Upsizing the Max player count

How do you feel about bumping the player count up to 32, or atleast 24? I feel that it is necessary. Bungie talked about it many times but never went through with it. I think it could add a whole new demension to the game and vehicle warfare would become relevant again. Let me know what you think.

Well, Halo maps and gameplay are designed for a specific range of players. So are all the social interaction features like voice chat. I feel a 16 player cap is the best option.

I get what you are saying, but map sizes and such are created around the game not the other way around. I think it would be great to have a variety of map sizes and game sizes. Ofcourse, you are entittled to your opinion. I just think it is an important evolution for HALO

Leave a level cap of 16 for MM. Make it higher for custom games if possible. Best way i can think of.

Not a bad idea, or perhaps just have a special gametype or playlist alloted to the 32 players…

I thought it was already set in stone that it was a 16 player game :o Halo doesn’t need a lot of players, it’s not battlefield. I don’t think the servers could handle it anyway since they lag so much on peer to peer.

What I’m saying is, the more players you add, the more you have to design the maps to accommodate more people. This means they start losing quality when played in smaller parties and different gametypes.

I have rarely found a need for more than 16 people.

I see what you guys are saying. Where has it been confirmed for 16 players i hadn’t heard that but it wouldnt surprise me.

Well, it’s been said multiple times, but if you want written proof…

That’s actually only for system link, all of those are for local play, but I’d say you are correct in saying it will only be 16 players. I really hope it is raised though.

One word.

Lag.

Basically anything over 16 is pointless. Let’s stop talking about it because it just doesn’t make sense no matter which way you cut it. BTB works and thats all that matters we don’t need epic scale battles. Those belong in campaign anyway. And since were barly seeing epic battles in campaign what would make anyone think that it would work at all in multiplayer. This is a topic that needs to stop resurfacing. It would just take away too much from the core Halo gameplay. Much like Invasion took the potential away from Launch maps in Reach. Even Reach to this day doesn’t really give you map variety. The time it had to take to create the 2 Invasion maps could have been used to build at the very least 3-4 solid small, medium maps or even another map or 2 for btb.

I always wondered what 16v16 on Sandtrap would be like… it would be nice to bump up the max player count… but, it will never happen.

8v8 is fine IMO. 9v9 might work, anything higher would just be stupid.

Now when Halo first came out I could understand why the max count was at 16. But when the Xbox 360 came out it open up new possibility’s for gaming. That’s why I was so happy when Perfect Dark Zero had 32 players for multiplayer gameplay. But when Halo 3 came out it was a disappointment in ways of max people being at 16 still. Like I know if PDZ can handle 32players, Halo could do the same as well. Like the multiplayer doesn’t even have that much graphic and details in it as PDZ does. Now I will admit that PDZ MP 10% of the time when you had all those people in it the screen would slow down. But at that time the internet was slow compared to now. Like back then most people only had like 1mbps-10mbps, but now its like 10mbps-100mbps. That’s why I beleave that Halo 4 can most defiantly handle 32players now.

Now all I see here is another person that doesn’t want Halo to evolve.

completely agree. please 343… halo needs to step up from 16

Necessary? I would think not. 16 has worked fine, and it would most likely continue to work fine. Pushing up the numbers for the sake of pushing up the numbers while lessening the quality of each match would most certainly not be a good thing. I personally do not feel it is worth such a risk.

What is so revolutionary about adding more players into multiplayer? Wait I have some ideas…

  • Epic all new lag! Battle through the seemingly impossible waves of lag in Halo 4!
  • Miniscule amount of maps in each playlist! Why have more maps when pointless playlists can be added? Halo 4 now with 2v2, 4v4, 6v6, 8v8, 10v10, 12v12 and 14 v 14 and 60+ playlists!
  • 2v2 encounters as usual because we all know that maps will be bigger and the confrontaions will stay the same.

I can see it now…

“Coming this Fall and Laggier than ever… HALO 4. Battle online in anywhere between 1v1 all the way to 1000v1000 SO DIVERSE!”

I really don’t like that you tell me that I don’t want Halo to evolved. I’ve been devoted to the Halo franchise since Halo 2 and have since played all the games. Even if I didn’t want it to evolve it would probably have something to do with the if it isn’t broke don’t fix it argument so I don’t see the big deal.

I was unaware that the internet fairy went to the houses of players with DSL and magically updated their internet. While internet is getting faster you can still play xbox live with a sloppy DSL connection and run it pretty fine. Why push them to have to buy a higher speed internet to enjoy a game because they wanted to add the gimmick known as higher player count?

8v8 works perfectly in Halo. The maps are built for 8v8 and the battles feel hectic. You add more players and it just ruins everything. It honestly angers me that you believe that Halo 4 would run 16v16 games… Let’s think about this for a little bit. Halo Reach still lags nearly every game or every other game of BTB… That’s 8v8(16) players… You want to double the player count in a game that has a good bit of lag? I’m not bashing the idea in hopes that it doesn’t happen. Logic says that it won’t happen.

I’m personally fine with 16, but no more than 24. Any more than that just gets annoying (to my experience, at least).
