I know halo infinite is still fresh off its release but the game is already starting to feel stale. I haven’t played a halo game since H3 so when I read the pre-release notes for Infinite I was really excited. Seeing them add weapon skins to Halo got me excited for maybe a COD multiplayer style of weapon challenges and mastery camos free to unlock that would encourage grinding every weapon in the game, the campaign being open world really excited me for ultra rare drops only achievable by doing the hardest content in the game like completing the campaign on legendary or collecting all the skulls to maybe grab the newest version of the Katana armour, but we got none of that. There is no reason to grind the campaign on any difficulty other than normal since they added nothing notable as far as endgame rewards and multiplayer is even worse. Not only is spending money in the store the best way to customize your Spartan, weapon and vehicles, it’s literally the only way. The multiplayer is fun, but it’s the same old 4v4 arena shooter model the game has used for over 15 years with nothing at all to achieve in terms of levels or customization. Which brings me to my main point. I want a Halo Battle Royale. Truthfully when I dropped into Zeta Halo of the campaign the first thing I thought was ‘my friends and I would have so much fun playing a Battle Royale on this map’. With the sandbox formula over loadouts (like you see in Warzone) a Halo battle royale would be very entry-level friendly favouring players with gun skill over those with more time sunk into leveling up “meta” weapons, and due to the high TTK a Halo BR would actually encourage us to play with our teammates and friends instead of being able to solo wipe a trio with a single clip like you see in other BRs with fast TTKs. Also multiplayer games, as fun as they can be, aren’t rewarding when it comes to wins. Unless you play ranked (which I’ve l ready given up on due to the messed up Onyx CSR system) there is nothing satisfying about winning a social game type, but winning a 20-30min battle royale game with your friends is very rewarding. When you mix the low level of win satisfaction with the fact there’s nothing to grind for in social game types it doesn’t take long for you to get burnt out from playing Infinite. All of my friends have fallen off halo already, and the few who do still play just spend their time grappling around the
open world campaign aimlessly. They’ve all moved back to PUBG, Apex and even warzone. The conclusion for them and even me is that playing 2 hours of multiplayer shooters feels like 6 hours, whereas 6 hours of playing a BR feels more like 2, especially when there’s nothing to unlock or achieve in multiplayer. All my friends and I like to play these days are Battle Royales, they’re new and they’re fun. We all agree that a Halo BR would probably be the best and most fun BR to play together as a squad. With the awesome vehicles, cool new equipment and beautiful maps it’s hard to believe that anyone would be against a Halo Battle Royale. I know that the game has a lot to focus on with the content that’s currently out, but I really hope that a BR is in the works behind the scenes for the future of this game because truthfully I’m not sure a strictly multiplayer format will be sustainable for the already shrinking population of this game.
I wasn’t for a Battle Royale in Halo, but after putting in a lot of time in Halo Infinite, I just don’t see it surviving without a Battle Royale. We have the same 6 maps, 1 ranked playlist, nothing to grind for, no reason or motivation to play the game. Its the same repetitive game over and over. And on top of it, the game feels broken. We need something exciting and fun to add to this game, and I think Battle Royale is the answer.
how is battle royal more exciting than standard muliplayer? I think they just need to fix the damn playlists and make a slayer ranked mode and be done with it. The resistance to this is unfounded and stupid.
Apparently OP decided to make their post a Battle Royale with paragraphs… noice.
Can somebody give a tl;dr?
The only reason Infinite is stale right now is because it’s a barebones launch. If 343 had at least included Forge and a Custom Games Browser, gameplay wouldn’t be this dull right now. BR isn’t going to solve this game’s problems at all. If anything, adding Battle Royale to Halo would only result in— at best— a temporary surge in player count. All Battle Royale players eventually move on from one BR game to the next, so adding BR would just be a wasted effort in the long term.
Plus, what maps could Battle Royale possibly be feasible on? BTB maps are too small for 100+ people. Sure, you could use the Campaign world… but that seems very unlikely. All you’d have is one map for Battle Royale. ONE.
Also, the servers could barely handle 12 people in BTB a month ago. The servers would never handle 10 times that number of players in a single mode.
They need to add a lot more than 1 playlist. We need at least 3 more playlists, Ranked Slayer, Ranked Doubles and Social Action Sack, 5 more maps and 3 smaller for doubles. But this Halo feels very repetitive. Never got bored of a Halo after a few games.
I’m barely playing, if they would choose to add that and that been added before Forge or Co-op arrives, definitely dropping the game.
For me I just don’t think winning a slayer game type (outside of ranked) is anywhere as exciting as being the last squad alive in a BR. The other thing about about social game types is that with skill based matchmaking you never get to just chill out for a game. You’re always matched against people at your skill level so if you aren’t sitting forward and actively sweating then you’re probably getting rolled. At least in a BR the map is big enough that if me and my friends wanna just bot out and meme around, we can drop in some secluded part of the map and avoid conflict to make the game last longer.
tldr; multiplayer is broken and boring, and I want a battle royale
I can see a BR mode being implemented. However with the way the combat loop and sandbox works, ranges being drawn in closer than the 3 previous titles, I just don’t see it working well without an insane amount of reworks.
The mode would have to be a dedicated experience, retooling a bunch of the game’s mechanics and sandbox to drag out encounters.
On top of that, the game is in no state to even consider adding this in any time soon.
In all honesty, I can absolutely see a rudimentary BR being added, but I can’t see it being anymore than what Invasion, Chess, or Firefight Versus were: nothing more than an experimental experience.
oh thanks
I think people expect them to make Halo into Fortnite, the reality though is that it would be a unique BR experience. I imagine it playing like a really simple version of most BR games. The real issue is technical like whether or not the game can handle more than 24 players at once, and things like the base XB1’s probably can’t run a Battle Royale so its technically more complicated than it would be design wise in my opinion.
Got the weekly ultimate reward on Wednesday and haven’t played since. Won’t until next Tuesday’s reset.
A battle royale would entice me though.
Or BTB being fixed
Not really,
Fornite still #1 on the microsoft most played games list. Battyle royale gamers don’t just drop games. They are some of the most consistent if they succeed.
microsoft most played games list of battle royale games
- Fortnite battle royale Ranked #1
- Call of duty Warzone battle royale #3
- Apex legends battle royale #5
- PUBG battle royale #31
Steam most played games list of battle royale games

- APEX Legends battle royale #4
Twitch.tv most watched battle royale games

- PUBG battle royale #36
Thx for that list, really interesting.
I’ve never heard of escape from tarkov
Honestly didn’t know the list existed.
Truth be told, Tarkov is more of a survival title than a BR one.
Just no. If they force this into Halo Infinite then the game may as well die since every game that has forced this has been made worse and systems become too predatory for me to care about the game but in fairness at the moment I’m already playing less of Infinite because of the current predatory system so I’m not sure how worse it could get but I guess there’s always something worse and that’s just depressing. If this becomes the main thing of modern Halo then I guess I’m done with the multiplayer and will stick to MCC instead.
You missed nearly everything else I said. 343 has no maps suitable for a Battle Royale and their servers can hardly handle 12 people. It’s not gonna happen.
they would probably have to make a special map for a BR mode just like activision had to do with Warzone. The only reason I mentioned the Zeta Halo in my post was because that’s just what came to my mind when I saw zeta halo. Imagine a BR on that map, it would be amazing. Special points to go purchase vehicles like the stores in warzone, you could get money by doing contracts on the map. All those cool covenant bases could be hot drops designed around power weapons that your squad would fight to get control of. It would be so much fun
BTB is my favourite game type as well. It also only reaffirms to me how much I would enjoy a Halo BR. The best part of BTB is the chaos of fighting with your fire squad against dozens of enemies with vehicles going crazy on the map. BR would just be a larger scale BTB in my opinion
You missed nearly everything else I said. 343 has no maps suitable for a Battle Royale
a BR map is viable via Forge though.
and their servers can hardly handle 12 people. It’s not gonna happen.
What are you even talking about? Servers aren’t the reason BTB isn’t working. Servers themselves are great. Now the real issue that I could see is that having too many playlists and too much segmentation could definitely impact MM in a negative way, but I doubt they’d make it 100 players so I don’t know how large of a problem that would realistically be.
