I’ve been wondering why Infinity has been heavily idolized in recent Halo media. Obviously the ship isn’t invincible but we haven’t seen it in many battles against other heavy warships. So, what ship do you think would be a match for the UNSC Infinity?
The Mantles Approach.
I really hope the Infinity has a crud load of classified advanced weapons, is it even listed as having point defence lasers?
I imagine that a Covenant supercarrier would be more than a match. Then again, the Infinity’s MAC cannons were able to punch through several hundred meters of the Mantle’s Approach’s hull plating.
How would a Covenant Assault Carrier fare against the UNSC Infinity?
> How would a Covenant Assault Carrier fare against the UNSC Infinity?
Jul was hesitant to use his assault carrier against the Infinity, so probably not very well. Infinity’s MACs alone give it a huge advantage.
Perhaps it was Jul’s carrier specifically. Jul’s Covenant seems to be below the technological standard of the regular Covenant so that could have effected his ship.
> How would a Covenant Assault Carrier fare against the UNSC Infinity?
Consider the following:
A single round from an Orbital MAC can destroy a CAS-class assault carrier instantly. The Mantle’s Approach was able to take the fire from several Orbital MACs and the UNSC Home Fleet without issue due to incredibly powerful shields and hull plating. The UNSC Infinity’s MAC was able to pierce those shields and hull plating.
What chance does any Covenant ship have against that firepower?
But an Assault Carrier has multiple energy projectors which could be effective against Infinity.
> But an Assault Carrier has multiple energy projectors which could be effective against Infinity.
An assault carrier may be able to damage the Infinity quite a bit, but consider that the Infinity held off an attack from multiple cruisers above Requiem and even rammed one of them, implying exceptionally powerful shields and durable armor. Then consider that its MAC cannons would make short work of the carrier.
I believe that a supercarrier is the only ship that has a chance of solely defeating the Infinity, and even that is questionable due to the raw power of the MACs.
An Assault Carrier is also capable of going up against cruisers and ramming them as shown in Halo 3 when the Sangheili battle the Jiralhanae over the Ark. Also, Infinity mostly battled with CRS-class light cruisers which are only 300 meters longs and are relatively weak even to frigates.

It was just an example of how the Infinity is more than capable of handling some blows from plasma weapons.
Again, you need to consider that the Infinity was able to breach through several hundred meters of Forerunner hull plating with its MAC guns. The Mantle’s Approach is at least 20x bigger than the Infinity, and much more powerful. An assault carrier wouldn’t stand a chance against such firepower.

It’s actually 65x longer than the Infinity and has over 1000 times the volume. Putting a hole through the armor of that monstrous ship is quite impressive.

Wow, that thing was a beast. Even more of a testament to the Infinity.

Its bigger than the first death star.

Hahahahahano.
I think you are seriously forgetting the situation here. The Mantles Approach was under fire from the whole of Earths Orbital Defenses and fleets, along with the Infinity. It wasn’t just the Infinity saying “Hey, lets go make a hole lol”. Not in the least. And that hole wasn’t very big. It was barely enough to fit the Chief and his fighter ship into it. Then that hole promptly closed up. Impressive that it made a dent, yes, but don’t make it seem like the feat is any bigger than it is.

Mantle’s Approach was repairing itself instantly. That’s why the Chief couldn’t get through easily. Other than that, it seems a pretty big hole when Infinity initially fires at it, although relatively it is very small compared to the size of the ship. Also Infinity fired only two MACs. If you look at the carefully, it has Five MAC ports.
Also Infinity’s MACs were doing something which the Orbital MACs were consistently failing to do - breach the MA’s shields. Not only did it breach the MA shield, it even pierced the armor of the ship to certain KMs.

It made a kilometer long hole wide enough to fit a jet fighter that is nearly 30 meters wide. It fired from a range of over 5,000km away and hit it in less than a second. The fact that it even made a dent is impressive and the fact that said dent was a kilometer deep. So if that isn’t impressive then I don’t know what is.
So it created a kilometer long hole on a “Forerunner” war ship. What would happen if it shot a “Covenant” made ship that is 65x smaller then the Mantle’s Approach? Will it gut it from one end to the other? Or will Covenant shields and armor somehow prove more resilient then a weakened forerunner shield and kilometer long armor/hull?

Isn’t the Broadsword about 19 meters wide? Kinda makes a difference. The hole wasn’t that big. That and the Mantles Approach wasn’t really a War ship. It was the Didact’s flag ship, but not an actual ship sent to war.
I did say it was impressive that it made a dent. However, it did so with the aid of practically everything the UNSC had, which were also firing and taking fire. If it were a 1v1 battle, the Infinity would be out. Gone. Dead. Then we have to keep in mind that this Forerunner ship was extremely weakened. This ship had deteriorated quite a bit and had been taking fire by a Battlegroup, Orbital defense and then had Chief and Cortana helping them from the inside by clearing out things that would have been a major issue to Infinity when they fired. Then, under all those conditions, the Infinity fired which made a hole that barely fit the Broadsword in and then promptly closed off. Not that impressive under all those conditions.

Yeah, except they didn’t. The Infinity had several factors aiding them, the most important being Chief in a broadsword taking out 3 guns that were said to have caused the Infinity serious issues. That and the shield had already taken a beating from another battlegroup and Orbital Defense.

You are taking two different things here, mate. We are talking about Infinity’s offensive capabilities at present not her defensive ones.
Those three guns were at that time destroying or damaging the HomeFleet’s ships.
The Infinity also did not have a ship board AI during the fight as it was killed off by The Didact on the impact in Requiem. So the Infinity had to rely on human engineers to direct the MAC shots at MA. The Guns were a massive pain in the -Yoink- because they were Point Defense guns. They could’ve easily damaged the Infinity as they did with the Homefleet’s ships.
And this is a Forerunner ship we are talking about. Do you really think the MA can’t replenish it’s already uber shields since it is leagues ahead of what current Human era tech has to offer?
