Unwarranted Thread Lock?

I had a thread rolling and getting comments as an idea for US Military and it was locked without any reason of why. Obviously I cannot link the thread, but the discussion was going well. I was just about to post to a Vet or two that commented on my post and then I get an error because somebody locked it without a good reason. Why would a thread be locked for no good reason? Another monitor even commented adding to the convo - i was going to reply to them as well.

I have taken a good look at forum guidelines recently and as long as a thread being productive I see no reason it should have been locked. It was about adding a small feature to the game (or Waypoint) that I think would be neat a few agreed, a few disagreed. That is what healthy discussion is about, right?!? What are the guidelines for Monitors to lock threads? are they allowed to do it without reason? and most importantly, Why was my thread locked?!??

Thank you in advance for your help here.

EDIT
I received a reply back on the “reason” why it was locked as I was posting this. The other questions still stand though.

  1. Just because a mod doesn’t respond to your PM fast enough (we’re busy, in different timezones, and don’t always have time to respond right away) doesn’t mean you should make a thread because…

  2. This is technically discussing moderation and the rules are pretty clear in that you should PM a mod. See: #1.

  3. As I told you via PM, I locked your thread because the nationalistic approach of “USA! USA! Our military deserves this!” will result in a flame-war. How do I know this? Because anything that involves pitting one country vs another in a -Yoink!- contest always turns into a flame-war. I’ve been doing this a long time, I’ve seen it happen time and again.

So once again, while I appreciate the sentiments and the idea behind your suggestion, I locked your thread because of the above.
