Upgrading and Changing Halo 3 ODST

Hi. I love ODST so very much, and it felt like Combat Evolved with Halo 3’s style. However, there were some things I would add or change to the game. I made a list for what I would do to ODST to make it super amazing. So first off, the changes.

  1. Replace stamina with body armor.

  2. Replace the, “Brute Plasma Rifle” with the original and only have Grunts use them. Also there would be a few on Elite corpses.

  3. Change the Assault Rifle’s magazine size to 40, 45, or 60.

  4. Increase the Magnum’s power a bit.

  5. Bit of a faster movement speed to make the game more old-school and fun.

  6. Give the shotgun CE’s range.

Now i’m going to list things I would add to ODST.

  • New missions

  • Its own multiplayer with AI bots and a lot of customizable game modes.

  • A lot of new characters to play as for Firefight and multiplayer.

  • Bring the Energy Sword back with two missions having a dead Elite next to the weapon as if they held it.

  • The option to turn the beacon off from your compass so you can rely on the map.

  • Battle Rifle for the NMPD Headquarters mission only and multiplayer.

  • Original SMG variant comes back, equipped on police officers.

  • A new Brute weapon

  • Option to turn skulls off in Firefight’s settings.

So, what do you think? I wish this was all possible.

Honestly I love ODST the way it was. I do wish we had the BR scarcley placed throughout the game not just on NMPD HQ even in Firefight. I would also be okay with maybe some special ops Grunts or something along those lines to have plasma rifles but not many. The silenced SMG on ODST was A LOT better than the normal one from Halo 2 and Halo 3. Maybe they could make their ammuntion interchangeable and have some normal SMG’s laying around on dead bodies throughout the game. If you had to use it, it could add an extra challenge to the game because it would make enemies a lot more aware of your existence. I like the Magnum in the game I think it has a great balance. Gotta make the headshots count and it is better than Halo 3’s Magnum for sure. The sword would be cool to have in the game. Maybe one or two total but it would be cool to have the option to use it. Also would like Firefight matchmaking but it’s too late to add that and I understand. Other than that I really wouldn’t change that much to ODST.

Exactly. Enough said.

Why even do this? The game is almost 9 years old. They won’t change anything, outside of graphically improving it like they did with Halo 3.

It’s sometimes fun to imagine different takes on a game.

OP I would like to see your reasoning behind the changes you listed e.g Brute Plasma Rifle.

The only thing I think ODST could have used is a body armour system. The ‘Stamina’ system still made you feel far too powerful. ODST is in effect a slightly upgraded Halo 3, so it is natural for it to play very similarly. An armour system like Half-Life with a re-tooled difficulty level could help to make you truly feel vulnerable, as a human rather than a re-skinned Spartan.

Add in some more civillian and military battles with this and I think it could really improve the atmosphere and desparation in the game.

There are pro’s and con’s to a health and armour system but regardless of the what if’s, ODST was still a great game.

The Brute Plasma Rifle in ODST is really a re-colored Plasma Rifle. Its rate of fire is the same as the original, and the name doesn’t have Brute in it. Why change it in the first place if they couldn’t make the weapon like Halo 2’s Brute Plasma Rifle.

Of course. I mean the other changes as well, will make for an interesting discussion.

  1. Stamina is just a re-skinned Spartan Energy Shield.

  2. I already explained, but it’s just a re-colored Plasma Rifle. Plus the Brutes have Spikers, which was supposed to be their weapon in Halo 2 but instead Bungie made another Plasma Rifle because of time.

  3. 60 rounds would make the AR like Combat Evolved’s.

  4. Magnum would be close to CE’s if it was a bit more powerful.

  5. To make it more old-school and fun.

  6. To give it better range. Not a rifle’s range, but the range of Combat Evolved’s shotgun.

  1. The Brute Plasma Rifle is a sign that the Brutes are now the ones in charge of the Covenant and that will guide the Prophets to victory while also symbolizing that they’re taking over what once belonged to the Elites.

  2. While sacrificing accuracy, no thanks.

  3. Having a re skinned CE magnum in ODST would make most weapons redundant. CE Magnum was OP even on Legendary.

  4. The movement speed and jump height are reduced because you’re not a Spartan. Spartans are augmented soldiers who can jump like if they we’re in the moon and can run faster, especially if they have armor. ODSTs are regular humans, who trained to the absolute extreme to become the best of the best. Having Spartan-like speed and jump would break the immersion of being an ODST.

  5. Ah… kind of a mixed bag. But I’m more leaned to the “no” side, because it would make it a bit overpowered. The range is one of the reasons why the Shotgun was overpowered even on Legendary, where 2 shots can destroy a Banshee for forge’s sake. It was nerfed in Halo 2 for good reason (although they nerfed it too hard)

No no I don’t want ODSTs to be like Spartans, I mean that movement speed would be increased for gameplay. I didn’t say the Magnum should be re-colored, I said it should be a bit more powerful.

The Magnum is powerful. It just has strong recoil.

The game is perfectly imperfect in it’s own ways. Now, if your suggestions were for a new ODST game, that’d be a different story.

A new ODST game would be awesome.

I agree. It’d be a breath of fresh air
