Unlocking cosmetics should tell me what armor core they are for

Not much more to it. When I level up I don’t know which core the item I just got is for. It’s kind of annoying trying to figure out which one in the customization tab. Maybe I’m a fool and does tell me somewhere but if that’s the case I feel like it’s not as obvious as it should be.

Edit: I appreciate everyone’s opinion’s on core restriction/crosscore customization but maybe my post is being misunderstood. I was simply suggesting that (with the current setup) 343i make a minor change to the way the ui displays items on screen when you unlock them.

It’s right there in the battle Pass. After the Name.

I know it’s in the BP. I’m sayin when you lvl up it shows ur unlocks. Is it visible there?

I disagree. I think cosmetics shouldn’t be core locked except in rare circumstances. In which case there’d be no need to say what core it worked for.

Oh sure, I’m not really talking about whether or not they should be locked to cores. All I’m saying is that at the moment they are, so it would be nice if it told me which core the item is for while i’m looking at the new unlock.

I agree. Until they change to crosscore it’s not a bad idea. Could just put the core name below the item name. Shouldn’t be too hard.

Don’t know if I agree with u on crosscore, I like the idea of cores but if stuff is crosscore there’s not much point in multiple cores at all (although I know it’s just mostly an excuse to have more mtx)

Not making things crosscore limits player customization. I’d honestly be fine with the limits if they were a little more lenient. Those FJ kneepads that are literally built into the MK V B boots, yeah, keep them single core if you like. But things like combat knives or visor colors, nah. They should be on all cores.

Yeah I agree, certain things should be open to all cores cause it just makes sense

I have a better idea remove all the armor cores and link everything together. Let us customize ANY coating, ANY armor, ANY color, ANY emblem, ANY weapon the way we want exactly. Infinites customization is SOOO anti Infinite its negative.

Highly doubt they’re gonna do that

It’s easy to see, just check which core is being used for the item? It shows the body as well, so you can easily see if it’s a MkV or MkVII body.

Sure but it’s not as good as it could be. Just take MCC for example. When you go to unlock stuff there’s an icon telling which game it’s for. Small changes like this would greatly improve the ux/ui over time.

They really need to look at unlocking the core restrictions, period. The fact we see so many bots rocking cross core gear seems to prove (not a dev so can’t say for sure) that the restrictions put on the player are arbitrary.

At the bare minimum, coatings and visors not being cross-core compatible feels like a major way to double-dip on monetization by making players chase/buy multiple similar items if they want similar color palletes on their different cores, based on said restrictions. Armor pieces seems a bit more complicated, admittedly, but clearly they can, somehow be applied cross-core, as seen on the 343 bots. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody that players would feel badly about having core restrictions when bots don’t.

I liked most of Jerry Hook’s comments pertaining to this on the community stream- he was very right IMO when he said that Infinite doesn’t need to adhere to industry monetization trends to succeed, and in fact, that it can leverage giving players more for their money as a competitive edge against other F2P games. A great place to start towards those ends would be to do away with as many of these core restrictions as possible, ASAP.

He was also clearly right when he said that most returning players weren’t going to necessarily respond well to the F2P model. To those of us who are used to recieving dozens of armor sets which can be unlocked through gameplay at no additional cost and a wide color customization gamut which can be mixed and matched in any combination the player wants for retail $60 MSRP, these store prices feel like an absolute ripoff. Doing away with the core restrictions would at least provide more value and incentive for players to pick up store items, though, as it would allow them to use them in more ways.

no all unlocks should be for all cores

That sounds great, obviously. And if it really is as simple as flipping a switch and making that happen, that’d be incredible.

But as quick as so many are to ascribe 343i’s entire motive for core locking to greed, there may be some technical restrictions that prevent full and complete cross core customization from being possible. I won’t defend that, and in fact it would strike me as a bad design decision, but that’s all irrelevant to whether or not it’s the case.

It’s important to try to be realistic about the customization, progression, and monetization systems present here. I don’t like that Halo went F2P, just like a ton of other fans, but it did- because that’s the direction the entire industry is moving in. Given that, some degree of MTX annoyance is just an absolute given, unfortunately.

While I agree that unlocking every customization component for any core is the best possible outcome, I would rather have some unlocked elements than none- and coatings and visors seem like a good place to start.

It’s a shame that 343i hasn’t put together a more comprehensive response/explanation for why the system is designed how it is (something similar in depth to the Flight feedback breakdowns here on waypoint would be awesome for this) , and what realistically we as fans can expect to change about it, but they haven’t.

There are no technical elements limiting crosscore. You can literally see what any item looks like on any core in Waypoint using the glitch. Some items clip, but that happens with some items as is, like the swords from the store on Yoroi. Those clip with the armor they were designed for. Also, bots can do it with seemingly no restrictions.

If you want to try the glitch for yourself, open up waypoint. Go to customize. Modify a core you aren’t wearing. Equip any item. Then hit the body tab at the top. Boom! The item you just tried to equip is now on the core you’re actually wearing, not the one you modified.

the bots do it all the time its already in the game.
