(Unpopular Opinion) I’m Ready for a Halo Battle Royale

Here’s what’ll probably be my unpopular opinion. I don’t want Halo putting in and implementing things simply because it’s the current popular thing to do and has a good chance of bringing in more players. I want the core Halo experience I’ve come to love since I started playing this series in 2004. Not every game is for every person, and that’s okay. It’s like when some people complain that Dark Souls is too difficult, why is there no easy mode so I can relax and breeze through the game? Dark Souls isn’t for that type of person, and that doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with either that person or Dark Souls. If 343 could put in a Battle Royale gamemode that fits within Halo’s sandbox and still fits with what we’ve come to love over several games, I’m good with that. If it’s something that’s gonna be completely out of nowhere and doesn’t fit at all, then they shouldn’t put it in.

I completely agree with this as well, I don’t want them to just puke out a BR game type to make people like me happy. I want them to add one that makes sense with the way Halo plays. When I read these forums I see a lot of negativity towards the state of the game in terms of progression and micro transactions but the one thing almost everyone seems to be able to agree on is that the game itself actually plays really well and is a lot of fun. I think with the right amount of time put into development, 343 would be capable of delivering a battle royale that feels new and unique to Halo while still keeping the same formula that makes BRs so much fun to play and so satisfying to win. They could do so much in terms of the map layout, the kinds of vehicles we could access and the different ways we could use contracts in the open world style map to maybe buy things in game like Battle rifles or grapple shots (I even watched a TimTheTatMan vid where he suggested instead of avoiding the gas from a closing circle we could be running instead from a swarm of The Flood) there’s just so much they could do with a Battle Royale mode to truly make it feel like Halo. I really enjoy this game and how it plays, I just want new ways to play it then the same way I played it 10+ years ago. I also truly believe that a Halo BR could easily dethrone Warzone and become the new biggest fps game, which is something I would really like to see

Well, if they ever were to implement a Battle Royale mode, it probably won’t be for quite a while. Maybe a few years into this planned 10 year life cycle. There are a lot more urgent issues that need fixing that’ll take some time to do. Not just bug fixes, but adding content for the MP that does currently exist. We need more maps and the return of missing legacy gametypes before possibly working on adding in a whole new massive gamemode that has never existed in the series before.

No, it needs forge.

With forge and a custom games browser, you could make any sort of demented “free for all on coke” you want. And the best part is, with the large population, people would play those things. 343i wouldn’t have to spend dev talent on it, they could crowd source popular community content, and everything would be peaches and cream moving forwards.

I agree with you. I am waiting on firefight myself and I know forge and coop are big portions of the game that should be release before anything else. But I refuse to believe we won’t have access to all of those plus infection, king of the hill ect. within the next year. Afterwards I think a BR development would be a fun next instalment for the game

I’ve seen posts like this floated around and I think it’s a really cool idea. I just personally would feel much more satisfaction from being able to queue into a BR match making mode where I can be rewarded with exp towards my character level (assuming 343 actually deliver a proper progression system) rather than having to wait on enough people to getting together to host a private BR game

I think it’s likely we’ll get Forge, co-op, missing gamemodes (infection, KOTH, assault) within this year. Firefight will probably take more time to build. I would bet it’s more likely that would come next year.

that’s what scares me. If they think people will wait around another year for a firefight mode (something that used to launch all at once with previous fully polished halo titles) then this game is doomed. It’s not fair to drag out the release of old beloved content over the space of years and present it as ‘new’ because it’s not. If they don’t want this game to go belly up they need to release all the game modes we used to get at launch asap and start innovating new and exciting ideas to bring into Halo Infinite

Eh, Infinite is a free to play with a 10 year game plan. It’s very likely this game won’t hit its peak (both in terms of content and playercount) for a few years. I know being F2P doesn’t excuse the lack of content at launch, but it’s probably gonna make it a lot easier for 343 to be able to recover and start having a healthy playerbase. Remember, MCC had a terrible reception at launch and eventually became fairly dead. Then they announce MCC for PC and start putting in real work on the game and it’s now in a very good place, several years after the original release. Now, I hope to God it doesn’t take Infinite 5-6 years to become something amazing, but not being in the best place it could be right now isn’t necessarily the death of it.

Its not going to survive because of the following, not the freaking lack of that shallow hell called Battle Royale:

  • A functioning Theater mode.
  • A funcationing Theater mode that can record Campaign gameplay
  • Horrible UI
  • Lack of Legacy Weapons and a small number of Weapons to choose from
  • General Reception of the new weapons are unfavorable.
  • Lack of proper modes that Halo is known for to choose from.
  • Current gamemodes like BTB not working properly
  • Crashes on PC still being fairly frequent.
  • Forced rotation of Objective game modes and lack of freedom to choose what type of game modes to play.
  • Bad hit registration
  • Horrible melee registration
  • Horrible battle pass
  • Regressed Customization for Spartans.

They need to work on their strengths and BR is not it. Hell, as far as Halo content goes that isnt their strongest either. But seeing as how BR would be completely new, I rather they work on getting the Halo stuff in Infinite. Infinite barely has the stuff Halo is known for and whats here, feels half baked already.

Well aren’t you just a ray of sunshine.

This makes you sound incredibly immature.

It takes another level of ignorance to brush off the ongoing issues with BTB right now. You’d probably know that yourself if you actually played BTB.

And yet, even with that many employees and 6 years to develop the game, it’s still a buggy unfinished mess. I’d rather not have 343 add in a completely different game mode that even they aren’t familiar with and actually focus on the existing issues with the game (and finish adding the staple modes, like Forge, co-op campaign, and possibly Firefight).

i didnt say monetize gamemodes like warzone. i just mean if you want people playing your game and buying stufff in store then expand on whats popular in custom games to keep people around.

343 have a battle royale gametype iin the works (based on leaks) so people wll be making 28 player batttle royale maps iin forge

I seem to get a lot of replies like this. I’m in complete agreement with you. There is a lot missing from this game that needs to be fixed asap and added as well. I’m not asking 343 to forget everything else they still need to add and improve on and just pump out a BR already, I’m saying that at some point in this games life span they are going to run out of classic halo content they can shill out as ‘new’ content (KOTH, Forge, Coop) and they’re actually going to need to start introducing unique modes to this game. I’m hoping a battle royale is one of them

They dont seem to be so good on what their working on. They came out with a broken game. It almost feels to broke to fix. You think if they fix those problems the player base would go back up? It wont. 343 gave us a bad taste in our mouths and its hard to go back to this game. Thats why if they did bring BR it might bring the audience back.

Oh the battle royale argument again…how fun. I’ll just assume, 343 will eventually cave and add the mode.

And we’ll get 343’s version, which keeps sounding like everyone else’s but…with 343s little twist (they could make it the flood…how quaint).

I loved reading the part where the OP wants a game type where they can sit and chill with their friends. What in the actual -yoink- is that? Halo has always been a fast paced shooter, if you have to change that dynamic in order to get a proper BR, then…that isn’t Halo.
Doesn’t Fornite in fact have a MC skin? Go play that…

This community is so baffling sometimes. They want Halo to be another game that already exists. They want CoDs battle pass, they want fortnites BR…

“Halo won’t survive without a BR.”

Halo will be just fine without a BR.

Why in the hell would non Halo mode bring the audience who want to play Halo back? What sense does that make? That makes no sense.

Too broke to fix? Did you see MCC at launch?

They can fix like 90% of the issues with Infinite in one year. People make out Infinite like its Halo 4 or Halo 5… The game has a great core experience, it just has a few annoying issues that frustrate players.

Here’s the thing, Battle Royale isnt new. It’s literally Big Team Slayer…with one life. And I saw your statement about a 20-30 minute battle royale being rewarding to win than a Social Slayer match…how? A fast paced close quarters map, vs a big map where you may not find anyone and running around like a headless chicken only to die and get sent back to the lobby.

What is more rewarding In that…then Social Slayer? I’m…I’m confused. You can get 2-3 matches of Social Slayer before getting through a whole BR match. What would easily bringing people back is a much bigger weapon sandbox. Of this is the quintessential Halo 343 wanted, this should’ve easily have had almost every weapon in Halo known to man in this game. The map system rotates guns in the maps no? Could easily have a random but at the same time familiar feel and dynamic in these matches.

For me, the game actually breaks if I try to play Big Team Battle or custom games, and while the issue with Big Team Battle has been around for a while, it’s only been that bad for a few weeks.
I really don’t think it’s a problem with the servers not being able to handle the amount of players in Big Team Battle.

There are several posts here with people saying they’d want a battle royale mode after those other modes are added.
Also, Halo Infinite went through development hell.
Is 343 not going to fix the issues that caused that?

I think it’s sort of odd to think that most of the community will come back without everything else having been fixed first.
A battle royale mode afterwards might get the attention the game needs for those players to hear about it again and check what’s been fixed however.

Also, some players who like Halo might return for a battle royale mode.
I might not be leaving, but if I did, I’d probably return to play that mode.

Idk why people think a battle royale would help Infinite when the core, the foundation, the fundamentals are all for intents and purposes bad.
