds terrific! So that must mean you’re at 80% or 90% connectivity, right? Well, wait, what if that is 20% of 20%? They you’ve just got 25% server connectivity.

I understand the reason to use comparative adjectives without explicitly defining the comparable object. However, I was hoping that wasn’t the case.

You’re a better person. (see what I did there?)

I do think it’s a bigger deal than what they have expressed.

They’re going to say something vague/general because they don’t want to make promises on something that they won’t be able to deliver on. Now before you start saying they promised to deliver an amazing game I’m talking about the current situation that we’re in. You’re just sad because they didn’t tell you what you wanted to hear.

I feel like i should be quoting George Orwell

Yeah the wording is really vague because they don’t know what the problem is, I mean from what I can see with any research I’ve done 343i worked on the networking, Certain Affinity handled the Campaign of H2A, Ruffian Games handled the ports of Halo 3/4 (my assumption is Certain Affinity worked on the port for H:CEA) and United Front Gaming created the pretty menu wrapper. So all up from what I can tell, 343i just handled the networking and made a complete screw up of it, I don’t think it will be fixed on wednesday, hell I don’t think the next patch will help. I mean for all the people out there saying “I’m getting a match every 2-3 minutes”, great for you, I would love to get games that often, I can’t even get games once an hour. I have a Open NAT, I have a fibre connection, 100/40. I’ve played multiple games screwed on launch but this is something else entirely. Lot’s of things in relation to the networking don’t work. I can’t party with friends. I can’t party with room mates. 3 people in the same household can’t party, something is screwy to the maximum degree, I mean you could justify and say they’re working on Halo 5 aswell but this isn’t the first time 343i have dropped the griffball. Halo 4 had terrible matchmaking issues (may have just been australia) but I remember the launch being pretty terrible. Rant over.

EDIT: I also took time off work to play this, pretty big mistake.

Welcome to public relations.

Yeah, they don’t want to be nailed down to anything because the list of issues is so large that they really have no ideal when they will be able to get the game working properly. This game wasn’t ready for launch, what 343i/MS did was not cool. They need to do a better job communicating with us.

I took time off as well. I just don’t think I’ll be doing any more. I’ve had the game since launch and haven’t played a single multiplayer game, not one!

I would love to know what was going on internally with these companies to get a result like this.
