UNSC Infinity discussion

What do you guys think of the UNSC Infinity from what I read the ship is 3 km long and is loaded with forunner and covie tech and also it’s role I read on the wiki that it was created to fight back the covenant fleet if earth was lost. Which is pretty impressive for a human ship.

  1. Hate the name. Infinity is just…bleh. Rather they name it after someone like Admiral Cole or Captain Keyes.

  2. It’s creation is pretty odd. I have to wonder where ONI managed to assemble all the tech for it prior to 2552.

Hmm… I like that.

UNSC Cole

UNSC Keyes

Onyx was a land mine of Forerunner tech. The excavations long before the Spartan 3’s were there may be partly responsible for some of that technology. As for the rest of it, there was this huge Forerunner structure you blew up in the first game…

It’s in homage to Marathon Infinity which was the precursor to the Halo series. In that game there are a lot of story elements that might mirror the story telling in Halo 4.

Well the ONI had been secretly collecting covie and forerunner tech for years. Remember the war lasted 28 years and the ship wasn’t completed until another 4 years after the war had ended. Perhaps the ONI had even more exposure to forerunner tech since before but I think 32 years is enough time to gleam something from the forerunners/covies.

I’m reading Glasslands now, there are lots of references to Infinity and Spartan IV’s so far and I’m 4 chapters in. I’m interested in seeing how the ship really looks, its looks like a hybrid of human and covenant design styles with a forerunner sheen.

And wasn’t a Yoink!load of Forerunner tech salvaged from the Portal?

Possibly.

The UNSC may have gotten something from Cortana when she was back at Cairo station.

  1. Onyx was a Forerunner installation. However, all they ever managed to find was the Forerunner city prior to the Battle of Onyx. So at most they might’ve found some Forerunner cups and bowls.

  2. Where was this wealth of Covenant tech this whole time durign the war? It took until the 2550’s if I recall for the UNSC to crack the workings of the Jackal shield gauntlet. Not only that, but if they had Covenant ship technology just laying around, why did they have to work to get one as a key competent for Operation: RED FLAG?

This is all with the idea that the Infinity has been a work in progress for a few years before the end of the war.

I’d rather it be named the UNSC Avery Johnson Junior. Also they probably got a Yoink!load of covenant tech after the battle for earth.Maybe from the elites as well

To my understanding of Glasslands, The UNSC Infinity’s purpose was never mentioned. They pretty much provided us with the following information.

  1. It Exist.
  2. It is being built in a distant system, under a communication blackout.
  3. It has reverse engineered Forerunner (Covenant?) Technology Incorporated.
  4. It has Spartan IVs on board.

I personally believe that although it would be the most capable ship in the UNSC/ONI fleet, it would not be enough to stop a invasion force targeted at earth. Also, if it was intended for Ship v Ship combat, there would be no good reason to dedicate Spartan IV to it.

I my opinion, the ship was meant for deep operations, targeting major Covenant forces behind enemy lines. Covenant homeworlds, Key political/military/religious personnel, military infrastructure etc. This would explain the number of Spartan IV’s included.

Assuming this ship was started before the end events of Halo:3, I believe that ONI still viewed Operation: Red Flag as a serious option. This ship, with a Spartan IV crew, would have provided the tools needed to do it. However when the war ended, they proceed to finish the ship, in order to use it against any possible future threats.
