Reach is soon to be on life support, and its pretty clear the game is filled with nothing but casuals and children(see:the living dead playlist). The competitive aspect of this game has been almost non existent for a while now, and the majority of the players who looked to Halo as their go to shooter on XBL have moved on to a different game. These players will not come back with CEA playlist.
Even if they do get CEA, they’re going to play the campaign, feel that magic of playing as Master Chief again, then try the Reach MP and be reminded of how horrible it is, and why they stopped playing.
If 343 had revamped CE’s MP and released it, the game would have garnered MUCH more attention and be able to pull a much larger portion of the XBL user base back to Halo. CE MP on xbl is something people have been asking for since Halo 2 was released, much more so than a graphically updated version of the campaign for the xbox 360.
I understand revamping the MP to work on XBL would indeed be a difficult task, but if they can put co-op online, and there is already a working network model for PC version, I don’t see how much more difficult it would have been to do it for CEA.
I applaud 343’s efforts and am glad they are taking the steps to make Reach feel more like a real halo game, but in all honesty, its futile. The scale of the game is not like a halo game, and the sandbox revolves around the changes that moved Reach away from the core Halo experience.
All in all, I view this as a major blunder and something a lot of fans are going to be disappointed about. Even though CE’s MP was a late “spin off” addition to the original game, the meta game quickly became a competitive phenomenon and basically spawned the foundation of competitive console gaming as we know it. Letting this go, without even giving it a chance, is a huge missed opportunity,
i agree dude i honestly dont no why im still playing reach multiplayer. I REALLY HATE IN ANY PLAYLIST HOW IM ALWAYS ALWAYS PUT IN A GOD DAM MATCH WITH IDIOTS WHO DONT NO CRAP AND IDIOTS THAT QUIT ON YOU LEAVING ONLY ME TO FEND OF A TEAM OF HARDOUT MLG PLAYERS AND I DONT EVEN TOUCH THE MLG PLAYLIST…
I HATE IT I HATE IT WITH A PASSION but yet i still play funny that.
It continues to average around 100,000 players at peak time. That to me, is hardly life support, given the current state of the video game playerbase.
The idea is that a) Halo: CE multiplayer simply wouldn’t be the same over live.
b) There’s no need to fragment the playerbase.
c) The system is the best of both worlds. You want clssic, you get classic. You want Classic with new, you get that.
It’s the right decision, if perhaps not a popular one.
Here we go again…
> the game is filled with nothing but casuals
Really? …Really? Didn’t realize you had to be a hardcore gamer to play on the 360. But I digress…
Anyway, if I remember correctly CE didn’t have MP on the Xbox (correct me if I am wrong…nicely please). This is a remastered version of (I assume) the Xbox version. Frank already stated that they did not want to split the playerbase.
And not all of us hate the Reach MP. I like Reach and the remade maps look beautiful.
Though I respect your opinion, I disagree.
Reach as great multiplayer. Although yes it takes lack serious competitiveness for the most part. But it’s still great. CEA multiplayer will be really fun as well. I’m happy.
OMG… How many times does 343 have to explain?
-
They didn’t want to fragment the Reach player base, and before you say, “H4l0 3
H4S A L46g3R P0pU14TioN!”, I play both alot, and only ONCE have I seen the Halo 3 player count higher than Reach.
-
They didn’t have the time. CE wasn’t coded for Xbox Live, can you imagine how long it would take to code it to make it WORK for Xbox Live? 343 would probablt have to delay CEA for awhile.

Absolutely, 100% agreed on all of this. Frank O’Connor has said many times that not only was there a lack of time and resources to recreate the original CE experience and transfer it to Xbox Live, but even if they DID do it, everyone would hate it. Playing a LAN game with your friends is completely different than playing it over Live with random people. It would’ve ruined the experience for everyone, especially those who were so religious to CE’s multiplayer.
And there is no need to divide the playerbase. Especially with games such as BF3 being released tomorrow, MW3, Assassin’s Creed and such being released within the next month. Reach is still the CURRENT Halo game. There’s no point of spending money on new servers for a remake when they could easily alter the settings of the current game to match or closely mimic the original.

It may not be on life support but it soon will be with the release of other mainstream shooters coming out. Also, pure numbers don’t matter. Reach is leagues behind Halo 2 and Halo 3 were at this point in their lifespan is you consider how large of a percentage of the population its retained. Halo 2 was the number one XBL game until the original XBL was shut down, and Halo 3 was the top game for two years. Reach couldn’t hold the top spot for a month.
a) CE multi player on PC feels just fine to me. The networking model is already established.
b) There’s really no difference in fragmenting the game within its playlists, and fragmenting it between two games.
c)“Classic” reach will never play like CE. As I said, the entire sandbox is designed around bloom, aa’s, different shield mechanics, etc. Plus the entire scale of the game is smaller.

On the 30th Anniversary you can complain about not have multiplayer, until then deal with it. Lucky for me I can LAN Halo CE 5 times a week with 10+ other people so I do feel a bit bad for other peoplewho can’t as much.
What’s so bad about upgrading Team Classic?
The reason people didn’t play Classc was because of the gray maps, the bloom and the lack of melee bleedtrhough, now that we got the TU and the Classic maps, Team Classic is gonna be awesome.
> when they could easily alter the settings of the current game to match or closely mimic the original.
Making one weapon replicate its CE version, removing bloom, and adding bleed through damage, does not make Reach play like CE.
The sandbox is still completely different(grenades, melee lunge, plasma rifle stun etc), the scale of the game is just wrong, and all the nuances and glitches(nading powerups, quick camo, backpack reloads etc) that added depth to the meta game aren’t there.

You obviously don’t understand that Reach’s engine is EXTREMELY flexible. It can VERY easily be manipulated to match CE’s gameplay, as you can see with the title update. ALL the things you mentioned can be changed to fit CE’s gameplay.

no one has said that these are the only three things being changed for the Anniversary playlist. why you would assume that makes no sense to me.
I have to disagree. The change in gameplay will bring back some actual Halo fans.
I disagree. What should 343 do? Make Halo CEA have it’s own MP? That would be an awful idea. Reach isn’t exactly on life support if you look at the numbers. Sure the population is declined, but the game is over 1 year old.
Having the new maps in Reach will give Reach a nice injection for population and still keep the people it has.
Honestly, I must disagree entirely. I still play Reach’s multiplayer, and so do about 100,000 other people. I’m psyched for the new maps and modes coming with CEA, for the new experience with Reach and some nostalgia with the maps from CE. I, for one, shall be having a blast this November 15th.
Can I possibly add anything more than the fine people above me have already stated for just how much I disagree… I think not.
1: The game isn’t out yet. You are in no place to judge how much “Attention” it has gotten.
2: 343i THOROUGHLY EXPLAINED why they couldn’t just revamp Halo CE’s multiplayer. It has mostly to do with trying to apply a netcode to a game that only supported LAN networking. Which is a perfectly legitimate issue (looks at failed past games they tried to bring to xbox live like Perfect Dark).
3: MOST players haven’t gotten a chance to try TU, and on that note. Noone has had a chance to try the new “Halo CE Magnum” they made specifically for the new Team Classic.
So until the game comes out, players go live in the new TU-enhanced playlists, and realize that Team Classic is TOTALLY epic. Don’t try to act like you’ve crunched numbers on Halo Anniversary’s popularity.
