Oh no. If I unlock everything in the game pass too fast I wonder what I would do? Oh right…Play the game… All items within the battle pass are just cosmetics. They don’t effect gameplay, but allow me to express my own style and that is a key factor for me to enjoy the game. If I gotta sit there and play a unholy amount of games doing shenanigans to do challenges to to put on the AI I want then that is not fun. If something is not fun, people will lose interest. Loss of interest means less playing and purchases from your consumer. Less purchases is less money for content. Less content means you can return to the first steps and repeat. Then with the cash cow that is halo dead…mabey we can start picking up hobbies and do something more productive with our lives. Until then, on the forums we remain.
I won’t be. Because then I have all the cosmetics that I want and I can play the game however I want instead of grinding towards something for weeks/months
But is having a 6 month battle pass what anyone wants? Why can’t they chop the battle pass into 6 one month series with a great reward after each series. And if you reach max level for every series, you get an exclusive item. IMO, that’ll keep the interest for a larger group of players. Once players grind out, or pay out, to finish the battle pass in 3 months, they might not be eager to continue playing until the next season releases. One month rotations keep things fresh, and doesn’t change that the season can still be 6 months long. Just a thought.
Do you think this first capstone challenge is worth the grind?
They should just do what the MCC did and have a battlepass and a level system, I feel more rewarded for doing well in MCC then I ever have in Infinite at this point
For the capstone, they could do what they do with the battlepasses overall and allow you to “choose” a locked capstone for any given week.
Seems like if you were more secure about having a life and not having enough time to play video games you wouldn’t be so bent out of shape about not having six hours a week to play games. But! We are off-topic, so I will desist from further comment.
Right ? Think the people complaining just want free cosmetics. Other players are going to spend 1k hours in the game. They’ll be fine with it because it makes the level 100 cosmetics rare and elite. I think 343 know what’s up based on real player data unlike the forum people’s.
Exactly! I haven’t seen many people press on this. But I agree that more base customizations unlocked either from the start or through other means (without paying) would definitely make people feel less obsessed about the whole BF progression system. In my opinion the BP and Shop should NOT be the only ways to unlock customization options.
Once we used to play just to have fun, to rank up, to get better at the game or to unlock a certain achievement/armor, we had everything from the start and we were free to choose how we wanted to approach some or most of it.
Battle Passes, seasons, weekly challenges, all of them (not just for Halo, ofc) are taking that freedom from the player. Now it’s the developer that decides how we should play on a daily/weekly basis.
-
I wanna grind hard as hell to get some armor? I should be able to do that.
-
I just wanna have fun? Infinite’s a ton of fun to play, I’ll stick to it for months, even years.
-
I really want to level up? The game should let me do that as well.
Obviously, many people want everything in a matter of seconds, we’re no longer as patient as we used to be. Life’s way more compicated, we have other, more important things to do. That’s why we should be free to do whatever we want.
If I only have 2 hours of play per day, I’d like to play the way I want to. Instead of playing, we’re being played.
Infinite’s a solid game, it doesn’t need cheap moves from 343i to keep many of us playing and that’s why it’s frustrating imho. The season’s long, very long, we’ll get to complete the pass eventually, but I’m not playing Infinite to complete a battle pass, I’m doing it because I needed to play a new Halo.
Unfortunately, this new Halo puts many barriers as if it wants to keep us engaged while drip-feeding the most out of it.
I get this is f2p and, while I would have liked some recognition for preordering the campaign, like giving the first battle pass for free, I understand that it needs to sell its items. This isn’t just about FOMO, the game is simply saying that anyone who’s not gonna invest tons of time or money isn’t welcomed in its ecosystem.
As a long-time, passionate fan of the series, I feel like I’ll either have to go full in, non-stop, or I’ll be left behind in some way or another. Even Halo 5 didn’t make me feel like this and I got every REQ after one year of consistently playing that game.
I didn’t want Halo to turn to seasons/battle passes, but I was still willing to accept it, if done properly. However, what I got just saddens me a bit, mainly because the game is so much fun to play. As soon as a match ends I’m reminded that it’ll take tons of games to reach the artificial goals the developer decided I have to reach.
(pardon if some sentence structure is off, I’m trying my best to convey what I’m feeling)
The problem is not the speed of progression. The problem is the way of progression. You may get completely stuck with the progress because you can’t complete the specific challenges, or because you don’t want to be forced into playing a specific way. Progression should be tied to the time of play and the performance during matches, not silly weapon-specific kills or even more outlandish tricks to attempt.
Another problem is that even though you may progress, if you don’t pay you barely get anything useful. Most of the customization items are behind the paywall, free players get only Challenge Swaps and a few backdrops for their profile. Maybe one or two visors. Not much more.
If progression was slow and steady, yet rewarding, no one would complain about the time it takes to complete the Battle Pass.
My only real gripe with it currently is that your performance doesn’t matter, in terms of BP progression.
If I go 30 and 5 in BTB with a ton of medals, I would like a little extra xp.
Even if it’s +1xp per unique medal (as in, 3 double kills won’t stack up to 3xp), it would help.
I think a big issue for the people I play with is that the game launched with almost no customization at all. everyone looks exactly the same with 5 different color options. It would have been nice if it launched with like 2-3 different helmets, shoulders, chests, etc, or made them very easy to quickly get a few so that the 10s of thousands of people you play dont all look exactly the same. Instead we have to grind the season pass to look different from other players and because of that people want the grind to come quickly. It’s not the player-bases fault that 343 decided to double the season to 6 months, and our grind shouldnt take 6 months because of that decision.
Also, and I say this admittedly ignorant to what they have planned for fractures / other events, but they had 6 years to develop this game and the first season pass is pretty lackluster. you get to slowly piecemeal each character from reach and then get their full kit, rinse and repeat. Did they really need to fluff the pass so badly that you unlock a right shoulder piece at level 7 and then the left at level 8? it’s those kind of design choices that make the whole system unrewarding for me. Spending several hours to get one shoulder piece just to do it all again for the same reward is just not fun.
That, along with several of their premium colors looking like cadet colors or basic AI colors looking exactly like premium AI colors just makes me wonder WTH 343 has been doing, we are literally in season 1, there are 4 AI colors to choose from, you’re telling me no one there was creative enough to pull out a color wheel and choose literally any other color than one that was already present as a launch color?
I don’t believe this will be the case, since Halo Relies mostly on the community to self sustain itself, especially when it comes to custom games and forge.
aggressively pacing player progression to unlock the BP gear is not advisable, I know it isn’t fomo for this BP but you shouldn’t restrict progression to a severe extreme, thats my thought on this at least.
the core issue rn also stems from the BP being the only means of visual progression.
Thank for your increadibly helpful contribution to the conversation.
There’s always someone on here who chooses to nit pick other players on their dedication to the game instead of tackles issues staring them square in the face.
I had this same idea!
I think that would be an incredible update to the capstones!
