Unofficial Warzone Firefight Guide

Whether you’re grinding WZ Firefight for XP, or just looking to have a chill time killing AI, this guide is to give you some help in your Firefight gaming.

Warzone Firefight Boost Priority Recommendation

WZ Gambit: AI Kills - 16,800+ if in Top 2
WZ XP Legendary - 11,250
WZ Gambit: Medal Count - 11,250 if in Top 2
WZ Mission Victory - 4,500 if complete 1 Round
WZ XP Rare - 4,500
WZ XP Gambit: Assist - 4,500 if in Top 2
WZ XP Jackpot - 2,000 - 16,000 randomly
WZ XP Uncommon - 3,300+

I place the Jackpot so low because it’s so random. Firefight matches don’t go as long as many Warzone matches. And in my experience, the longer the match goes, the more Jackpots pay out even if the payout is on the lower end. Therefore, I recommend XP Jackpots for Warzone.

To take advantage of the Assist boost, I recommend driving someone around in a hog for the first few early rounds. This should give you enough assists for the max boost.

Warzone Firefight Weapon Recommendations

Plasma Pistol, Spitfire, Void’s Tear
These freeze vehicles in their tracks. Due to the plasma pistol being so important as a LV2 REQ, I tend to use the Spitfire more at LV3. However, Void’s Tear at LV4 is best for flipping Ghost bosses out of their vehicles. Just save enough for Warzone.

Suppressor, Song of Peace, Razor’s Edge
These are surprisingly good at working on Knights’ glowing discs to destroy them and set up the backsmack for an easy kill.

Plasma Caster, Scourge of Fire, White Scar
They melt Hunters and Knights quickly. Aim at their feet so they don’t reflect off of their armor.

Safeguard Sentinel Beam, Sorrow of Teash, Scale of Soirapt
Their main use is for dealing with Grunt Goblins. I’ll go into this more below.

Fuel Rod Cannon, Light of Urs, Pool of Radiance
Occasionally good at dealing with final Covenant bosses out of reach of vehicles.

Incineration Cannon, River of Light, Heartseeker
Occasionally good at dealing with final Promethean bosses out of reach of vehicles.

Spartan Laser, Endgame, Selene’s Lance
Premiere vehicle destruction at a moment’s notice. However, due to their high value, only use a LV4 Spartan Laser if you have extras to spare. Save the rest for Warzone.

Warzone Firefight Vehicle Recommendations

Scout Hogs
Good in early rounds for running over Covenant and Promethean ground forces for quick REQ boosts. Just don’t try this on Hunters or Knights. You’ll have a bad time.

Warthogs
Good just like Scout Hogs. Gunner allows for Assist medals. Great for dealing with aerial vehicles. Needle hog excels at vehicles destruction and is shielded. Rocket Hog is good at bosses and aerial vehicles. Gauss Hog surprisingly not as good but still decent at aerial vehicles.

Ghosts
Good just like Scout Hogs. Classic and Temple Ghosts are good to use without depleting WZ Ghost supply.

Wasps
Great at shooting enemies from FAR away. Not as good in different Firefight situations. Only use if you have a large stockpile.

Banshees
Not as good in Firefight due to stupid AI Auto-Aim. Best against opposing aerial vehicles. Classic and Sword Banshees are good to use without depleting WZ Banshee supply.

Wraiths
Your main boss killer. Excels at killing bosses in the Cores from almost any angle. Classic Wraith and Ultra Wraith are good to use without depleting WZ Wraith supply.

Anti-Air Wraith
Surprisingly a beast in Firefight. Fast vehicle that deals with bosses and aerial vehicles alike. Only wraith whose gunner is shielded.

Scorpion
Open area Warden Eternal slayers. Classic and Corp Tanks are good to use without depleting WZ Scorpion supply.

Mantises
Oddly not the best in Firefight due to low DPS. Also no Rare or lower Mantis. Best against aerial vehicles. If truly desired, use Classic or Corp Mantis.

How to Get the Grunt Mech Commendation

The best chances to work on this commendation are Round 4 of maps March on Stormbreak, Skirmish at Darkstar, and Temple. Each of them provide a chance at dropping two Grunt Mechs at once. Other chances are Temple Round 5, Prospect Rounds 3 & 5, Attack on Sanctum Rounds 3 & 4, and Raid on Apex 7 Round 5. There are two methods that can be utilized to complete this commendation. Both require you to get the killing shot on each Grunt Mech. You will know you get boss kill to count towards your commendation if you get both the boss takedown as well as a Grunt Kill simultaneously.

Method #1: Vehicles
I recommend using a Wraith or a Scorpion. Whittle down the Grunt Mech and when he has a sliver of health left, deliver the killshot on him.

Method #2: Mask Removal
There is a way to actually temporarily destroy his mask in order to shoot and kill the grunt inside. This can be done with many weapons such as a Laser or Binary Rifle, but I’ve found that Sentinel Beams and upgraded Brute Plasma Rifles (the Sorrow of Teash and the Scale of Soirapt) work well for low REQ cost. Focus your shots on his mask and you’ll notice it will begin to change color. Keep your shots up and eventually his mask will drop for approximately 30 seconds. Once down, you can headshot the grunt. Even when exposed, his head hides down inside the front of Mech, so you’ll have to be above and/or to the side of him to get a clear killshot.

For a quick example that shows his Mask going down and the Killshot, you can view my video.

Map Specific Tips and Tricks

Skirmish at Darkstar, Round 5 (4 Knight Luminaries & 1 Mythic Warden Eternal)
When Mythic Warden spawns, he spawns a series of Mythic Promethean Soldiers with him, two of which have deadly Rocket Turrets. They take way too long to shoot down even with heavy vehicles. But if you have a Ghost or a Banshee, you can run them over quickly. When all of them are dead, a second wave of them will spawn. Rinse and Repeat. This will make things a lot easier for your heavy vehicles to focus on the Mythic Warden.

Prospect, Round 5 (3 Ultra Elites & 3 Knight Bannerman)
Knight Bannermans are no joke. They shoot Incineration Cannons like it’s an Marine’s AR. Even with heavy vehicles you’ll have to play some peek-a-boo around corners to make sure you live long enough to take them down.

Escape from A.R.C., Round 1 (Protect the Armory)
This is a great round on this map that comes up a lot to take advantage of Gambit: Medal Count and Gambit: Assist boosts. Go into the armory, pick up a stray Storm Rifle and go nuts on the elites. You’ll get lots of kills and assists.

Escape from A.R.C., Round 3 (Tankmaster Rok)
He spawns near the home base opposite where you start the game. Take a Gungoose, Warthog, or a Ghost into the roadway of that home base closest to the water, looking out. You should see the backside of Rok’s Wraith. If you’re back far enough, he should just stare at you as you shoot him to death.

Escape from A.R.C., Round 4 (Protect the Cores)
This can be one of the most painful rounds, especially in higher difficulties. Not only are the enemies swarming, but the invincible Phantoms have invincible Elite turrets that shred vehicles. What I’ve discovered works best is a ghost swarm with one or two air vehicles. You can run over the swarms and deal with Hunters, then hide behind cover as the Phantoms come and go.

March on Stormbreak, Round 5
It will always finish in one of the two Cores, so a Wraith is a safe bet to end on. However, the Core will get clogged quickly with 8 Wraiths, so not everyone needs one.

Temple, Round 3
This round has two quick boss kills. If the boss is two Recon Pilots, you can lift over to them and backsmack them as they spawn before they can enter their Phaetons. If the boss is two Soldier Bandits, you can repeatedly Void’s Tear them in the bottom of the Temple while your teammates unload their arsenal on them.

Miscellaneous Tips and Tricks

  • Bosses will sometimes hide the back of a Core where heavy vehicles can’t hit it. If you happen to be on foot when this happens, don’t be a hero and try to kill a Mythic Warden Eternal with your Loadouts. It ain’t gonna happen. Instead, try to use your weapon fire and position to draw the boss out of hiding so the heavy vehicles can do their job. Even though you do compete with each other for points, this is still a team game. You win as a team, and you lose as a team.
  • Rounds involving protecting Cores or Armories can be amazing opportunities to run over several groups of spawning enemies.
  • Ghost bosses hate Void’s Tears. Same with Phaeton bosses. If they flip, their vehicle will blow up and they’ll be stuck on foot.
  • When in doubt on what REQ to pull, generally, Covenant works best vs. Covenant; Promethean works best vs. Prometheans.
  • When low on REQ level or REQs to pull, scavenger from larger enemies. Lightrifles, Plasma Casters, Fuel Rods, and Incineration Cannons off of other bosses can be a big help.
  • The Random Weapon and Random Vehicle REQs can surprise you at times. Feel free to play around with them and enjoy the “free” REQs.

I hope this helps all of you in your Warzone Firefight Gaming. I’ll add more as I think of it.

For weapons, you should add the plasma pistol and Spartan laser, and their variants, because they’re good against vehicle bosses. Also I disagree that Banshees are not as good. While they may not have as much firepower as other vehicles since they can’t hover, they make for excellent splattering rams. If you see a large pile of Elites or Soldiers, or any splatterable late-game boss, you’ll want to be in a Banshee. Don’t make the mistake of only relying on their guns (however, if you do, be sure to pull down on the control stick in order to fly slower).

They also get points for being able to move you to the objective quickly after spawning, unlike slower vehicles such as Scorpions, which can be very important for certain rounds since you don’t get to choose where you spawn. Since I realized these things about Banshees, they’re one of my favorite vehicles to use in firefight. Just be sure to get to cover when its shields are down, and you’ll be fine.

Also, I find it funny that you didn’t list Phaetons. It’s like they’re not even worth thinking about because they’re so scarce in req packs :pouting_cat:

You should add something about not spawn killing enemies on temple and prospect as it causes the enemies to stop spawning meaning you fail rounds like kill grunts or kill soldiers.
Also the round 5 on prospect is 3 soldier enforcers with the knights, not elite ultras

Weapons should be for Warzone Proper. Vehicles are for WZ Firefight. Stockpile them. From Round one, You oughtta be in a scout hog. Being on foot is dangerous and foolish. Especially in the later rounds. I’ve even seen heroic FF fail because folks didn’t spawn enough vehicles to bring the pain final round. A.I.'s are too accurate & dangerous by final round to be out in the open, exposed in any way.

I made a couple videos (These are from Regular WZ but they work in Firefight) of Grunt Jockey Killing Via the canopy removal method

6 Min Grunt Jockey
10 Minute Grunt Jockey
Mythic Boss

On the mythic boss, The Sentinel beam is pretty much used as a constant fast damage source to keep the canopy shields from recharging. I had a match where I had 2 people with Sentinel beams and me with the laser - that Canopy dropped after 4 shots.

A very simple method to win, and come MVP in Firefight, is to pack a load of Ghost Ultras and Tanks. Go straight in 1st round working on headshotting the minor enemies ‘crawlers, grunt and jackals’ don’t be too cocky so as to not die first round. You’ll get the use the ultra close to the minute of the second round, spam the crap out of that explosive gun, stay back and dodge fire from knights and whatnot. Don’t forget to run over elites, soldiers and anything below that class, splatter kills are a great tool for taking out elite and soldier bosses. As soon as you have enough points for a tank, abandon the ghost or let another teammate have it and get in that tank, tank beats everything.

A general rule is that for every ghost you have, you should have 2 more tanks. But I can manage with 1 ghost and 1 tank per round.

This is my best bonafide way to come top 100% of the time. As well as carrying the team to a swift victory averaging about 15mins in per game.

Yes, this, times a thousand! I wish more people would realize this. I completely understand wanting to use cool fun weapons, but unfortunately, 99% of the time, it’s a bad choice in Warzone Firefight.

Nice list.

Here’s my main advice: If you can’t use vehicles mainly in the last rounds because you don’t have them or don’t want to use them, then play something else, thanks. You’re only hurting your team if you don’t use them.

I’ll just mention a few things for more newer people to Firefight which might help.

1) Early round Hunters: Focus on one at a time instead of everyone killing anyone they want. It gets the round done faster and you won’t risk time running out. I seriously almost lost the game in round 1 with around 10 seconds left on Sanctum because half my team were shooting different Hunters.

2) Round 2 Knight/Ghost/Hunter bosses: A good weapon against them is the splinter turret. Keep your distance and hone in your aim and it will either kill them or take almost all of their health away before your shots run out. It’s good for most rounds, but it’s a strong weapon for the early rounds.

3) Escape from ARC round 3 Tankmaster Rok: Take a Ghost and boost to the home base next to Rok which should skip past all the enemies and Banshees. Position yourself so you’re far enough in the base to not get shot at, but you have a clear angle of Rok’s Wraith and then shoot him until he blows up. If done correctly, he should just stare at you if no one else is getting his attention. Even if others are, you should still see his back half to aim at.

I’ve had plenty of success with being on foot in Heroic at least.

Ah, I finally got back to this.

I added the Plasma pistols and Lasers. I only mentioned Banshees as bad in Firefight because AIs don’t ever miss with their bullets. They can be quite valuable if you know how to use them. And I have used a Phaeton before in a “sweaty” Firefight match. It just doesn’t happen that often.

Added ARC Round 3. Different vehicles work for that one, too.
