I’ve never really understood this stance. People act like the introduction of a Battle Royale means that they must kill some aspect of the multiplayer portion but the truth is nothing would change at all for multiplayer only players. If anything a BR would increase the population of the multiplayer base just like it did for call of duty. The game is already beyond predatory with the store prices, so I’m not sure what you’re so afraid of
And I won’t understand why people defend it either. Every game I’ve enjoyed has got worse because of BR. Take Fornite for example…the zombie mode was fun then BR mode basically killed all support for the mode and modes were removed in games like Battlefield to cater to BR. Just because it might increase the population does not make it good for everyone. For me personally I hated what’s it’s done to the industry and I hate/despise live service games. What I’m afraid of is that there’s a chance adding BR may lead to the game becoming more predatory.
I don’t see them adding anything before forge and coop come out. But once they deliver those two additions in May what’s left to make the game feel new and keep people playing? I think adding a BR after the coop launch could be a fun way to keep the game population up
this game will be 6 feet under in 2 years let alone 6 if they don’t add something new to it. The best time to form and retain a healthy player base for any game is at the games launch and frankly halo missed the mark by launching with no player level system, no free customization options and practically no playlists.
Then go play Apex or Fortnite. Sorry to be so glib, but not everything needs to be a battle royale. The way this game is designed, a Battle Royale would require a massive amount of reworks just to include it as a playable mode.
People aren’t wrong that the game in its current state will have a hard time competing against existing F2P battle royale games. But that doesn’t mean this game needs to chase that trend. The only thing the game needs now are more maps and modes, not a complete ditching of the genre that made Halo into the juggernaut it is. If the game had launched with double the maps and modes like VIP, Infection, and King of the Hill, it would be in a much better place.
you’re not wrong. And I have gone back to play apex, and so has almost everyone I know. The reality is that arena shooters are old and played out. They can still be fun (and as far as arena shooters go, infinite is one of the better ones out there) but battle royale’s are new and exciting and it’s what lots of people want to play these days. I agree it wouldn’t work with being added to one of Infinite’s playlist, but it could certainly work as it’s own stand alone game, just like warzone worked (and frankly saved) call of duty as a stand alone game in 2020
I disagree on that notion, what keeps a BR alive ive noticed is that the mode itself is married to the Liveservice game format, while the arena games tend to be more traditional in multiplayer, but can last a long time for simply being fun and working, CS GO comes to mind for this, to what extent im unsure however.
a BR would certainly be nice, but the main fear for veteran and legacy players is the BR overtaking everything else in support and attention
maybe a BR would be nice to receive after Forge and such have been released, after weve gotten all the game modes and custom games working.
Yea I get that, and I would never expect them to start working or releasing a BR before modes like forge, coop and firefight come out. The only thing I’m really trying to say is that if you’re relying on Infinite to hold onto a strong player base because of modes like King of the Hill and Infection etc. then you’re going to be disappointed. Those modes are fun and while they may have made halo a juggernaut when they launched that was only because they were new and innovative at the time. No other game had modes like that and they were received well. But now those modes are old, and if games want to thrive they need to add new extensions onto their games to modernize themselves. Call of Duty was always a widely successful franchise that played into the same formula they used in all their previous games and from 2016-2020 theirs games player bases were struggling. It took introducing warzone as a new mode in 2020 to turn it from a bleeding franchise into the biggest fps game in the world. Halo could do the same thing but better with their own BR, because imo Halo is a fundamentally better game than COD
This is objectively incorrect. They are almost 5 years old at this point, and they’re just about the least original option for a dev to put into their game. Literally immediately before you said this, you listed 3 other battle royales. Maybe they’re fun for you, but the last thing they are is new.
Maybe you have a point in saying that Halo is just the same 4v4 arena shooter it was 15 years ago, but copying the same formula as every other game in the current market is the not the correct direction to go, especially in a game that’s had a unique name for itself since its inception.
Fortnite needs to die. Stop trying to resuscitate it.
I believe Halo will be capable of self sustainment once Forge hits, that way organically the community can start making some cool stuff with the tools provided, both in map design and game type usage.
it’s objectively wrong that I like battle royales? Didn’t know personal preferences could be objectively wrong lol. This take doesn’t make sense to me, you say it’s the least creative mode a dev could add to its game because I was able to list 3 other battle royales but how many arena shooters could I list if I wanted to? BRs may be 5 years old but arena shooters are almost two decades old. Fornite can die if it wants to, but it’s the most popular game in the world so it’s very unlikely that it will. I’m not asking for anything fortnite related anyways. I’m asking for a Halo BR
That’s a straw man. He’s not saying it wouldnt be good for him. He’s saying that more people doesnt equal better game. It just equals mainstream game. Fortnite isnt a revolutionary game. In fact all it did was sell out and copy the success strategy of PUBG. Fortnite wasnt even supposed to be a battle royale, but there were only 3 BRs that even existed at the time, and at the time it was new and fresh, so people hopped on board. And then the predation began lol…
That doesnt mean that the store cant be predatory lol. They can use manipulation tactics like FOMO vis a vis a store timer that tells you “if you dont buy this item on the next 24 hours, you’ll miss out.” Or maybe they could do something like take the cosmetic customization that had always been in the game and that fans became endeared to and then lock it completely behind a paywall. Oh wait, they already did thay, and thats why everyone is calling the system predatory. Pretending that a game cant have a predatory monetization system just because the items in its store are cosmetic is like pretending that a serial killer isnt dangerous just because you talked to him once and he “talked and dressed nice.” Youre just ignoring the facts because of cosmetics lol. Fortnites store was only cosmetic, yet it somehow siphoned obscene amounts of money from individual children who couldnt help but dump their parents credit cards on cosmetics. Gee, i wonder what caused them to have such an uncontrollable urge to buy things in that store? Perhaps it was the way in which the store, battle pass, and challenge system were set up to lay mounds of pressure on the user to empty their wallets for shiny new toys. Fortnites store isnt a revolutionary concept. Theres nothing new under the sun. It just takes advantage of psychological manipulation that easily attaches 12 year olds to it vis a vis using FOMO to scare them into continuing to play their game lest they miss out on the latest skin, or map, or battlepass, or challenges to level their battle pass. It then leverages pop culture trends against the 12 year olds that are already easily taken advantage of and drives the nail even further into the coffin of their addiction to a game that is waging constant psychological warfare on them every time they return to the main menu.
Did you read anything i said? Cuz your first sentence tells me you didnt. I said it was objectively wrong that they were new. Youre the second person to start straw manning. Please stop, because its extremely frustrating.
This right here is an absurd statement. The only thing fortnite has to offer besides a predatory cosmetic store is a BR. So asking for a BR is asking for a reskin of fortnite. I want to play Halo, not fortnite. If you want to play BR, go play a BR and stop trying to ruin this franchise by turning it into a carbon copy of every other game. At least Halo was a pioneer of arena shooters. Other games followed Halos formula, not the other way around. Why are you trying to hitch it to a bandwagon now?
I hate this argument. Although it factually correct that you can have the best game ever made that only a handful of people play, the reality is that quality is almost never lost. Population is a useful metric because if a game has like 5k players obviously it means it doesn’t appeal to to many people, whereas if it has 1 million+ over time then it means it does a decent job of pleasing its fanbase.
it basically had more impact on the industry than Halo: Combat Evolved did, to say its anything but revolutionary is just wrong. Why do you think Halo went F2P?
Also, Halo is probably never going to be as popular as Fortnite, its BR mode would never play anything like Fortnite’s, so I feel that the comparison here is kind of a stretch. Infinite BR would be a lot more simple than most I’d imagine.
Yeah but how does a BR mode impact this? Why would a BR mode make the store any worse? I mean you can argue that the current store is predatory (I think that word makes predators feel good about themselves) but a BR mode would have very little impact if any.
‘343’ is supposedly adding ‘King of the Hill’ and ‘Multi-Team’ battles soon (which I’m glad to see). As far as a ‘Battle Royale’ goes, I’m neither for nor against it. More than likely I would at least check it out if they did end up adding it to the game. More variety is good if they have the development time.
