I know the update says that 343 reduced aim assist on the Sniper Rifle from the hip…
But was it just the sniper?
I feel like just this week I have almost zero magnetism… It’s not quite as bad as trying to betray a team mate… But I used to perfect probably about 30% of my kills now I think I am closer to 5%… Just a guess. Sometimes I feel like I will have a one shot guy jumping around in front of me and if he was real he would have his nose, ears, scalp cheeks, pretty much the entire outside of his/her face shot off but no headshot… And no magnetism.
Magnetism and aim assist aren’t the same, just an fyi. They haven’t touched anything besides the caster and sniper. Halo 5 has had so-so aiming since launch, it has bad input pretty much.
You’re not alone. Ever since the most recent update I can’t get my reticle to stay on the enemy no matter how hard I try. It really feels like I’m trying to shoot my team mates it’s that bad. In the past this seemed to go hand in hand with players lagging all over the place but the games don’t really seem laggy, I just get what feels like no aim assist while everyone else is perfecting me.

Yes, and it’s a good thing. Way back when I played this game more, (~a year ago,) I would aim in between a person’s head and shoulder, and still get headshots, despite obviously missing. It pretty much made BTB almost unenjoyable if there was a sniper rifle, especially when people would consistently snipe you out of a Warthog. Like, as in facing the Warthog, and shooting you out of it from the front.
Another thing that really bugs me about aim assist- When I take an opponent down to one shot, and another opponent crosses in between it automatically tracks that opponent instead. I feel like there should be some way to recognize that I’ve just done quite a bit of damage to one opponent and would prefer to have it stay there.

This is a big pet peeve of mine. Honestly thought, it’s hard to imagine this issue being fixed on consoles, I have had this behaviour (or started noticing it more) back when I was playing Halo 3.
Is there any way to remove this completely? Sometimes I’ll be about to kill someone and one of their teammates walks by and my reticle follows them and I loose my aim
Well i believe aim assist and bullet magnetism need nerf, they are op in my opinion. I know 343 wants to make the game noob friendly but … this is not the way. Halo CE had the less aim assist and bullet magnetism and it was fine.
Have to drag this up, but it seems like 343 doesn’t really care.
Some have suggested that the aim assist tracking issue is a placebo effect (i.e. I saw the new opponent now I’m instinctively tracking that one instead). Plausible, but no. See:
It's especially annoying in three phases:
I’m stable and placing continuous shots at a single target. In that situation, the target should not be moving at all in the reticle. If a second opponent crosses through the reticle, either between you and the target or behind the target, the reticle will snap to the new opponent and be very hard to break off. In a 2 on 1 situation, it’s very unlikely that I’d come out alive, however in previous Halo’s I’d be more likely to at least salvage a trade. In this more “newb friendly” halo, I’m more likely not to.
Exploding barrels. If I’m intentionally trying to shoot an exploding barrel that an opponent is standing in close proximity to, I don’t want the aim assist to grab the opponent standing next to the barrel, I want to shoot the barrel itself.
Grenades. If an opponent happens to move near my reticle while I’m trying to throw a grenade, then the reticle will grab on and track the opponent while the grenade is being thrown, and completely ruin my grenade placement.
