To me in future halos we should see the UNSC using older tech to help fix the post alien war conflict.
I know it may sound stupid but older tech like old weapons and vehicles most likely were put in storage houses as a way to keep them safe or out of peoples hands. We do this in modern times with things like flint locks and other weapons we no longer need. Heck the Military base over here has 10 storage houses with a ton of old weapons and planes (mostly planes) that are way out of date.
So Here is what I have so far
Weapons
MA Assault Gun:Nick named the Butchers Blast This gun was one of the very few to ever be given a bayonet in a modern day time. Using small pencil like bullets and burst fire shots its seen as a good weapon. It was mainly used to shut up small time rebellions as it was soon found out to not pierce high standard armor. A Later update to the bullets made it better for war but its bayonet was the scariest part about it. When sqeezeing the handle of it the knife would go further then the barrel. However The bayonet never finished the job and always needed to stab several times giving its nickname. Just a year after being made it was replaced but there were tons made and put in storage houses. Blueprints of the gun were later used in future guns.
Vehicles
Ogre:Large amounts of cyclops were found on earth after the war ended that had not been used in a long time. There use was large to rebuild or take down structures but the military saw another use for them. By replacing the Hammer Jack with 2 spinning machine gun turrets. While few were given this upgrade because many were needed for the rebuilding there seen as a huge asset.
