So when I first got Halo 5 a little over a year ago, my favorite part of the game was that every single weapon had it’s use. When I say every weapon, I mean every weapon.
Battle Rifle: Almost everyone’s tool of destruction on the Halotracker stats at the time, now is one of the most ignored and useless weapons on the map. The magnum shoots farther, more accurately, and has a faster time to kill. I used to praise the H5 battle rifle as being the best one in the series; now not so much.
SMG: Before I used to get at least three or four kills with the SMG on a map that had one. It served it’s purpose as a close range weapon that could be better than the AR at closer ranges. Now, you’re pretty much seen as a joke if you pick it up. The spread is insane and the damage reduction was uncalled for.
Storm Rifle: Much like the SMG, I used to always pick it up when I could and tear enemies apart at close range. In my opinion, it was far from unbalanced since the respawn time was short and both teams had equal access to them. Now you’ll be lucky if you can even get the enemy’s shields down before they 4-shot you with the pistol.
Gunfighter Magnum: Not that I used this weapon a lot, since there are barely any on any maps, but when I did use it it was fun and I actually felt like I had an advantage over the normal magnum at close range. Now, it’s pretty much the most non-picked up weapon in the game. Why would anyone use it if you already spawn with a weapon way more powerful?
Assault Rifle: Honestly, I really don’t feel like I need to explain this one. It doesn’t even feel like a machine gun anymore. Just some weird gun that fires bullets in an almost perfectly straight line. Awkward, weird, and just pointless.
My biggest problem with Halo 3 was that there were so many weapons on the map that nobody in the right mind would pick up because their time to kill, accuracy, firing rate were all inferior to the Battle Rifle and Assault Rifle. Turns out Halo 5 is the same way now in which everyone either uses a pistol or power weapon. It’s really a shame.
