Upgrade System

So backing during the campaign demo which I think was back in July 2020 on the map menu it showed an option that said upgrade when I saw that I made a post that mentioned if we would be able to upgrade weapons what’s a lot of people didn’t like that idea so my question is what is the upgrade system for. To me if you’re going to put an upgrade system in a game you may as well go all the way instead of being able to upgrade one thing or another I think being able to upgrade weapons would be great I mean I’m not talking about any type of ridiculous upgrades here it’d be something simple like an extended magazine that would allow the gun to hold a little more ammo or an upgrade that allows you the player to carry a little extra ammo

I think they changed a bunch of those systems. I don’t know where I read this however.

I’m about tired of halo’s campaign being balanced around multiplayer… all of CE’s weapons were more fun to use because mp wasn’t a big consideration. with an upgrade system campaign can finally embrace unfair overpowered weapons again while leaving mp unaffected. also anyone opposed to weapon upgrades in infinite has certainly never played doom 2016/eternal.

I think Halo would work great as a pseudo action RPG where you upgrade your suit and weapons throughout the story.

The upgrade system is for equipment such as grappleshot, drop shield etc. Not weapons.
This was clarified in a 2020 IGN interview…shortly after the gameplay demo in question

> "We do have a light upgrade system for Chief as he explores this ring. He’ll be able to upgrade equipment items,

> “Halo Infinite’s Open World Has Upgrades to Discover, Places to Explore, New Weapons to Find”

This was mentioned back in a review a bit after the gameplay demo.

I hope it’s also a hint for using halo 5 like armour mods in campaign. Was some really interesting stuff in those.

List of H5 armour mods

In this article, it seems like you can upgrade your equipment?

> Head of design Jerry Hook chimed in with the ways that optional exploration might benefit the player. “[Master] Chief, as he explores the ring, he’s gonna find more equipment. He’s always gonna find ways to upgrade that equipment. And, it’s not all about power, but it’s about options for the player. We want to ensure that players are able to make the choices to be successful in the way that they want to play the game.”

Halo Infinite isn’t quite open-world but you can backtrack through it - Destructoid.

I do think this is how upgrade will be in Halo Infinite campaign, and maybe the upcoming warzone game mode?

Where did you hear this? Did they say something about Warzone coming back?

Hmmm I don’t know if I like the idea of upgrades in the campaign tbh, but idk guess it depends on the execution

Oh, my bad, I was just speculating that warzone maybe coming back because of the upgrade system. It’s pretty popular game mode, so who knows?

I have my doubts of it coming back to be honest. I feel like we would of heard about it by now.
It seems that 4v4 Arena & 12v12 BTB are going to be the core of the game.

Throwing 12v12 Warzone in to compete with big team just seems to muddy the waters a little with 2 modes that are very similar.

With the upgrade system being for equipment in Campaign as confirmed in previous interviews and REQS not being in the game I can’t see them adding in Warzone again. Probably for the better, whilst it was fun it got pretty stale fairly quickly for me.

Thank you thank you thank you.

It’s almost as if the best way to make a good game is just making it… fun? Esports and competitive multiplayer taking the spotlight just leads to… bad games IMO.
