@LITTLE_LEVEL I’m not trying to be mean or annoying or anything, but this is a forum. Honestly I wouldn’t even mind another game similar to Halo 4 or 5 gameplay wise as long as live service and microtransactions are completely abandoned.
“Could have been” and “were” are two very different phrases. Open World games are honestly getting to be an incredibly annoying trend.
So the only thing update on this that has been leaked would be that season 3 is getting a few cross-core coatings, as well as some of the ones currently ingame being made cross-core as well. Nothing on armor pieces yet, though.
Personally I’d love to see Mark V [B] and Mark VII to share every piece, barring Jorge’s chestplate since that one does end up clipping on Mark VII. Rakshasa and presumably SPI will be fundamentally more limited given the major differences between them, each other, and the other two canon cores, but hopefully we’ll still get swappable helmets, shoulders, and the like. I’m also hoping attachments get thrown on as many helmets as they can fit, and with multiple allowed at once too.
I do think the only annoying thing about open world games is there isn’t enough variety in environment. There is usually only a few different environments that are usually really generic.
Entirely depends. For one thing, Halo Infinite’s system was built on armor cores not cross core. if cross core exist, we can just toss armor cores out the window and have one core instead. Secondly, I am talking about the unique individuality of the armor core itself, not the player.
Following that above:
If you really think you can’t make a unique individual spartan design with just the core given to you, then you just have no real imagination or creativity. Infinite is the first Halo game where I rocked different coatings and pieces within all current five armor cores. I don’t understand how everyone else has problems with its customization.
I think the problem is that the community thinks that there aren’t any choices currently. There is still a million of choices, and if you really think you can’t conjure up any, I can show you some of mine to elevate. I also doubt they will ever drop full cross core customization as well. Each armor core has a specific undersuit, and body size that possibly couldn’t fit certain armor pieces. Seen the Mark VI and Eaglestrike are huge differences.
I really don’t care for these, im not either against or defending it. If you can make it rock, its fine. You wouldn’t be looking for a fashional style, just a random senseless theme.
I actually like a mix of items in games yes it isn’t realistic but I think it appeals to a wider audience.
Well I mainly say it because Infinite was probably the worse open world game I have ever played. This campaign was pretty much Halo : Far Cry edition. Infinite’s open world was so empty and tons of reused assets. It seemed as if in the last couple weeks of development 343 was like oh crap we need an actual open world and some multiplayer maps for players to actually play and quickly slapped some together. 343 can make good environments. They accomplished it in H4 and H5, while the story of those games weren’t exactly liked the environments of the missions were great. I just think the story of Halo would be way better told in a linear style campaign.
Already got a whole slew of new Coatings for Mark VII’s core in the works for next season, really hope they do eventually bring coating to other cores.

Because of how cores work they’re never going to be able to abandon it. The core is at it’s core the body armor. This consists of the legs, arms and torso. Everything else is modular that could be swapped. The only reason to lock armor pieces to a specific core is to keep pieces from clipping. It certainly isn’t to keep aesthetic consistency because any of the non cannon attachments and holos just ruin that instantly. It very likely was done to try and facilitate a reason to do multiple versions of the same coatings or the same armor pieces to be sold separately as individual pieces for more money.
As to making unique and individual looking Spartans I will argue that I still see the exact same people all the time, but they’re actually different players. I frequently see the exact same armor pieces with the exact same colors. And to top it all off it’s really hard to try and enjoy your personal expression when you can’t even select your colors that you’ve been using for two decades. Some people like using the same armor pieces that have been around for nearly two decades and a lot of people like being the same colors that they’ve been for two decades. I’m one of those. Here I am over a year post launch and I still don’t have a black / dark gray and navy secondary coating to use on any of the cores. I can’t help but be frustrated every single time I see my Spartan because I’m not actually seeing my Spartan. Because I can’t be the colors I want to be and because I can’t actually use all the armor pieces I would want to use because I’m not going to give money to 343 for this broken unfinished game.
The simple truth is I just like every single other Halo player has had player expression ripped away from them just so it could be sold back to them bit by bit for a greater profit. There is no defense in what has been done to player expression and customization in the HALO series. Saying that because it’s a free-to-play model justifies tearing up player expression and customization so it can be sold piece by piece to make up for the difference in money they didn’t make from selling a box product is not a viable defense. We didn’t ask for it to be a free to play and we weren’t asked if we wanted it to be free to play. It was just done and they tried to sugarcoat a turd by saying that it was going to allow for millions of customization options on day one, but unless you paid money on day one everyone looked exactly the same. Speaking of paying for stuff, the store prices are still overpriced because they’re unlimited digital goods that don’t justify anything beyond $5. Nothing in any game should ever be beyond $5. It didn’t take a vast amount of resources to make in years of time and money to make it. It shouldn’t cost someone one to three days worth of work to pay for one set of armor. A digital good that is non-refundable and non-transferable. It is finite because when the next game comes out it’s worthless. However I could spend $30 on a book and I can read that book tomorrow, I can read it next year and my grandkids could read it next century.
^ hell of a post. Agree with everything
It’s not coming, if does, it’ll be so late into this game’s lifespan that no one will care (or be around to appreciate it).
If it does come soon, great. But it’s absurd that we even have to ask for this. Like, “let’s monetized the crap out of customization then make it so limited that those shoulders they paid $15 dollars won’t fit on anything. That’ll keep 'em coming back.”
Also it isn’t just about what’s available in Infinite, but what was available in earlier games. We have less base colors than CE, we can’t be elites anymore, we lost the 2 color system, We have less armor and it’s more limited (We can’t have 2 helmet attachments like reach, most armor is vague metal pieces), no commendations so we can earn armor, Halo 4 let us change the entire body armor (legs & arms), H5 had the most colors of any game, also we had armor variants with different decal patterns that offered new color distribution designs (remember the flaming recruit armor?), even weapon coatings are super lame compared to H5. Blue Team and Helljumper we epic!
So yeah, we do have some options. Perhaps even millions of combinations, but not nearly has many millions has we might’ve had in Reach or 4. The color white STILL isn’t available. On any core.
The part that gets me isn’t even the over pricing. It the fact that the pricing makes no sense. An entire BP is worth a flat $10. Pretty reasonable for 100+ items, but then a single armor set is worth double? Or an emblem pack (inflated as 4 items) is sold for $2. That’s worth 1/5 of a BP? C’mon…
I agree wholeheartedly. We have far less options than we ever had previously not just in what has been stripped down so it could be sold back, but has just been removed. I’ve always said that Halo 4 had the best player customization options. I won’t say it had the best armor pieces to customize with, but it certainly had the most variety and the most customization options to make your spartan YOUR SPARTAN.
Everything since 4 has been a downgrade in player customization. After 4 I was expecting it to be expanded to helmet, attachment, visor, chest piece, back plate, shoulders, arms, hands, armor plated space diaper, thigh, knee, shins and boots. Instead we got helmet, visor and the rest is a locked set. Infinite essentially has Reach equivalent customization. There’s a little less on a singular Spartan, but the rest of the customization kinda equals out in the end, but it’s still not as good as 4.
But even with Halo 5, like I said, you had more colors (60 instead of 30 or whatever it was), and while armors were locked into sets, each set had 3-4 decal variations, and we had well over 100 different armors/helmets. And even if you didn’t like this change, you didn’t have to spend a dime on it.
The overall, experience is worse, but you didn’t feel like you got cheated is all I’m really trying to say.
Also we lost genders too. Sorry, lemme be more clear. The gender options we do have are so androgynous that it literally doesn’t matter what you pick.
Your first paragraph kinda supports my point. Ill ad that its true they created it to force the use to us armor cores only without ever using cross core. But I think that’s a good thing. It allowed 343i to do what they want, creating new themes for Halo with the Fracture armor, without specific people bashing it for not being “Halo”. Its like a skin line event. My only problem is if they could do these skin lines more frequently than one per season.
I say that’s just an unlucky problem. In-game is filled with players that look the same because they either don’t buy items, are new players, or don’t play enough to care. I also find it a little ironic how you tell me there’s people looking the same, but you want to rock the usual “black and blue” look. Coating are currently 343i’s rarest cosmetic atm, and they can change the atmosphere of your character easily. Though I can’t tell someone who wears black colors to try white one day, however, you can also try different shades of black highlights/patterns to meet your appeal.
I also say you wearing your armor sounds like a ‘You’ problem. Halo only imo had two games with a complex customization system, that being Halo Reach and 4. Halo 5, you had an RNG system so dressing how you want is completely in the luck too. The people that truly invest in their outfits are really rare in the game, as I’m one of them. But I share my outfit through channels on discord to showcase to players all the time.
This is agreeable but it also sounds like a ‘You’ problem. You make it sound like you have no format unless you buy something. Where in fact, 343i have released many armor pieces and colors to support player customization in events. My Mark VI core rocks all free armor pieces currently except for a visor which was completely unnecessary. If not, I would’ve just sticked to a normal yellow.
343i’s current idea has the con of, I guess not offering players black stripes anymore. However it has a higher potential of offering greater color wheels, patterns, and material/textures. We have seen parts of it here and there, but it will progressively get better.
That last paragraph is completely something else and off-subject. I’m not interested in talking about what looks more like a rant, at all.
If you are counting MCC CE, it doesn’t count. CE had even less colors than Infinite.
I don’t know why you bring elites? Bungie never even gave them actual customization in 3 and Reach besides a preset of less than 10 customization features to go with your color. The only thing we actually lost was Halo elite community.
I disagree about the less armor. Its more in terms of “We don’t have what I want” instead. This usually tends to be really specific, toxically. Though i am in agreement that there should not be such a strict FOMO system and have a reward system through individual player investment.
I think its funny how the color white isn’t available even though it is. But because it has a tiny print of cyan on the shoulder, its no longer considered white. But that’s only in the Halo community. But I guess that’s against the point since the that coating is also only marketed.
