UNSC Ship Improvements

If you could improve the UNSC’s ships, how would you go about doing it?

Implement plasma weaponry? Use Tungsten instead of Titianium (high melting point, more dense however)? Shielding on all ships? Redesign the structures?

How would you go about doing it?

Upgrading their engines would be beneficial as would be the addition of Shields. I would replace the Machine Guns with Point Defense Lasers, maybe Plasma based weaponry or they could integrate Hardlight instead. A full size, ship mounted Spartan Laser type weapon would be amazing but I would still stick with a MAC or two as well as good ole fashioned Nukes.

First -Yoink- thing I would do is fire the moron that designed the MAC and rebuild it to fire a lighter round at a higher velocity. Second is add pulse lasers, what kind of moron uses auto-cannons in SPACE? Just stupid. Also, replace all the H.E. warheads with nukes since in reality H.E. would not even work in space without oxygen in it and even then it would be pitifully weak compared to a nuke. Also, unlike the mindless Star Wars/UNSC ship designers, I would put the bridge in the center of the ship, you know, so the Captain and his officers are more PROTECTED.

First, redesign it to look like the Republic Flagships from “Star Wars: Battlefront 2”, add Rechargable Energy Shielding, Pulse Lasers, improve the nukes, replace the MAC Cannon with an improved version of the Super MAC Cannon that would just cut right THROUGH the hull of a Covenant ship, and once it reaches the center of the ship from where it entered, it would EXPLODE and VAPORIZE THE ENTIRE COVENANT DESTROYER!!! However, it would be on the very tip of the bow of the ship while the Pulse Lasers would be the Heavy Turrets while the others that are all over the hull of the ship would be the current MAC Cannons but changed so it would be easier to take on Space Fighters.

At the speed a SMAC is going the Covenant ship would get vaporized without having to have the round “explode”.

Yes, but it would just burn a hole in the Covenant ship that doesn’t cause that much damage, but would just explode once it reaches a certain point in ship. Apart from being exposed to the vacuum of space if you don’t get in a sealed area…

Although, it could just slip through the shields if that protects them from being sucked out…

The SMAC is capable of annihilating any shielded Covenant ship, easily, dunno what more you want from that. Besides, how can a slug moving at 4% the speed of light even have a bomb(?) or explosive inside? It wouldn’t work and in the long run is just redundant.

EDIT Just look at what a glancing hit from a 64 kilo-ton MAC does

Now think what a cannon roughly 1 million times more powerful can do. (According to FoR the SMAC fires a 3000 ton slug at 4% light speed, it puts out around 50 giga-tons)

Maybe my version can blow an entire fleet, but it takes a while to fire and then somehow the round could be modified to be a nuke powerful enough to destroy an entire Covenant Fleet, but making it an explosive and retaining the speed at the same time is a bit of a head-scratcher…

I think the UNSC is already in the process of this and why Tungsten?

The Infinity has shields.

If you wanted to take out a whole fleet (assuming their bunched close together ala popular sci fi ship formations) it would be better to somehow fit a massive slipspace generator inside the slug, that or a shielded missile with a slipspace generator. The one we saw in Reach devoured a roughly 15 km area, and that was just a little generator off a Frigate, no doubt the bigger ones have to make a bigger rupture. Costly I know, but there’s limitation’s here so we can go wild xD.

What about the plasma MAC round from first strike? That thing sounded deadly. And it probably would be more economical in the sense of possibly being able to hold more ammo and less heavy, making it able to be quickly docked and refueled with reserve plasma.

As for upgrading in general. Shields, and pinpoint slipspace engines. Which would allow surgical strike space battles, possibly even allow fast hit and run missions leaving for almost no risk to ships and maximum damage to the enemy.

Though I’ve always been curious if they could make some sort of slipspace weapon. Shoot a bomb into slip space and have it re-enter in a open space in an enemy vessel. By-passing all defenses potentially.

They did something like this with Nukes but the Covenant could detect their radiation and destroy them before they caused any damage. Perhaps the UNSC could use some of their more advanced technology to find a way around this now?

Well with all this new forerunner tech I’m sure we will see upgraded ships in future games.

When did they attempt this? Before or after they got the new Forerunner drives?

Because how I imagined it would go would be like in Star Gate, near the end when they started beaming nukes in the Wraiths ships.

I thought with the ability to use pinpoint slipspace drives, they had an accuracy of millimeters wasn’t it? If so, I’d think it would be easy-peasy using modified slip drives for nukes and having a high end AI for all the targeting/calculations.

Because I wouldn’t think they would have the ability to do anything if a nuke was set to blow instantly once it reaches normal space.

There doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of science behind your idea…it’s just “make the MAC bigger and have it go BOOM”! I see a “maybe”, a “somehow”, and “head-scratcher” suggesting you have no idea.

All I know is that a Super MAC requires a LOT of energy to fire, so much that it might be a drain on the ship. A possible hindrance even.

Dem shields won’t last forever. Oh and Tungsten doesn’t melt at 3000 degrees Celsius, which is how hot Plasma is according to Halo Nation.
