Update download time

I’ve read complaints about download times before and the standard response is usually ‘get a better internet connection’.

Yeah, I totally should, it’s not amazing but I think the longest I had to wait for a game update on the 360 was about 40 minutes.

Anyway, I got my Xbox One yesterday and it takes about 40 mins to install the game (reasonable) and now the update for Halo 5 is on 45%, it’s been updating for around 10 hours.

The console came with COD Ghosts, that updated in a couple of hours. It also came with a digital download of Fifa 16, God help me when I download that.

Is this normal for someone with a slow connection? Fine, I guess if it is, it’s just with the 360 I was up and running in minutes, whereas now I can’t even play a game without hours of waiting.

First world problems, right.

Well the one has a problem were it bottlenecks your download speed, i normally run around 5mbps on my pc but it only runs about 1 mbps on the one

You’re also fighting the net traffic from the servers with every other person who just got a console/halo 5 on Christmas day.

Ah I suppose. It did seem a very big update, but still!

49% anyways, will be going out for more games so I’ll pause it to sort them and it can carry on when I next sleep!

New gen consoles they call em

It should be like 16 gigs, day one patch, BTB patch, and forge, all in one.

I always take the Xbox One offline when installing from disc, it seems to be quicker.

Yeah, 16 gig is crazy tbf. Just annoying because I wanted to get down and play it. Another question, is Halo Reach now backwards compatible?

Yeah I read to do that and it has helped a lot.

Unrelated question (sorry).

The digital download of Fifa will take a long time to download. If I installed the game from my friends disc would I then be able to play the game without a disc, as I’ve already redeemed the code so my Xbox knows I have a digital copy?

Thanks.

Probably, worth a try and if it doesn’t work just download it digitally. This isn’t the same thing but for early access games if I know I want them I will download the 1 hour preview then in a few days buy it so i already have the game downloaded and ready to play, so overall try it from the disc and see what happens. Unless someone does it doesn’t work.

You were also downloading on Christmas, pretty sure everyone is on.

Yea Reach is BWC now. Just insert your disc and it will install.

What that does is it just installs from the disc and then stops. The reason it appears to take longer when you have the console online is that the percentage bar for the installer includes both the game install from the disc and all of the patches that need to be downloaded(this is why it seems to go fast for a while then slow to a crawl towards the end- this is when the disc install is complete and now it is downloading stuff over the Internet). Taking the system offline does not really save time because you do still have to install the patches sooner or later.
