It’s bound to happen early in the process, but it’s not a bad thing. I got to Champion on Doubles and Team Slayer last night with CSRs of 1518 and 1544- this is because the population of people that had qualified for Onyx was not large enough to make the CSR hurdle higher… as more games get played, that CSR hurdle will shake out to be more like 2100 in order to get to Champion, and therefore much more indicative of player quality. It’s already happening, as I lost my Champion status in just a few hours after I stopped playing. In Pre-Season I got my CSR up to 1965 in TS and didn’t make Champion.
One of the guys in OP’s screenshot is already out of Champion, and the other is about to be. So you weren’t really playing people ranked THAT highly, because their CSRs weren’t even above 1600.
Additionally, even if you did play “real” champions, I imagine sometimes the ranking system will want to see how you fair vs. tougher competition in those first ten games prior to placing you in a division. A loss against 4 Champions will negatively impact your CSR/ranking much less than a loss against 4 Platinums.
People keep crying for a 1-50 system, which is hilarious because what we have for Halo 5 is essentially a significantly improved version of that.
