USED Banned Consoles

Greetings all,

I came across a thread a while back that dealt with someone buying a used console that was perma banned from the Halo servers. My questions:

As I am looking to add another console or 2 in my home, is there someone I could contact to verify that the console is not banned (identify by MAC address, System ID, whatever)?..Before I buy of course.

Also, with the pending release of Halo 4, and the transfer of the franchise to 343, will console bans be ‘forgiven’ possibly?

Finally, I assume that if the console was also banned from XBox Live, then I could contact Microsoft?

I guess I am looking for some sort of system ‘check’ to ensure that the hardware is good to go for both Halo play and Xbox Live in general (bonus if there was a Master list for all games a Console was banned on).

Thanks in advance to the community. Sorry if I posted this in the wrong Forum.

My best solution for you would be contact both Xbox Live Support and 343 industies, try sending bs angel a pm and see what/if you get anything. Perma banns are hard to get unless you do something that Really deserves it.

Buy a Refurbished Xbox…

Dunno if that helps

The only way to clarify it fully is if you buy brand new consoles off the bat, don’t buy pre-owned ones.

Never buy preowned consoles o_O

Buy new. I would never consider buying a used 360 with how fragile they seem to be.

If you purchase a console through someplace like GameStop, and you find it is banned, you can return it.

I would think you could get them to fire it up and test it while you are there.

If there is any way to confirm that a console is perma banned from Halo servers before you can’t return the console to where you got it, do that.

Don’t listen to the others, I had a refurbished Xbox for two years. No red rings at all, hardly any freezes.

I would bet you could speak to the retailer pre-sale and and either have them verify themselves. If they are unable to test (A highly unlikely scenario) attempt to prearrange that Reach needs to be able to play online as a pre-requisite of the sale, if they refuse, take your business elsewhere.

Welcome to Waypoint =)

Welcome to the forums.

Firstly not to talk smack, but; Xbox live customer service blows badly on those regards.

But a simple fix to this problem is a receipt.

Always keep your receipt and return said product if it doesn’t work.

I’m assuming you mean buying from craigslist or something like that. If it’s off a random person, be sure wherever u meet to be near a tv/internet to hook it up. Test xbox live then also test halo reach mm. That’s the only way to be sure, otherwise unless it’s a fantastic deal just go to gamestop. About $175 for refurbished which is the same as new/prob had some parts replaced or what not or $200 for new 4gb blk slim. You can always buy a xbox flash drive if need more space down the road/ only $19.99.

You know what, scratch what I just said because I just remembered something. My friend gave me his xbox when he moved away. It worked fine online for a few months, then one day was banned. Turned out there were mods from back in the day that an update to live picked up. So I had to go buy a new one.

Bottom line you have to get a refurbished or new one because you won’t know if its been modded recently or not. Could work fine but as soon as an update comes out you could be out of luck.

GameStop gives people a week to return used games for any reason, and a month to exchange it for a working one if it doesn’t work. I’m assuming they have a similar policy with consoles.

Better to just buy new. All you do in buying pre-owned is inherit someone elses problem. Also check places for clearance consoles. Many retailers mark down the special edition ones like the Gears 3 or MW3 consoles since they are stuck with them. Then you get a game and extra controller out of it.
