Upcoming CSR system.

  • the upcoming CSR ‘Competetive Skill Rank’.

My question is: Is it going to be visible to everyone in the matchmaking lobby?

"Please put this feature in-game the way it was displayed in Halo 2 and Halo 3, otherwise it will be ignored by the majority of the Halo 4 community.

I’d like to mention that a competitive ranking system must be used in the Halo series for this fundamental reason: Most people that play Halo are playing to win. This is not true of games like Call of Duty that use the progression ranking system. In Call of Duty, players play to rank up, get achievements, and unlock titles and emblems; very few play to win the match. The opposite is true in Halo, which is why a progression system does not work for the Halo franchise. The progression ranking system used in Halo 4 tells me how much a player has played, it does not tell me how good the player is.

Most importantly, a competitive ranking system encourages players to improve by matching them against other players of a similar skill-level.

Make the change, display it in game. Please."

It will not be visible to everyone in lobby. In fact, it won’t even be visible to you in lobby. It will only be available here on Waypoint.

-Yoink-!-Yoink-!-Yoink-! Thats my favorite part about Halo.

then whats the point in long term playing? achievements and commendations? … another halo multiplayer fail released imo :frowning:

Halo 4 is a good game.

It just isn’t a good Halo game. And I feel helpless.

If the skill based ranks aren’t visibile in-game, that will be the final nail in this game’s coffin. It’s on life support now as it is.

i seriously don’t get why they won’t put it in. the community has whined for it for so many years since they removed it. less and less people keep playing halo. you are killing the game so many of us grow up with. my love for halo is slowly vanishing, altho the story/campaign is nice.

For years many of us had hoped to finally see the skill based level system be reintroduced again and be visible in the matchmaking lobby to everyone. that hope might fade when they release it and not make it visible to everyone in the lobby. That indeed will be the nail in this game’s coffin :frowning:

So true. Best thing I’ve seen on the forums for a while.

I think some sort of encouragement for team play is needed in Halo Matchmaking these days. Even compared to Reach, it seems like there is little reason to try and help your team win unless you are on a dedicated team. Your CSR should be visible on your service record plain and simple. I am overall happy with how Halo 4 turned out. For casual Slayer Matches, I will admit I am having a lot of fun. But unless 343 can encourage some sort of team play they will lose a lot of the competitive community that makes Halo what it is. Perhaps the upcoming MLG playlist will give the competitive gamers what they desire, but until this is addressed, 343 must know they are ignoring a decent portion of the Halo audience. I personally consider myself somewhere in between casual and competitive. I don’t play just to have fun, I play to have fun while kicking -Yoink-, and so far that’s what is happening. But I can still feel where the super competitive community is coming from and I do believe there are ways to satisfy both parties.

Completely agree. The CSR needs to be visible to all players. What’s the reason for it not, 343? Riddle me that.

Perhaps the only reason they wouldn’t allow for the CSR ratings to be available is
to avoid players being harassed because of their skill.

But then again, it’s midnight and that’s all I can think of. Brain is FRIED.

I think it’s fairly odd that 343 are still keeping out ranks, while CoD made the addition of ranked gameplay. Making rank only visible in waypoint is pointless. People don’t want to earn a green visor from splattering over 1000 players to show off. Things like that are purely aesthetics not achievements. Rank is what people want to show off. Do you play sports for colored jerseys? NOPE. You play for a f’n trophy…that has a F’N number on it! I’m loving the League playlist in BOII. Its great for it being their first rank based playlist. When CSR hits the population will rise and fall faster than the initial game release. After that other TRUE competitive games will absorb players and next years DLC purchases. Halo had a good run, but it’s time for players to move on from this part-style game. There are WAY better games with actual incentives to compete. With or without CSR, Halo is not & will not be a competitive shooter. It’s just a decent campaign FPS with a lack-luster multiplayer like ME3.

CSR MUST BE IN GAME. I will not buy any more DLC unless it has it in it.

What other games? Seriously, I want to know so I can start playing those if they don’t give me my visible number.

^^^^What an epiphany, for me at least…that pretty much nails it. For a multiplayer game, it is good…but when taken in comparison to CE, Hal 2, or even Halo 3, Halo 4 just doesn’t make it.

Well it seems like no one likes the idea of not having there Skill rank in game, I’m sure if 343i start trying to fix things then they would address this problem.
Well I hope they will ;_;

If they want to this game to last till summer they will

I agree and so would any competitive HALO fan

> Completely agree. The CSR needs to be visible to all players. What’s the reason for it not, 343? Riddle me that.

Because it encourages cheating. Visible rank in H3 lead to numerous hacks, buy/selling ranks and deranking.

The game gets hacked all the time so adding visible rank will only increase leading to even greater cheating. Is selling your rank so bad? As a seller, No. As a buyer, it just proves how pathetic you are in life that you need to buy a rank.
And no matter how you see it, de-ranking hurts everyone.

Can’t understand why people would want to make a game even more attractive to cheaters just because you want others to see your rank. Unless you’re one of them.

The game will get hacked no matter what, so quit whining about hypotheticals. Progressive leveling is a joke and that’s NOT hypothetical. In Halo 2 you could get into a lobby full of randoms and almost everyone would try to work as a team regardless. The skill rank system is the only way to go and that’s that. It’s pointless to implement if you can’t use the information real-time to evaluate fellow players. It’s not about showing off or making money.
