Was just remembering vehicle coatings are a thing, and I think we’ve only seen… one? (Azure warthog)
Wish I didn’t miss the opportunity to snag that one, but I believe there is another warthog coating from mega construx, just no image to know what it looks like.
Aside from those, I can’t wait to see the other coatings! Mantis , in particular!

I’m hoping for a vehicle coating on the Banshee that is black with red glowing grav-pods on the end of its wings in a style similar to the Silent Shadow Elites.

Banished black would make a great coating
I’m excited to see what coatings we have available not just in Season 1 but in, y’know, even like 5 years from now. SO much to see

And better yet, chances are this won’t result in the “Ten variants of warthog that clutter up the Forge menus but are all functionally the same!” shenanigans we got in Halo 5. Though that makes me think if we’d really be able to do coatings in Forge or not, how would that work? Probably just the base vehicles, since the coatings would overwrite them anyway haha

I would love to be able to force certain coatings on a vehicle and turn override off, but that doesnt seem likely.

Nah, it doesn’t. But I could see it working at least in Custom Games if nothing else. The idea of forcing people into certain colors because of a game mode isn’t exactly new (Grifball’s a good example) so imagining vehicles… I mean, I don’t think they’ll do it, but I could see how it’d work if they did! It’s just the feature would be Off for most default modes
While it’s a cool feature for those that like vehicle skins I do hope there’s an option to disable seeing them. Vehicles with random color schemes is a downgrade from the uniform colors we traditionally had imo.
I just want the Flaming Warthog from Halo wars

I think the biggest mistake they made there was not making them functionally different. Like make the tundra hog better in the snow and the urban hog better on roads. Seemed dumb that it was just cosmetic

I would love to have all types of vehicle coatings and as well with the armor I am a big fan of particle effects so like a warthog or a banshee with lightning strikes periodically zipping down the sides or flames or whatever.

lol why would a paint job make it better? T__he stripes I painted on my car make it go faster!

The paint is just a visual indicator. It doesn’t mean the entire inner workings of the vehicle is unchanged. The Needler Hog didn’t magically gain a shield and the ability to shoot needles when they painted it red. The Oni Hog didn’t gain exploding bullets when they painted it black. They’re different vehicles.
If you have a vehicle painted for arctic engagements, you probably are going to modify the rest of the vehicle to handle in those conditions.

Like tire chains? Since the environment had 0 impact on vehicle handling in halo 5, I don’t see a need to make a camo pattern make the vehicle function different.
Oni hog made more sense than the sword hog. Should have made a new turret model for that.
Coatings should not have an affect on the vehicle for the same reason your armor shouldn’t affect your gameplay.

They never said they wanted Infinite coatings to affect gameplay, they just said they didn’t like how it was handled in the Halo 5 (I.E. multiple req cards that were functionally identical).

I agree with this, Halo is all about the players being on equal footing and a player having a warthog coating which enhances its speed is not helpful for such a goal in multiplayer.
