Us as a community:

Hi everyone, I think I talk for a lot of people when I say that this is one of my very first moments in this exact halo forum.
Since a few years, I’ve always been thinking about this one topic but never spoke it to anyone else, but I feel like this could actually cause some talk in this forum and it would be amazing to see your guys thoughts on my opinion, that remember: It’s only my personal opinion.

As everyone knows, there is a massive difference when it comes to what this game was in the time of Halo 3 or Reach, to what it is now in the times of Halo 4 and 5. But the question is: Are these last 2 games really THAT bad as everyone says?
My quick answer: No.

Hear me out why:
When it was time for Halo 4 to come out and shine, the gaming industrie had evolved from what it was in the times of Halo 3, the game needed a change, and Halo 4 actually managed to have a great storyline that left everyone for us waiting too see what was going to happen next, it couldn’t end like that, gladly, it didn’t. Then taking a look at the gameplay, it was a huge difference from the past halo gameplays, and maybe it wasn’t totally perfect and spot on with what we saw in Halo 3, but they were many parts when we were really went into it and had so much fun playing it, so now it was time for halo 5.
Halo 5, now had the chance to show everyone that the gameplay has evolved so much, enemies now have more of those weak spots that you have to get to eliminate them, it was waayyy more entertaining to play this new game that the Halo franchise brought to us, but when it came to the storyline, it wasn’t what many of us halo fans expected, but even so, we were so exited to see what was going to happen next now that Chief is back with Halsey and the Arbiter, just as in the old days. Years after we all played that story, we managed to have our very first look at the new game that we were going to play, and now that with every year that has passed and we get more and more information, it gets every time more exiting, and in my opinion, 343 industries has now done the very right thing they had to do, this is finally a halo game that could make its way to the best of the best. Personally, I never thought I could get this excited about a game, literally everyday I think about this new game we are going to see and I just can’t wait to have a look at what’s coming next for halo history.

And coming back to the title, I just wanted to tell you all guys that we have to keep calm, the only thing we have to do now is wait, because if your worries are that the game is not going to be what you want, IT IS going to be what you guys want, and you’re going to see it in a few months when the game comes out, I’m sure, and we should all be open for what we are going to see in the future, not only because it’s new, means that it could be worse, it’s actually exactly the other side of it, with every year that passes, new mistakes come and every mistake that happens, is a mistake that gets fixed and the final product just gets Perfect.
Keep Calm, and see how Halo Infinite is going to be amazing. :^)
(btw. Thanks if you actually read till the end)

I never had a chance to play Halo 5 because I play exclusively on PC. Speaking as a massive Halo nerd since Combat Evolved I agree. Times are a changing and with Infinite the game looks refreshing yet familiar to all of us old school players. Halo 4 was good fun, and based on the footage I saw of Halo 5 I believe I would have enjoyed it just as much if not more than 4.

I’m equally ready for the Infinite campaign as I am for the multiplayer and LOVE the fact that 343 decided to make the game free to play. Such a SMART decision.

I have always thought that Halo 4 got too much hate. I think there were some interesting changes, and some levels that were really fun. Unfortunately I think the Prometheans in that game are the most obnoxious enemy in any halo game and they really suck the fun out of most of the campaign. I like Halo 4’s multiplayer, even though it is dramatically different, and I think that it is perfect for fiesta-type game modes where chaos reigns. I think halo 5’s arena multiplayer was good too, though I think that’s the only good thing I have to say about Halo 5.

Regardless of my opinions though, I agree that everyone needs to calm down a bit. I think in every big community there is a tendency to either collectively love a new release or absolutely despise it, which gets tiring for me. Even though I strongly disliked Halo 5, I think the backlash with that game was extreme. Hopefully Infinite is amazing liek you said! I think worst-case, Infinite will just be good, not great, based on what we have seen so far. I’d say that’s a pretty good starting point, especially for a live-service game like Infinite will be.

Halo 4 had a good story but its really all it had going for it. Even then, it had one good story beat, which was Cortana’s send off…and halo 5 completely ruined it. The didact was flat and generic, the covenant felt awkward to those who hadn’t read the books, and Del Rio was determined to be pointlessly annoying.

Halo 4’s campaign itself wasn’t terribly enjoyable. Its enemies were spongey, the 3-way battles of previous games were gone saved for like 1-2 battles in an early mission. Its levels felt cramped and awkward. Its weapon sandbox feels woefully samey. While I’ve never been a big multiplayer player, halo 4’s just wasn’t as inviting as other installments for me.

And no, until about 2 months ago I thought halo 4’s campaign was ‘okay’ but going back to play it with friends in MCC after being away from it for the greater chunk of the decade really woke me up to just how bad it feels. Halo 1’s campaign meanwhile still stands up, and I actually went from hating halo 2’s campaign (I find the story still irksome) to somewhat liking it. I ended up not liking halo 3’s campaign as much as I remembered, but i still had more fun with it than halo 4.

As a primary campaign/story player, halo 5 just. Well, I haven’t spent a dime on halo since outside of Halo Wars 2, and honestly I sort of regret it too. Bringing back cortana was a terrible idea and whole created arc ruined just about everything i loved about the setting.

I don’t think the community as a whole is ever going to love either of these games. Halo 5 seems to have a crowd of people who’ve enjoyed its multiplayer at least. But how halo 5 treated the plot i think has retroactively marred people’s opinions of 4’s story in the end.
