Update for Dominion

So what if instead of established bases, your team started out by claiming a spot. When claimed they activate a beacon and two Albatross show up bearing two halves of your base. Once set up you “fortify” by holding for a set period. Then you get “resupplied” by Pelican. First weapons, then vehicles. While all this is going on you can claim another spot, call for a base, etc.

If this sounds like Halo Wars, that’s where the idea came from.

Just so we’re clear about map size and such, this would be 8v8, unless 343i has the nads to go 16 vs 16.

Be interesting.

I do think Invasion and Dominion should return.

But they need to be evolved and have some new innovation.

I think your idea is a great way to innovate Dominion.

I wish I could edit the title. Maybe the game could be some sort of Dominion/Extraction/Invasion hybrid. I’m thinking all the hype from Microsoft about servers and such, we should be expecting a more robust game.

I saw another post about ODST drop spawning and I just thought I would up the ante.

I think Dominion should stay the same in Halo 5. If they keep it, AND bring back Invasion, 343 basically has Conquest (Dominion) and Rush (Invasion) from Battlefield.

Your mode should be a completely different gametype.

First before we edit existing gametypes let ask ourselves what is Dominion and Invasion?

Dominion is a objective based game type that utilizes strategic assets, through base interactions.

Invasion is a turn-based objective game type that puts players in positional points, to either be an offensive or defensive option. Invasion has various rounds, to which defenders are constantly trying to rebel, the invaders.

So my idea, utilizing Halo: Spartan Assault, Halo Wars, Halo: Reach, Halo 4 and Gears Of War 3 Ramm’s Shadow. I think a more interactive base development can be insinuated for players, to position their bases in greater advantages to fit their playing styles… and have a lot more round based fighting…

One mode for Domination (Invasion-Dominion Hybrid) could be, there are two teams, one offensive team and the other defensive… the base the defending team has, should have positional advantages and weaknesses… which are directed through a round based system akin to that of Invasion.

Another mode could be players fighting over bases (5 or 6) smaller but hold more advantages and disadvantages… ie. one could be a sniper nest based one, while the other is vehicle heavy… this way players would have to be more strategical in their base direction and holding…

The bases are built through the terminal… it sends down an Albatross or other similar ships to set up bases. Bases initially are not ready at the start of a match… and must be called in, and instead of set bases like… this one is more heavily defending or this one is aerial based… the terrain has a base marker, which can be chosen to be a category… so sometimes players may want a heavy vehicle depo and other times an entrenchment… in the same terrain… perhaps even teams change bases categories mid-game for how the game pans out… ie more offensive if winning, more defensive if losing… The follow base categories are:

Anti-Infantry: Sniper and Precision Weapon Spawns, Moderate Cover, No Vehicles.

Vehicle Depo: Precision, Automatic and Secondary Weapon Spawns, Minimal Cover, All Vehicles (Tanks, Light-Ground, Aerial, Mech).

Entrenchment: Close-Quarters, Turrets and Automatic Weapon Spawns, Considerable Cover, Turret-Based Vehicles Only.

Anti-Vehicular: Heavy and Secondary Weapon Spawns, Moderate Cover, No Vehicles.

The Category also depends on the base terrain… in other words, a base more commonly used for overhead vision and anti-infrantry, spawns aerial vehicles… while one on the ground, spawns ground based… the bases would have some variety in what spawns, on different maps.

I would like to see an updated version of dominion, it was a good idea but 343 didn’t quite pull it off, a few tweaks to the game mode would make the game mode be very popular, IMO

Dominion was meant to be a replacement for Invasion that didn’t require specialised maps like Reach’s Invasion did. (Let’s face it, the Invasion maps weren’t particularly great for normal BTB)

As far as my opinion goes, it failed in on big aspect - the phases. Or relative lack of, sans the minor base upgrades.

It should go more like this:

Phase 1 - Initial rush for bases. Few(if any) power weapons, with only ghosts or mongooses.

Phase 2 - Bases upgrade, more weapons like Snipers, Shotguns and Concussion Rifles. Warthogs spawn.

Phase 3 - Bases become fortress-like, Rockets, Spartan Lasers. Tanks/Mantis/Banshees spawn.

Um don’t know about you but that was what Halo 4’s dominion was like intially before nerfing it.

The bottom line is we want Invasion because it offers us back Sangheili game play and perhaps Jiralhanae…

I though Invasion was great, it had some issues. Mostly the initial spawn. But the reason it failed in REACH, is because it only had 3 maps. With 1 map a DLC.

I did like the idea of Spartan vs Covenant, and be nice to have back. This should work for Dominion as well.

I do think both these playlist (Invasion/Dominion) have great potential. They both need some improvements, new innovation. That could be make them great. I player count increase to 24/32 would also be great.

Even a blend of these two would be great. Where you would fight to control bases (Dominion), but still require to plant bombs and steal an objective (Invasion).

Every base your team controls gives you a spawn location to choose from. And the more bases you have the more spawns location you have to choose from. And makes arming or stealing the objective easier. Each team would have a home base, which could not be captured, and always allows spawning. It be interesting playlist if done correctly. And i think spawning at each capture point could be done via ODST Drop Pod. Where you had some control, and could land on players or vehicles.

Some great idea posted by people.

I think Dominion could have some fantastic updates made to it, such as…

  • Increased number of bases
  • mobile bases (boarding action? elephants? mammoths?)
  • area-denial weapons
  • interactive resupplies (pelicans! maybe Target locators?)
  • sapper weapons (like C4). Those EODs Spartans need work, after all…
  • different robotic defenses/shielding
  • larger teams
  • more teams
  • integrate other game types. Imagine planting a bomb to demolish a fortification, or carrying an odd-ball type key to open a gate…

Such possibilities…

You said it, brudda!
